What's better than a small cheap quick and dirty science ship? a small cheap quick and dirty science ship that can also act as a freighter built for carrying outsize loads and do other funky stuff too!
That exactly the purpose of the Ptolemy Class!  :P

It's called having a "secondary trade" buddy :)
I'm a storeman and I can drive big trucks too but we have specialized drivers as well.
I miss :bigdance:

First of all, thanks for all the constructive comments.  Now, I shortned the secondary hull and gave it a more interesting shape closer to the TMP oberth.  I also added a cargo bay doors in the rear.  also scaled down the sauser a bit.

Also, the red stripe looks like its being cut off from the bottom of the pylon, I think its a very good idea and so far nicely executed.

**modify**

Instead of the red stripe being hidden behind the pylon, why not add the red stripe up the inside? it would match the red areas on the rest of the ship.

Keep the deflector dish spherical.

The hull texture on the side of the "box" behind the saucer looks horribly warped.

That is because it was horribly warped.  Thanks for pointing that out, fixed now.

downloaded and tested.

the textures are perfectly fine.  getting used to that cube underneath the saucerette will take some doing.  the ship is on par with other OS ships, and may be a wee bit tougher.  the torp tubes may be too low on hit points.  your blinkers are using the sheild texture rather than NanoFX's blinker, is that deliberate?  nice weapons coverage and spread.  Phasers are coming out soundless, but that may be my particular build (i'm having problems, lately).  best looking OS phasers I've seen in a while.
