Transformers 3 is awesome!
« on: July 06, 2011, 02:31:58 PM »
Many say its even better than the first and I think I would agree with them. Had me in suspense many times knowing that this was it and not knowing who was gonna die.

Also, who here has seen Super 8 and Green Lantern? Heard more good than bad for both.
All hail the messiah!

Sure beat the pants off of the second one.  Coherent story, no badly repeated CGI(like the Optimus scene after  he gets up), and no robots appearing for one scene and then disappearing(I'm lookin at you Jolt).  I loved the second movie, but I think it really should have been delayed until the Winter to allow for rewrites.  Thank you writer's strike. :p

I haven't seen Super 8, but I enjoyed Green Lantern.  Can't say I enjoyed it as much as Transformers 3, but it was a good movie.

MASSIVE SPOILERS BELOW!

I was a bit upset that they killed Ironhide, but I realize why they did.  If it had been Optimus again, people would've walked out of the theater.  If it had been Bumblebee, then Sam's connection to the Autobots would be weakened and he'd pretty much be rendered useless.  And if it had been Sideswipe or Mirage, there would have been no emotional connection since they were fairly new and only Sideswipe was given any real character.  So, sadly, Ironhide was the only real choice to die to make the audience give a damn about Sentinel's betrayal.  And Sentinel's betrayal surprised me at first, but in retrospect, I should have seen it coming.  I was expecting Nimoy to give Sentinel a more of a Spock-like voice, yet it reminded me more of his depiction of Galvatron.

And also due to that Ironhide was his biggest threat other than Optimus. But yeah that kinda sucked he was cool.

my only main complaint was the lack of megan fox, however the british blonde wasnt too bad of a replacement (the accent made me melt ), IMHO the last battle was drawn out WAY too much for my tastes, they could have extended the last standoff between optimus, sentinal, and megatron instead of doing a "hellboy" type final kill. HOWEVER, all in all i felt it was better than the second one (mainly because optimus FINALLY gets his damn trailer)

and nimoy as sentinal = win
(it seriously took me a second to pin it down.... i know... i should be  :smack:)

(funny story)
before i went into the theatre (midnight premeire showing) i chugged a pint of beer in the parking lot, ( i wanted a buzz to see this one) by the time the british chick was on screen i had to PISS like a race horse, so with the MOST convienent timing i yelled out:
"WHAT?!! no Megan Fox?!!?? F*ck this!!!"
after saying this i got up to go to the bathroom and walked out, cracking up the WHOLE theatre.

by the by, anyone else see the trailer for rockm sockm robots the movie starring hugh jackman?
i couldnt stop laughing at it.....
I came, i saw, i added a Sig.
Later gents, i have Youtube to take over.

Saw it last week and in 3D. I loved it.

Wish the twins had been in it and which ever component of Arcee that survived to make the Autobot death count higher. And Michael Bay I did see one of the twins in vehicle mode!

I do like that almost all the Autobots bar Q had at least several lines and action scenes. Loved Soundwave's new alt mode and there was a nice nod to the G1 Soundwave. Also I wish Barricade had got a name shout out but at least he was in it.

I actually wanted to cry at a few of the good twists and turns in the film

I didn't like that they changed a couple of names.  Q(or Que) was SUPPOSED TO BE Wheeljack.  And "Dino" was supposed to be Mirage.

not really.  i believe one of the biggest complaints I read about the second movie was that there was too much emphasis on her ass and not enough on the plot.  this is why, if there's a movie that ends up with more than one sequal, i don't bother past the first movie.  there's very few exceptions to this in some movie series.  thanks to the first Video Game movies, I got put off of a lot of sequals.

some characters probably couldn't be gotten ahold of, and, of course, they couldn't do most of the characters in their original transformations due to Copyright issues, corporate decisions (Porsche and Volkswagen have a "no War" clause for their products, thanks to the Beetle's association with Hitler), and "trying to keep the kids safe" (megatron is no longer any form of gun because of "no realistic toy guns" rules).  besides, no fan would accept Wheeljack in any form except his Grand Touring Alitalia Stratos form.  i don't know if Alitalia even exists anymore.  besides, they probably didn't wanna pay any more royalties, and GM would have booted them out for it.

although I do think turning Jazz in the first one into a ghetto blaster personality was dumb. (along with a lot of the known character's personality switches), but they ARE aiming at a modern audience instead of the 80's fanboys.  this is one of the few movie series in the "80's Nostalga Wave" group to actually DO so.

sorry, I'm a bit of a geewunner.

