I will only distribute HIGH textures with automatic downscaling when you select initial graphics settings, whenever any ship will be loaded first time the textures would be downscaled if you choose, and DDS files are generated from NIF and TGAs which are then loaded next time, altrough this can take up to a whole second, the next time the ship loads practically instantly.

Ofcourse i can also make it use no compression, but then you better have some seriously powerful graphics card if you want to load all ships into one scene at once :)

If i compress all textures i have ingame right now the textures are less than 300MB for around 100 most popular ships. i can literally create a planetwide "ship blockade" made of all ships and not explode the graphics drivers.

The only thing is, that you need to have a DXT capable graphic cards, such as nvidia 6xxx series and something like R9800 or better for this to work (anything manufactured during and after 2004) - otherwise you're pretty much out of luck with most of ships in current bridge commander engine already..

A phaser!

Some people said it looks like a water cannon.. if it looks like that to you, then pretend that it can corrode other ships :P
