Redress Of the Month Contest (ROM AUGUST 09)
« on: May 02, 2009, 06:11:01 PM »
Note: Even if you have never thought about Bridge Texturing, I would like to encourage everyone to at least try this. It's fun, builds skills, and contributes to the community! Whether you are an experienced BC modder or someone who's never even tried before, please give this a shot!

The world of BC Bridge Modding is rather slow at the moment, and while a select few are making textures, some lack the confidence to release their work to the public.

What I am proposing is a series of contests/challenges of which we the modders will choose the winner!. I will give a bridge set that is freely available on BCFiles and participants will have one month to do whatever they want with that bridge. You may redress it to represent any ship, race, or design that you so choose.

__________________________________________________________________

This month's contest is simple: design an alien bridge. No Federation entries will be allowed for this month! Klingon, Cardassian, Romulan, Borg, Breen, Rigellian, Ferengi...whatever you want! Any bridge model may be used as a base set for this contest.

What you will need:
-A program that can view models and textures (such as the Model Properties Editor)
-A graphics program such as Photoshop, Paintshop, Paint.Net, or the GIMP
-Time and Dedication
-Useful items include: TrekCore website with lots of reference material

Participants do NOT have to get the bridge working ingame if they can provide screenshots with the Model Properties Editor. I will assist anyone who wants to get their bridge ingame.

At the end of the month, we will have everyone submit screenshots of their final product (projects near completion will also be accepted) and they will be posted in a manner similar to the Modder of the Month contest and a general poll will be established to select the most popular work. Regardless of who wins or not, we will do our best to make sure all projects get released if that is what you want. So essentially, everyone wins! :)

Good luck everyone!

WIP shots are very much welcome, but please keep them inside this thread. Also, if you are going to comment or offer advice on someone's WIP, do it with dignity and respect.

And if there was any question, all WIPS, comments, or other posts relating to the contest you may post them in the sticky.

Rules of the Contest:

1) You may not use any other modder's work in your submission. Everything must be 100% your own.
2) You must replace all non-lightmap textures from the original bridge with your own. You may adjust lightmaps if you wish, or keep them at your liesure.
3) Do not trash on anyone's work in this thread. If you have criticism, make it as positive and constructive as possible. While this is a competition, we want everyone to have the best chances of winning.

Allright, the contest is back underway!

I would ask that anyone posting in this thread go out of their way to obey both the rules of the contest and the forum rules. A reminder to never bash anyone else's work. If you see a problem with it, phrase your crtique in the most positive manner possible!

sounds like fun, although I suggest that this should get a child board, rather than one thread.  it'll make it easier to sort through, although that's up to the mods

WIP reports should not be in this thread.
If there is sufficient need for it (this is not predicted need), then we will consider a subforum.
I still can't read peoples minds, nor can I read peoples computers, even worse, I can't combine the two to read what is going wrong with your BC install...

How should WIP reports be handled, then?

Their own threads (what else?) I mean, I don't think it's very good idea to have posts for every stage of the WIP in this thread.

What about this, participants start a WIP thread, with the month/contest tag in their title and put a link in a post here with a description of the base model and their intention.
Then on the last day of the month, or the day after they post their beauty shots and a poll is added for those that add screenshots.
The poll is run for a week and the winner is the winner.

Just to get an idea of how many people are participating, I'd like everyone working on a bridge to make a WIP thread. At the very least state your intentions for the Miranda bridge.

Good luck everyone!

I intended to just muck about for now. I really lack the skills to do anything of note, but if I do make anything note-worthy, I'll be sure to make a thread about it.

After two months, I think it's time to call it a wrap. I will give you guys until this upcoming Sunday to finish what you have, and then a thread will be started for polling. I haven't prepared anything this round as time has been short for me, so I will compile all of the bridges done so far.

Please PM me a few screenshots of your bridge (the screenshots MUST be ingame or from the Model Properties Editor. Renders will not be allowed), a description of the bridge, and a progress report in a percentage from 0-100% of completed status. On Sunday night I will post these all in one post and ask a moderator to start a poll for them.

True, but our May contest is now in July :P.

Like it was stated in the beginning, we don't need to have fully completed bridges ready to be elligible for the contest. It would be hoped that they would release their works eventually, but WIPs are completely and totally acceptable for the contest.

Also, I will make sure in the voting thread to ask for a vote of what people would like the July/August contest (likely August) to have as a base model.

Mine is almost done, just need to put some damage readouts on active LCARS, make displays animated and get action stations (yellow alert), speakers horn (viewscreen on/off), dradis contact (warning sound - optional) ambient loop sounds for it, already have master/critical hull (posing as red alert) from Jedi Knight 2 - Artus mines level (second mission) both mine warning klaxon and BSG hull breach/critical alert sounds are identical ;)

in percentages I think my redress can be easily put into following :
TEXTURES - 90%
SOUNDS - 25%
SCRIPTS/ CUSTOM LOADING - 40% (no custom loading screen ATM, foulty scripts - done in rush)

OVERALL (i'm not too good in maths so i'll give you rounded count) - 80%
