Need help with Ship Scaling
« on: November 23, 2011, 05:11:41 AM »
I was playing the other day with an Excelsior class (my favourite Federation ship)  vs Galor types, and i noticed that the Galor was bigger than the Excelsior was! I did some research, only to find out that the Excelsior i have been using, as well as the one that came included with KM is about 20-30% too small! Hence i ask, is there a way to make the ship bigger so it can be more cannon?

Get yourself NifSkope, open model with it, look on left side tab window called "Block List" for a NiNode then right-click on it -> transform -> Edit, (new window appears) on the bottom will be scale, set it to whatever you feel right then save the model ;) you might need to reallign hardpoints as well after that but I'm not sure of that

Thank you so much for your help, sadly my changes have no effect, the ship is the same size, i changed the scale number from 1.000 to 2.500 and no change.

thank you, i tried up to 12.5000 and no luck, the ship is still the same size, could it be the nif.vox files?

If you have changed the nif always as good practice delete the VOX file before you restart the game.

i deleted the nif.vox, and raised the ship scale to 16.500 for both 0 NiNode and 89NiNode and still no difference. Does anybody know a good number to increase the ships size by 30%?

If i recall correctly, I needed to edit the scale values for the main "NiNode" tab as well as the "Scene Root" tab in order to scale my ships. Try that.

Thank you, that did it. Now, while i could fix all the hardpoint properties, the torpedo tubes and such never go where i want them to, is it better to just restart from "scratch"

Use MPE. I never used to use it until about 2 months ago because I found it cumbersome, but it is the best thing out there, and its not so bad once you get to know it.

I do use MPE, i have re-hardpointed many ships before, however, this is the first re-scaled ship i have hardpointed with MPE, i try move the torpedo tubes and the phasers to their proper place but they always go somewhere far from where i selected, and they arent even touching the ship. In the other hand with other ships, i have no such problem, i can edit and move things at my will with ease. Do you know what might be the problem?

Ah, ha. Now I understand what you mean.

I tried to rescale the Scimitar that is included with KM1.0 and afterwards, the hardpoints are all messed up. I've tried modifying the scale of the main NiNode, the sub NiNode and the Scene Root. They each seem to multiply on eachother (so having each scaled at 0.5 will be like having 0.5 x 0.5 x 0.5 which is 0.125). But afterwards, putting hardpoints on the ship in MPE does not seem to get them in the right place while in game.

Did you find a solution to this problem yet zgok?

Sadly i havent found a solution yet, a shame, but i assume that the best thing to do for not is to restart the hardpointing from the beginning using a similar ship as a template.

Ya this is driving me crazy.

I just tried to re-scale the Scimitar in Milkshape and then re-export it back as a Nif with a scale of 0.55 what it was. The ship appears fine in game and it is now the correct scale. The Hardpoint locations in MPE seem to be fine to since they go to where i click using the locate tool. The problem is in game the hardpoints are completely off. The little white flash that happens when a torpedo is fired appears in the correct place but the torpedo itself comes out of the wrong place  :banghead:
What is going on here? What have you other modelers done to scale your models? Why are Zgok and I having this annoying problem?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried deleting the vox file in the ships folder for the game. Do this after rescale delete vox and then Hardpoint with the mpe. I hope this helps

There is no VOX file.

Uhm, hate to break it to you BC automatically creates a Vox.nif file every time you use it....

ummhh well if you have a quick battle game with your ship then exit bc there should be a vox file in your ship folder. Delete that import ship into Milkshape from your bc directory save and then use the mpe to edit hardpoints then check in game.
