transparent textures
« on: March 31, 2010, 10:32:28 PM »
looking for advice :)  Have transparent LCAR texture in max and when rendering, but ingame more solid.  Any advice on how to get right effect?   Method used is reducing opacity in material editor, but maybe wrong?

in game you'll need an alpha channel to create transparancies, there are tutorials on the forums that explain how to do that.

Thanks  :)  Have transparent ingame, but solid parts are black instead of RGB.   Must have one of the settings in material editor wrong  :(

Settings I used for getting transparencies on ships in Max 3:

Diffuse Texture: Mono Channel Output, RGB Intensity; RGB Channel Output, RGB; Alpha Source, Image Alpha; Premultiplied Alpha, no

Opacity Texture: Mono Channel Output, Alpha; RGB Channel Output, Alpha as Gray; Alpha Source, Image Alpha; Premultiplied Alpha, yes

Thanks, Kirk  :)  Those are slightly different to my settings so I'll give them a go. Hope works...

Sort of works  :)  Had to add a self-illum as well as diffuse and opacity.  But thanks for help...
