Neb...You're FIRED! :P  :funny
Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return, to obtain, something of equal value must be lost.  That is alchemy's first law of equivalent exchange.  In those days we really believed that to be the world's one and only truth~Alphonse Elric

I altered the mapping to make better use of space.  As a result, the textures are even crisper.  And if anyone is interested...

15.5k polygons, mapped onto one 2048x2048 with an additional id map for registry swapping.

Farshot's model isn't absolutely perfect but that maybe my fault.

There is a slight variance.
The damage Defiant is an ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) laser interpretation of the real model.  They still got some things wrong.  Nonetheless I used that specific top view to create the Precise Defiant and that is why I wanted to go back to the original model.  HOWEVER...the variance isn't relevant.  In terms of the 4' Foot Defiant model you may be talking less than a quarter of an inch.  This drew my eye on his model as well  BUT it also drew my  attention on the countless hours I've looked at the real model and there is a significant and noticeable gap between the body and the deflector.  I never would have thought the gap was so noticeable but we almost never get this good of look at Defiant on screen and when we did there was perspective involved...we couldn't necessarily see "space" like looking at a cliff from the side where you see more wall than gap.

Farshot's model is for BC.  Don't expect perfection because Defiant is far to complicated and organic a model to show in any real precision in game.  Getting this close as Farshot has is a true testament to his design ability.  He even got some things right that I got wrong.  (such as the lower circular structure for the tractor/shuttle bay)  Seeing Farshot's model has been a huge help.

Shh, I'm trying to win an argument here. :P

Seriously though, thanks so much Saquist for pouring over the Defiant.  The only reason I can do her justice is because I'm standing on the shoulders of giants. ;)

Some more texturing done.  Also decided modeling in those gray blocks was worth sacrificing the poly count.

To this day I can still find Lint's Defiant on the web besides here.   Farshot this model will certainly put you on the map.

That's because the mesh wasn't lints...

Farshot, have you thought about using the fake deferred lighting for this? Engines will look great :)

That's unfortunate because it's constantly credited to him

To clear up some mud, I read somewhere, maybe ST:Magazine, that the deflector used variable geometry. I hate quick fix answers, but this one is reasonable since the unsolved mystery of the deflector position seen only on the season 4+ credits is seen immediately after clearing the moorings; that could represent the stationary position. Thus, if your angle/spacing looks good (and it does), you can shut up the purists :). Now the season 6+ deflector which looks dinky, maybe a refit? Spare parts? Or just bad CGI because ERTL made a terrible styrene mock up... which doesn't need to be duplicated again.

I didn't see a phaser strip added, but you don't necessarily need one; they could have just as easily used a ball pivoting bank.

Yeah, the CG model in DS9 was horrible.

The first version of Star Trek Online Defiant I think was based on the CG model, the deflector looked nearly the same
Here is a screen for those who have not seen the first STO defiant

As long as he doesn't use the oversized nose used in a lot of CG shots of the Defiant.

I'm very slow at texturing.  But I also happen to be somewhat of a perfectionist.
