BC Files strange things
« on: April 18, 2011, 05:25:40 PM »
Is it just me or is BC Files getting really bad of late with regards to logging in and d/l files..?

When not logged in I can see all files available to download but as soon as I'm logged in it just throws an error up at me saying..."The following error has occured:
Invalid File ID!

This could mean the File you are looking for has been deleted (and possibly replaced by a newer version). Please use our internal search engine to try and find the file you were looking for!"

I know you can download and view when not signed in but is rather fudging annoying when wanting to make a comment and cannot view anything when logged in....tried the usual suspects diff browsers, clean cache/cookies etc....would be nice to know its not just me going mad...lol

A lot of the issues aren't with so much BCFiles itself, but with Break Media (the company that owns FileFront and subsequently BCFiles).  FileFront in general just needs better management.

ya it would be nice to be able to see screenshots of mods, for example lol :P
it seems like since it was taken over some months ago, there has been problem after problem, with multiple problems at once, and it seems to take the team a really long time to sort and fix things...  before it was taken over there would be occasional problems here and there but were fixed quickly...
ah well, it could be much worst - at least the site is up and running anyway...

Besides taking a (well-deserved, I think) break from modding and enjoying RL/work for first time in months, this is one of frakkin' MAJOR gripes stopped me uploading or downloading anything  :) Does anyone know if this is semi-permanent state?  Curious also if any alternative to BCF...

ps:  great work on screenshots, Tally.  Can appreciate your frustration  :hithead:

Well, Break did post this news item about THREE WEEKS after the screenshots stopped working, so who knows how to take that one.  For your second question, there is ModDB but I'm not sure they would dedicate the amount of space needed for all of BC's mods.  Besides, jumping ship from BCF would likely involve downloaded all the mods on the site (over 4500 of them at almost 28GB) and transferring them to whatever replacement we would be using - a pretty big job.

I couldn't agree more, not to mention Break's promise to totally revamp the sites and introduce a new layout...

But...it's not like we're paying for it and we don't have anything else so...we're stuck...

The SFR&D Miranda set appears to have disappeared altogether?

EDIT, It is back again. Some reason nowadays I have to refresh the page every time I visit.

it's also doing this across multiple browsers.  i think the owners, going by what pops up as ads, aren't used to the interacticity we're generating on them.  mabey T&A only generates so many visits?

Hi Nero  :)   28GB doesn't sound a lot...or is that just me  :)    But yeah, agree that it's free service and we should be grateful for that so probably should stick with it and hope fix soon.  But from casual observation don't get any sense of urgency or interest.   Just feels...sloppy and lazy...

Lol I guess it's a matter of opinion.  Now that I'm thinking about it 28GB doesn't seem like a lot considering we have TB hard drives and what not...

It probably couldn't hurt if we at least talked to the people at ModDB and see if they'd consider hosting BC's mods - you never know until you try.  :)

Well remember the IT team there works for ALL of the BM sites not just FF.
All hail the messiah!
