MeteorCreations Presents: U.S.S. Sentinel Version 4.0
« on: August 18, 2010, 02:59:02 AM »
After being released In 2005, U.S.S. Sentinel because a popular mod to many, people were finally able to pilot their favorite ship from Star Trek Invasion. But here we are 5 years later and that mod Is really starting to show Its age, with only simple black hull painting and crummy registries. I did that ship when I first started out In the modding community and I have come so far since then, but one day I got the idea from a friend that I should redo the mod and I was like " Oh ill get around to It" and brushed off the idea. Than I sat there looking at the ship and I thought to myself " What the hell was I thinking when I released this? I can do so much better than this now so why don't I?" and so the quest began but I decided that if I was going to do It, I was going to do It right...

With the help of Wiley Coyote the 4.0 will feature the fabled nacelle modifications that made the Sentinel unique, but not with a simple texture edit mind you, fully modeled nacelle housings. As well as the additional smaller Impulse engines that were mounted just above the current engines. I am on the fence about doing a Sentinel texture scheme and I am debating about using the JLS textures, as a base as opposed to using the CG Ultra Res textures.

Here are some Concepts that I put together using Photoshop, They look done but this Is far from It, remember this Is just a photo edit, but a pretty good one lol.

Update:
I have also added an Image of the original Sentinel from Star Trek Invasion, and an Image of the 3.1 that was released back in 05.

Big difference huh ?

If there's some way to replicate the (Albeit possibly accidental) chunkiness of those nacelles, I think you'd really have something dude. Something that's been missing in Trek for a long time are engines that look like they were built to push an immense ship through space. Either way, the stacked impulse looks pretty cool. No idea how I have never seen this (Though I am rather lazy with my searching).

...Probably not, but the number I get(379.6m) could be considered ?original intent,? a term that I think I will be using from now on, and ?canon? be damned.

That Is something that I do not want to do, that in-game model Is completely out of proportion. The Sentinel Is just like like every other sovereign, except for the fact It has an inter-spatial warp drive and twin impulse exhaust. The existing nacelles on the sovereign will be used but with the additions added to them, so In a way that they will look more like the Sentinel without having to replace the nacelles entirely.

I would do a Sentinel texture scheme for this. Its the one thing I always liked about the Sentinel and distinguished it apart from a normal Sovie. I had never actually noticed the double impulses and enlarged warp engines until now.

The registry Is done, here's a teaser. As I said I want to keep this as close as possible this time around, so you will get a snip of the textures In this shot. But I don't know If these textures will stay or not, I have been experimenting all day and I have figured out how I want them laid out, but I don't know If I should stick to what I have or go In a different direction.

I also decided to use the CG's Ultra Resolution Textures, to get the most amount of detail.

Dish Is Done! I know It's not Sovereign Gold but c'mon how can you pass up a dish that looks that good? I've been holding onto that for a while. I have also added a registry to the yacht, Centurus came up with the name Spartacus. Even though the yacht does not separate It's still good to give It a name, It's bad luck to not name a ship :D

For a second there I was expecting to see "this is sparta" on the Quantam torpedo launcher

Dorsal hull textures are complete, I have begun on the ventral textures now. I know there are no nacelle textures because I am waiting until Wiley has done his magic with the model before I start working on those.

Meteora, if I might make a suggestion.

Why not try your hands at Wiley's registry tutorial to get the red white and blue onto the registry.  IMO It would look better :)

link  You'll have to scroll down till you find it.

Otherwise, it's awesome :)

Looking real nice!

I agree with eclipse, changing the registry to look better (more contrast and sharper definition) would clean it up nicely.

I have increased the contrast and sharpness and this Is as good as It's going to get for the night, without breaking canon colors and font size which Is something I really don't want to do.

Ill work on It more tomorrow after I get back from a job interview.

Heres a shot In Max and In MPE, I forgot how ugly MPE makes things look *shudders*

Great attention to detail.
