Jaggies
« on: March 11, 2007, 09:55:59 AM »
I dont know how or why, but Im getting really bad jagged lines on all the ship models in my game even though my anti-aliasing is set to x6 in my graphics card settings.

What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it?

Im using a X1900XTX 512mb Radeon card. My anisotropic filtering settings are fine.

I dont just dont want ship models that look like they were cut out of cardboard by a 3 year old.
Can't wait for 2014 to start.

Radeon Control Panel is crap, stay away from it.

Download only the drivers (video and wdm), and install ATi Tray Tools.

http://www.guru3d.com/article/atitraytools/189/

Its much better and will not lose gamma settings and AA if you Alt-Tab.

Also try cranking up the Multi Sampling.
I still can't read peoples minds, nor can I read peoples computers, even worse, I can't combine the two to read what is going wrong with your BC install...

I'm not sure of the name.

But it should be below the AA slider.

There isnt any additional option below the AA slider. Im using the latest version of ATI Catalyst Control Center for my graphics card.

This is only from memory.

There should be 2 types, one for AA, and another for something else.

It's a pity I can't remember it correctly.
For your information, I'm not upgrading my drivers for some time, and the catalyst control panel is broken for me.
The last time I updated the driver/control panel it took me 5 hours to correct it to a previous state.
640x480 at 60 Hz isn't nice.

This didnt work. Ive adjusted the AA and AF settings to what I want and the ship models, or any other models for that matter, still have jagged edges.

I hate ATI. I might aswell switch to nvidia.

Did you completly uninstall the ATi control panel ? If you did you shouldnt see any ATi related tabs when you right click on the desktop and select properties - settings - advanced.

What resolution you using ? Even at 8x AA you will still get some jaggies at 1024x768 or below.

BC only uses Direct3D, so make sure youre not using OpenGL AA in the ATi Tray Tools by mistake.

Im using a 1600x1200 resolution screen. How do I make BC distinguish between Direct3D and OpenGL in the ATI Tray Tools then?

All previous ATI software has been uninstalled and cleaned out using Driver Cleaner Pro.

DO you run other games in windowed mode? I've noticed after running HL2 in windowed and switching to a full screen game, my settings appear rest to default (they don't actually reset). Are you running BC at your Desktop RES?

I think it might be a problem with the new cards. It worked fine on my 9700 and my x700, but is soon as I switched to the x1XXX series (I'm on a x1950pro 256) I couldn't get AA to work in BC. AF seems to work fine.

Try running with tray tools at low, open BC start a game, minimize set them to high and resume.

Did you un-install them first?
I just updated yesterday and its working fine.

BC is an old game, you cant control AA and AF from inside of it. You must force the drivers to do it.

Just right click on the ATi Tray Tools icon on the bottom right corner of the desktop.

Select Direct3D - Antialiasing - 6x (or greater)

Tried that. No changes in the game.
I now hate ATI  :argh: :argh: :argh: but im sruck with it until I can afford a nvidia high end card so any more help with this is welcome.

heh thats odd I have ATI and experienced no issues.
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

The only thing I can think of is right click desktop  properties - settings - advanced - troubleshoot  and check if the hardware acceleration is on full.

Yep its on full. This problem only seems to effect bridge commander. For example, I was just playing UT2004 which is also a Direct3D based game and it runs beautifully with all settings maxed out. As should Bridge Commander, but doesnt.

This problem is affecting all 3 of my Bridge Commander installes (KM Install, Custom Install-With DS9FX Beta-, and BC Supermod install).

All my games are run on this graphics card. My screen res is 1600x1200, as it is in most of my games.
