Sound modding help

I've begun compiling an audio library I wanted to use in BC that Ive grabbed from outside sources and editted in Audacity. The file is in wav. format but the engine wont play the sound when I use it. What do I need to do to export the file in a format that the engine will play?

Here is a audio wav that I created in audacity if anyone wants to look at it and find out why its not working in BC. Im renaming the file to replace one of the stock sounds so importing it into the game shouldn't be a problem...

EDT: Why can't I attach files onto this site anymore???

you've been away that long?  attachments were removed to save server space by admin.  it also saved them money, if I remember right.

Ya. No worries, I figured out what was wrong anyways. You can lock this thread if need be. If anyone wants to hear my new CANON sfx, feel free to pm me and i will send a zip over to you.

I grabbed the audio file from online sources which were in MP3 format. I used Audacity to select the segments I wanted and exported the file as a wav. file. This method of export is in a format BC does NOT recognize, regardless of bit rate or size.

The trick was to go back into Audacity and select under tracks, stereo to MONO. If you do this, you can play ANY sfx you find on the computer in BC. So if anyone wants to grab audio files from a movie, or Tv show that they liked, make sure that you export is as a WAV file AND make sure the format is in MONO.

i have found that WinLame also works perfectly to encode sound files for BC...

You can also import any BC sfx into Audacity to see how it was exported- WAV file and have it set to MONO. I use Audacity for all of my sound recording/exporting.

Generally the trick regarding MP3's is to use:
Mono Channel Mode
Constant Bit Rate
Sample Rate 44100
CBR should be 64-128 kbps

I've actually got sound files WAY over that CBR that work. The problem is having the sfx in mono format.

It might work on your system.

Some people have reported that instead of getting a sound they got a high pitched noise, BC was unable to play the sounds properly. The solution was to use the following guidelines.
