this is starting to do my head in, ever time I see new pics I see the ship mine looks wrong. I've spent the whole evening rebuilding the secondary hull from scratch. nither looks canon but I can do no more so I will let people decide.

simple top or bottom will do as I can not alter them anymore with out screwing them up. I wish I know how wiley and the rest model souch smooth models so quickly.

Really ready to pack this in as it driving me nuts

For my models, build the complex sections in pieces.  For the Trek XI Enterprise, the neck is 3 pieces, the engineering hull is also 3 pieces (front, upper, lower).  Chamfered boxes are good shapes for sharp edges like the neck section.

thanks Wiley, I've dug out my 3D Max bible and see how to remove sections without leaving see through holes in the hull.

And you shall my friend.

Right started the secondary hull again. I'm more happier with the way this one has started.

Beautiful! I recommend getting rid of the orange bussards. I know you want to keep it closer to TOS and the warp engines need those funny blue bits but apart from that, she looks great! Argh! Wanna have now! Me likey the JJPrise alot.

You could select the outer edges and a couple further in (only the solid lines, not the dotted) and chamfer.

It's not being dumb, its all a learning process ;)

Step 1. Make a vaguly Enterprise shaped cylinder (I started to, then realised i was too lazy to do it properly :P)

Step 2. Select the edges on the outer rim. As you can (hopefully) see, only the vertical edges have been selected. The diagonal ones are dotted, but still selectable.

Step 3. Chamfer them to roughly equal sized faces

Step 4. Select all the verts at the top of the triangluar faces you just created

Step 5. Move those up to the verts on the next row and weld

Does that clear it up, or have I just made you more confused?

Nope very clear thanks. Unfortunatly I built the saucer in 3 sections and when I tried this to the rim section it just screw the textures. I live and learn for the next ship.

In the mean time I'm ready to turn her over to Dalekanium2. I've taken her as far as I can.

With all of the spotlights, it looks like that Enterprise came from ST:1.  Looks nice.
