Farshot... :D

Aeries it's nice to see your Futurama face I must say!
Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
 Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

stop it, this is an old mod god that's popping in.

what made you think it died?  unlike everyone thinks, not everyone has jumped ship to Excalubur!  besides, it's gonna take a damn long time before the Engine gets written, and that's the important part.

besides, some of us want to learn enough to be worthy of inclusion in the latter, even if it's something small.

dont count on that ;)
*alot* of progress is being made in a rapid pace behind the scenes...
but thats all that needs to be said on that matter...

some of us want to learn enough to be worthy of inclusion in the latter, even if it's something small.
once it is released it will be specifically designed to be very friendly for people to mod...  much much easier than BC is, thats for sure...

it's not the modding capability, it's the possibility that it's rigged for modern gaming PC's  and that'd screw some of us out of it.

you dont know that...  it is still being constructed - there very well might be an option for the engine and such to be scaled down for people with non-state-of-the-art systems...  one of the points of the project is for virtually anyone to be able to enjoy it and to try not to "screw" anyone out of it because of their specs...  will it run on a 10 year old machine with a 1ghz processor, 128mb ram and integrated gfx card?  im sure it would, with a bit of lag tho lol  but who actually has that anyway?
how closely have you been following the project?

anyway, here is a bit from the FAQ as it stands now and is always changing as time goes on and more progress is made - and to be honest any further questions or concerns about Excalibur really should be discussed on their forums...

Quote
Software/Hardware Requirements

Q. What Operating System will Excalibur run on?
A. So far, we are only building for Microsoft Windows (XP/Vista/7). (Emulators may work but there are no gaurantees and will not be supported)

Q. Do I need an existing game to use Excalibur?
A. No, Excalibur is a completely self-contained game using the NanoFX Evolved game engine. It is not a mod.

Q. What Processor and Memory will I need to play Excalibur?
A. This has yet to be determined; we will have a better idea of these requirements closer to release time.
You should have at least the minimum hardware requirements for your OS as a starting point.

Q. What Video Card (Including versions of Direct X, Shader Model etc) will I need to play Excalibur?
A. This has yet to be determined; we will have a better idea of these requirements closer to release time.
Bleeding edge hardware is not an anticipated requirement, although the game will take advantage of Graphics hardware as much as possible.

Q. What tools will I need to mod Excalibur?
A. Specifics are unknown at this time; however the Engine uses the .Net framework and we also intend to produce all the relevant toolsets and editors for general community modding such as Hard Point Editor, Mission Editor etc.

I would guess Excalibur will be even more old-PC friendly. BC is old and lets face it, the engine isn't state of art as well as it's not too stable. From what I could observe in alpha viewers of NFX_GE I can tell I was able to load about the same ammount of stuff into one scene with keeping good FPS rate as I could in BC ;)
