Request a ship - New Deferred Lighting Technique
« on: March 22, 2011, 07:27:09 PM »
Thanks to Cordanilus, we are able to produce a new kind of glow for engines, deflectors, regs etc, sooo as a side project to the DQP I'm willing to add this to any ship on bcf. If the modelers are here on bcc and are willing for me to make the changes i will do it, if not ill have to contact them and do it the hard way :P

So let the list begin ;)

Note CGI Voyager, U.S.S. Nova is already done

DJ's Galaxys would look amazing. Just imagining the bussard collectors lighting up the interconnecting hull and ventral rear saucer  :)

eeks - i can already see this thread having 100 pages within a week - poor Jb, now youll never have any time for life, sleep, food, etc...  lol j/k :P
im assuming these new glows can be done on any race's ship?  (klingon, romulan, etc)?

also - is this new technique difficult to do?  for example could any noob with practically no modeling skill do it?
id be curious to try it out myself, but i am one of those noobs lol  scripting i can do, modding not so much :P
perhaps at some point a tutorial thread could be made for noob-modelers like myself? :D

Lol well my time working on bc might be getting even tighter soon.

Yep you can do this for any races, just prefer fed ships :P

The technique isn't that difficult at all, just making it look right is the hard part. Anyone who can create normal glows can do this... All that is different is the fact you can use any colour. Ill try get time this week to make a tutorial on it so then i don't have to do all the thousands of ships on bcfiles  :funny

dude, start cranking on that tutorial.  when even JIMMY wants to put a hand in, you have a winner!  besides, the faster you get THAT done, the quicker you can get back to the other projects without having that one on the back burner.

Yup, it isn't too difficult to do.

As for the engine warm-up script...never tried it but I don't think it will work with it since, (I think) that script deals with the alpha channel of the texture.  This technique doesn't use the alpha channel at all.  As me says, never tried it so who knows. :D

This is insanely cool. I would be happy with anything by DJ, WC, or Baz being done with this technique. I see great things ahead lol.

It's called Dream Player and it is from Danosongs.com

It is a website with "free to use" music in which the only requirement is credits.  I like to look for these kinds of places so I don't have to worry about copyright infringement, so it's all good.

nice job with the vid.  the last time I tried to record something, my comp coughed up a hairball.

too bad i couldn't get the trick to work.  Of course, the more complicated a program is, the more confused I get :P
