Single Player Instability
« on: May 17, 2013, 12:29:19 PM »
HI everyone,

I have been working on BC to try and update the graphics and hardpoints for teh stock ships so that I could play the game in single player, but have yet again begun experiencing crashes, bugged missions and general instability. I don't have nanofx installed, only ship models, custom sfx and music, and my own tweaked hardpoints. Why is BC single player still unplayable?

Does the foundation plugin make the game unusable? I just don't get why the game crashes at stupid times at random.

people are/were still working on a tweak for SP that makes it more playable.  however, since most of the community is moving on to the exaclibur reboot and past mods dealt almost exclusively with the quick battle mode, there's not much emphasis on SP.

note that SP is best used bone stock.  most mods cause SP to derp out.

the SP mod is still being worked on and is near completion actually...
right now, we're kinda stuck on fixing the problem NanoFX (or whatever seems to cause issues) seems to have with the Save Game function; Defiant and i have been working together very hard on this for quite a while now...  it is tedious to say the least and very deep into scripts...
lately, ive been kinda busy with life (and holding up the process), so things have been stagnant the last few weeks... but i will jump back into it all again very soon :)
trust me - we've all come so far with this mod and all have put so much into it, there is no way in hell it wont be completed and released, even if it takes a little bit of time...  we are determined to conquer this :)

From what I can tell it looks like Foundation is what kills SP. I have an install with ONLY the 1.1 patch, the basic foundation that comes with BCUT, and custom models and hardpoints. No other scripting mods are installed at all but the single player missions still freeze and kick me to the desktop at certain points. No console report is given in these situations so it's even more difficult to narrow down the exact cause.

I would really like a solution to this. Hopefully the SP mod will solve these issues.  :)

I'll tell you 3 things that custom ships and hps do to Single player... if the sov is missing the plasma torps or quantum torps things will go boom
If the akira is missing quantum torps then things will go boom.... if the kling bops are missing their torps then things will go boom.

SP calls on those torps for particular missions and if they are missing then SP doesn't know what to do and will hang.
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

Yeah, I know about the issues with torpedoes and I have successfully been able to avoid those problems. It's the other unknown issues that are the problem.

Not all of them, just a few at various times.

I have just recently added my custom hardpoints and high quality ship models to a fresh install. I'll play through the SP missions and make a list of when the game crashes.

E1M1 - OK (Sometimes I get Kiska saying "we cannot warp while inside the starbase" even though I'm clearly outside of it)
E1M2 - OK
E2M0 - OK (Had to buff the BOP's in that mission because the Warbirds kept killing them)
E2M1 - OK
E2M2 - OK
E2M3 - OK (Had to modify the mission script to prevent the BOP's from trying to switch to secondary torpedoes)
E3M1 -

I'll update this post as I play through.

E1M1 Station issue... its the station radius in the HP... it needs to be adjusted.

As you've been one of the SP Mod alpha testers (though very naughtily customising it), you know very well that it does.

Apart from the save game issue Jimmy mentioned above, which he and Defiant have been valiantly trying to fix, the SP Mod project is fully playable mission game with all new ships, hardpoints, crew models, yadda yadda, plus NanoFX. I recently fired it up for first time in ages on new quad core rig and, yup, it's stunning to look at.

I'm quite happy to give any advice (that I can recall) for anyone wanting to do their own custom SP from scratch, but in all honesty my advice would be for folks to wait for release as we'll have done all the hard work for you  :funny
