display driver crashing @ random
« on: August 11, 2009, 07:38:03 PM »
is there anything i can do to prevent my display driver from randomly crashing?
it does it at random and its quite annoying...

ill be in the middle of a game and itll just freeze, go to black, and a windows dialouge will pop up saying:
"the vtp display driver has stopped responding, please save your work and reboot the system to restore full visual...." blah blah blah.

its annoying.. and im running bc at an already embarrassing low a$$ setting....

heres the tech specs for my laptop:
Windows XP SP2 Home Edition 2002 version
Intel Celeron M Processor 1.40GHz
VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP
192 MB Ram.... that sounds odd....
4096 MB virtual mem (which is the MAX allowed setting on my 111 gig HD)

if anyone could give me an answer (other than simply buying a new rig.... I KNOW THAT ALREADY) id greatly appreciate it.

I came, i saw, i added a Sig.
Later gents, i have Youtube to take over.

I have only ever had that when I run two displays, and I think that's a psu issue on my part. (Not enough power.)

not enought power as in electrical? or computing?

i just checked, the dual display isnt even enabled.
its happened to me 3 times today, and its not like i was using that many ships.
usually when its a memory problem, itll simply just crash to desktop and not do what i stated above.
gets frustrating...... the only warning i have when it goes to do it is this:

see the weird distortions?
sometimes i dont even see that as a warning, just a 30sec. freeze than CRASH.
next time it does it, ill copy the error report and post it, maybe the code wizards can decipher it and see the problem

EDIT: the above pic was NOT taken from todays events

I meant electrical, but it all does stem from a gfx card issue. When my gfx card does not get enough power, it crashes, just like yours does when too much demand is placed on it. The glitch in your picture is caused by an over taxation of your gfx card.