Wrong.  She criticized Michael Bay's directing and compared him to Adolf Hitler.  Stephen Spielberg learned of this and urged Bay to throw her skanky arse off the set.

Plus, any actress who says (paraphrasing) "I'm the reason that the Transformers movies were successful" is too arrogant.

Come on be honest how many of us went to see the films because of the lead actress?

I couldn't care less who played what human characters. I wanted to see my favourite G1 Autobots kicking Decepticon ass and causing as much damage as possible as they do it!!!!

Also I was a little annoyed with Wheeljack being renamed Que. I already love two fictional characters called Q so I didn't need a third. But considering how little screen time he got and only had a few lines it wasn't a total loss.

I believe Dino was named after the founder of Ferrari and was named Dino at their request. Which is fair enough plus I've a soft spot for the peaceful, English accented formula one car called Mirage so glad they left the name untouched.

But what was with Megatron and Starscream doing the whole two point four children thing out in Africa? And surely someone on a safari holiday would have noticed a gaint camp!

Enzo Ferrari was the founder. Alfredino (Dino) Ferrari was his son who died of muscular dystrophy (I think) in his early twenties...sorry my OCD car-obsessed self could not resist :D

Okay, that makes a little sense, but then...why would the video game still refer to him as Mirage?

As for Megatron's "base"...think about who you're talking about.  You don't think he'd let anyone who noticed their camp live, do you?

Got to say yes far better then TF2, and I loved the trek nod to the line "The needs of the many...." .

For someone who retired from acting Mr Nimoy has been very busy lately. Or was he just retiring from Spock?

Any way in TF4 Unicron will show up and turn Sentinal into Galvatron, who will blast Megatron to atoms.

I think he did TF3 as a favor to Michael Bay since Nimoy is married to Michael's cousin.

There's not much left of Sentinel Prime or Megatron.  And with Shockwave, Soundwave, Laserbeak, Barricade, and Starscream all confirmed destroyed...well, who's left?  I think if there is another Transformers movie, it'll be a reboot.

Thanks for correcting me Patrick :)

If they do a TF4 I hope it is not a reboot. I mean all the Autobots survived bar two. There are no doubt more fighting Decepticons out there in the Galaxy. The Aerialbots and Unicorn deserve the live action treatment.

I did think way back if Unicorn ever did show up having him cruising around as an aircraft carrier or an Iowa class battleship would be cool.

And give us the Dinobots!  :funny

Can't agree there, my friends and I let out a groan of disbelief when he said it! It was a misuse of the line - recasting it as an evil sentiment. It was a betrayal of the spirit of the line.

I had a tough enough time accepting Spock as a bad guy, when he turned coat, but his performance was great, so I bought it, with difficulty. Then he said that.... oh gosh, my heart still aches to think of it.

As for the movie overall - call me an old fuddy-duddy, but, while I enjoyed it as entertainment, I found it very hard to follow. I found many of the second-teir robots indistinguishable from one another, and the editing was schizophrenic, especially in the beginning (after the prologue), where it seemed it was a sin to maintain any one camera angle for more than a second, or for any scene (that didn't involved that talentless hottie's ass) to have more than three lines of dialogue.

What I liked: The prologue was amazing. Excellent Sci-Fi setup, brilliant re-casting of the space race's motivation. (Terrible JFK CGI face!) Buzz Aldrin's appearance was unexpected, and his performance was pretty good!
Some of my friends groaned about the final battle scenes in Chicago being over-extended, but this really is what Bay odes best, and I found it very entertaining.

Well Bren, this isn't the first time Leonard Nimoy has portrayed a villain.  In fact, he gave voice to Galvatron in the animated Transformers movie.

As for the line, while it is building it in an evil light, Sentinel was using it correctly.  From his point of view, the needs of his people and his home of Cybertron outweighed the needs of us and Earth.
