Black Screen
« on: May 13, 2009, 05:58:00 PM »
Of Death.  When I click to play Bridge Commander it just loads up a black screen with a yellow Starfleet cursor.  I tried opening the game in TestMode using the TestMode.bat way but when I hit ` and enter is does nothing.

You are starting through the .bat file, right?

Are you on a not XP (or earlier) windows (for example Vista)? If so, then please uninstall the game, and install it to something like C:\Games\ instead of C:\Program Files\.
I still can't read peoples minds, nor can I read peoples computers, even worse, I can't combine the two to read what is going wrong with your BC install...

I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium.  It came with the computer.  I'll uninstall it and reinstall now like you said to see what happens.

I installed the game to C:\Games\ and it seems to work now.  I assume it's just one more thing about Vista that's irritating? lol

Nah, not really, it's more of a case of BC not understanding what Vista is doing because of security.

Ah yeah, that makes sense.  Thanks for your help.  I've been waiting a long time to finally play this game and Mod it.

Just make sure when you are installing mods to manually change the directory they install to. Plagued me to death when I first started playing BC on Vista :P.

Well I have Vista Home Premium, and BC worked fine in C:/Program Files/Activision...

I only uninstalled it because the game itself wouldn't let me change the menu system...
Did you know I'm on Twitter?

Sometimes it can work, like when you are use Vista unsafely (when logging in as administrator or when UAT is disabled). Then it can work correctly in Vista.
