Stripper connie TNG
« on: January 21, 2011, 03:45:15 PM »
guess who's actually playing with max, for once!

I took an Open Source connie, stripped the frou-frou off, and now want to add a few elements back in.  i'm contemplating replacing the pylons, but the basic shell of a TOS connie is still there.

i intend to redeco as TNG or up.

Looks like you have a good starting point created.

DJ Curtis is the only other modder I've seen recently take the Connie to TNG level. though he left the basic hull design and layout intact. Be interesting to see what you change on her.

I second what Vedic said,, :)

at this point, since I'm a total NOOB, I'm tempted to leave all as is now, and simply slap paint goodies on. however, the least I think I'm gonna do is give the thing a torp launcher module, rather than have it fire torps from the underside dome foreward face.

wish me luck adding stuff and getting it right, peeps.

Just make changes where you feel they should be made and what you feel looks right.  It's all a matter of personal preference.

I did pm you some items you might find usefull for tng-ifing a connie.
I just realised something. I've released over 300 fully modded ships for bridge commander. Bow to your master :D

Oh man you should take a look at Deg 3d's Connie for a reference!

I've finished up with the model itself.  other than some minor tweaks, it's now onto the interesting part of getting textures on it.

with the preliminay textures on it...now I have to wait to have someone check and see if I did this right, or I have to create UV's all over again  :banghead:

thought you guys deserved a peek before BC gets stuffed into a Mayflower van for a while :P

I'm actually heading somewhere with textures, with big thanks to Baz for a LOT of help.

glad I prodded ya.

the original model was Stresspuppy's take on the connie, and kinda rough around the edges due to limitations of the time.  I stripped off the tack on nav lights, and the "grab handles" and the warp balls on the nacelles.  the lights and warp balls would have needed redone, anyway.  other than thickening the neck and widening the Nacelle pylons, that's the only real alterations.

i did screw up on the Impulse deck, however, so I improvised.

i think I better redo the nacelles themselves, though.  i got the registry numbers a bit too big :P

To be honest kind of surprised you didn't go for a Daed King....

I'm working on that

i actually have an idea for a PDW take on a dade that's more a nod to the configuration (there's no "round head" on it), but I can't model for crap :P  i'm more in the "chip foose" department.

dug up my tablet and actually did some work on the TNG connie today.  it's not perfect, and still needs tweaks, but tell me what you think (and see if you can spot the joke)
