Actually, as good as Lint's Defiant is... I think that LC's is better.

Lint's is slightly more detailed, but has some noticible mesh errors on the underside.

LC's is pretty precise.

BTW, great work on yours dude.  Looking real nice!

If i'm not entirely mistaken, "Lints" Defiant is originally a CGI mesh which was scaled down considerably, while still being grossly overdone in polygon count. Which would make LCs Defiant the best BC mesh to date (possibly to be replaced by FarShot's Defiant upon completion) :P

Ventral detailing done, brought it up to 11.5k polies.  I will also be making the Chaffee-type (apocryphally the Type-10) and the Type-18 shuttlepod as auxiliary craft.

Ooo, I've been hoping for the Chaffee for a while!

She looks pretty darn good!

Amazing stuff sir,  Thanks for the link.  I will be following it.
Frankly  this is a dream come true for me.

And...As you see Tobias Richter create his (which he does very rapidly) it'll be a bit of a contest to see who gets it more precise.  So far it's you right now and it's not even a full CGI version...kudos Farshot.  I wish I had your skill.

Farshot can you post all 5 orthos of your Defiant model?
I maybe able to see where I have gone wrong with my plans.

Meh, now that you showed him your analysis, he'll take the lead with his next update. :P  But all in all, even though I've spotted a couple things that I might change, I'm very happy with how it's come out.  I've looked at the NIFs of the other Defiants released for both Bridge Commander and in the general CGI community and this is most accurate of all of them, though of course I lose some points for the low polycount.

No idea what that ship is, but I'm assuming it's your custom registry/paint scheme Defiant?  I can whip something up if you want.

I'll see what I can do.

In the meantime, I've made an analysis of possible deckage of the Defiant.  Opinions?

Middle is probably most accurate. According to Memory Alpha, there are 4 definite decks on the Defiant, as well as a few references to a possible 5th Deck. This MSD appears to be close to your middle image.

Design Intent implies and some what demands that Defiant's Deck size be limited and isolated by the broadest and tallest single span of the model.  I'll take these photos and find that option.

I've centered deck 4 as the WIDEST and TALLEST single span on the ship to make the most effective use of space of the model.

1. Tallest and Widest single span on the ship.
2. Centers the Deflector module on Deck 3 for single level access to the ship allowing for coupling mechanism above and bellow as well for the umbillical thickness
3. Matches the turbolift schematic of 6 decks
4. Gives Defiant an appropriately size Reactor

When I design the Defiant's interior these are factors that would be excluded from all of the other options of Deck Arangement with defiant at 120 meters.  The two Drawings represent a Deck size of 3.5 and 2.7 respectively.

I'm inclined to give Defiant a deck height between 2.6 and 3 meters actually, so I'm thinking a 170 meter Defiant with six decks would be perfect.  The interior ceiling height of corridors was somewhere between 2 and 2.5 meters, and Jefferies tubes had hatches at deck level.

The MSD for the defiant on Drexfiles shows 4 decks.

I personally like the 200 meter Defiant because it fits the scale of DS9 better. (NOT REALLY the station scale was the single biggest blunder in sizing of the show)  But I'm partial to a larger Defiant some similar in size to the Miranda.

But anything 170 or over is definitely adequate to fit between Fan perspective and any attempt at realism.
This is probably why the Tech manual went for the 170 meter version.

BAZ1701...

The MSD shows the landing gear (which Defiant doesn't have) OUTSIDE THE HULL.  There are about 4 or five other annomolies in the arrangement that forced me to throw it all out the airlock long ago.

-It shows the scale of the reactor to be the same width as the warp core. You can't fit 6 to eight people in that.
-shuttle is sitting in the nacelles or outside the ship
-landing gear in the nacelles or outside the ship
-aft tubes (who knows where they are) aren't down there
-escape pods in the middle of the ship
-shuttle are the wrong size
-no room for shuttle deck nor will the opening in the bottom (who knows where opening comes from) be large enough for BMW size shuttle craft like Chaffe.

Ultimately that MSD is just a pretty picture.
In drafting we use not to scale drawing all the time but it's hard to justify getting these things wrong on a MASTER system display

The MSD was drawn up for a 120 meter Defiant while the Deep Space Nine Tech Manual states Defiant as being 170 meters.  Doug Drexler made the MSD and worked on the DS9TM.  Basically, one of the two is wrong.  One of the CGI artists also said that he scaled the Defiant for 170 meters.  I'm pretty set on that number.

Also, if you consider the MSD as being canon because it is a display graphic, well there is a turbolift graphic stating it has six decks.  Yet more conflict.

Well the amount of decks to a ship varies with the weather. The Ent-A at oone point in ST V had over 50 decks and the Ent-E has changed from film to film.
Whatever knocks us back, can only make us stronger.

heh I remember this whole debate on size and decks in saquist's thread. I even think I suggested 6 decks first LOL. I'll have to look through it again.
Though I'd be careful and try to match the decks with the windows on the interior of the ship.
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.
