The desktop thread gave me incentive to reorganise my desktop and unclutter it a bit.
Yes! I have finally archieved perfect minimalism.
(without loss in efficiency, my favorite folders/programs/actions are either in the quick launch, or pinned in the start menu one click away, including the recycle bin)

Well this shot's a bit cluttered but I had a go installing an other vista theme. This one has new toolbars, cannon start menu and i installed a IE 7 theme into firefox. Also there's Windows Media Centre in there aswell and new fonts.

2nd and 3rd are the least appealing. The '67 gt500 is better IMO.

Better in terms of horse power, yes. Personally I prefer the rear lights of the 350. Everything else is great on the 500, but visually I prefer 300 and 350.

Hehe. Yep. We were offered an upgrade to XP countless times, but I dont like some of the features, including the forced registration/activation. So im going to hold out as long as possible. Besides, the higher you go the more venerable and less stable the OS.

I actually wish I could still use 98SE...I hated having to upgrade to 2000, at least with 98 I could fix problems easily with a dos prompt. No more...and its not more stable without dos, its less.
And yes, I noticed that XP takes much longer to load and uses much higher resources than 2000, loading a bunch of crap services you dont need. Then, as always, you have the fun task of trying to manage the services to get rid of what you dont need.
At any rate im hoping I can hold on to 2000 for at least another year...programs are starting to require XP as a min, even though those programs still seem to run on XP, which to me seems odd....

I find particularly amusing that it is made by Microsoft.
Bluescreen cycles between different Blue Screens and simulated boots every 15 seconds or so. Virtually all the information shown on Bluescreen's BSOD and system start screen is obtained from your system configuration - its accuracy will fool even advanced NT developers. For example, the NT build number, processor revision, loaded drivers and addresses, disk drive characteristics, and memory size are all taken from the system Bluescreen is running on.
I find even amusier the care and methodology they have put into it.

You can run the 3D desktop stuff with only one monitor too. :-) Download one of the Linux live CD's (runs the OS off a cd, rather than installing it) and you can try it all out. :mrgreen: I'd be happy to help you get it working or whatever.

I have LCARS Terminal too, nice little program....whenever there's readmes that include backgrounds and specs for ship mods I tend to add them into the library of that program. ^.^

Thanks!.....and the dock is just "RocketDock" with the "Stacks Docklet" which is set to "Grid", the icons are from deviantart which includes a .psd so you can make custom incons which I did make a few.

Well the first is 1920x1200, the second is 3200x2589 and the sunrise is 1600x1200. So I guess the sunrise won't fit. If you could PM me your email address I'll send the nebulae to you. They are too big a file size to upload here.

When in doubt, use WoW screenshots. Timing it for this (the lightning) was actually kinda irritating.
Though this looks like a Windows 98-like setting, this is actually Vista - I turned off every one of these stupid features that leeches my memory.

...and yes, all transperancies & animations are off, and the taskbar is on "auto-hide".
If you have trouble realizing wither your monitor is on or off I suspect you could say that clean desktop perfection has been archieved. :P
The black desktop does have some practical usage. First off I am bored of getting bored with desktop backgrounds.
Second the same computer is also connected to a projector. (my computer is something like a workplace/library/hifi & home cinema device)
Since there is no such thing as "black light", for a projector the solution to displaying it, is trying not to throw any. So if it is turned on, but not in the process of displaying something specific, it doesn't illuminate the space.

I finally managed to clear my work desktop up. Thanks to the wonders of Firefox (Opera has the superior downloading interface, I have to add), people just save random shit to the desktop and never move it anywhere sensible when they're done with it. So now I can actually see the desktop image for a change!! You can try and guess which one is me.

I had something very similar happen to me a few months ago, I ordered a Thrustmaster HOTAS throttle from a company through Amazon for nearly a hundred dollars, and when I opened the box, I got fax toner. I called the customer service number in the box and they insisted that they never had such a throttle available in their store, then when I asked for a refund I first had to explain to the idiot on the other end that I did not have a fax machine, and thus did not want the toner, then I had to threaten to file a complaint with amazon in order to get him to give me an actual refund instead of store credit.

Make no mistake. The nice thing with an uncluttered desktop is that you can clutter it.
For example, everything I download, always gets saved in the desktop. And when I work on something, again everything gets saved on the desktop. Documents, 3d models, pictures etc. I simply collect everything in a folder and file it somewhere in the hard disk when I am done with it.
So you clutterists, simply clutter your desktop once, whilst we anti-clutterists, get to clutter our again and again. Often many times a day. :P

Yeah, how can anyone not love Home Improvement? Too bad that Tim Allen is so far out of his element. It's like he can't be in any good movies any more in the same way that William Shatner can't. Both have simply grown too old for the roles they were fated for.

Jimmy is probably like me - enjoying having real seasons. In southern California, we had two seasons - hot and cold. Leaves didn't change, fall, nothing. Or, to put it like this: Fall weather in Massachusetts is winter weather where I lived in California.
My mother took the camera with her and just started shooting pictures of the changing leaves...even after two years, we still love our autumns.

Indeed it is. :) Not the beta test, alas, but the public test realm for the patch that is likely coming on Tuesday, showing all the world changes; the ruins of Gilneas are accessable (the only one of the "new zones" - i.e. zones that are not changes of the previous ones - that is accessable without Cataclysm installed) because there are a couple of undead quests out of Silverpine that involve coming in here. I was exploring with my 80 BE pally, though, just checking this crap out, heh.

After having played World of Warcraft for about 6 years (quit playing about a month after Cataclysm released), I wasn't too tempted to buy any further expansion packs. But the notion of playing a Pandaren Monk, strikes me as quite intriguing. And from the videos i've seen of Mists of Pandaria, the environments look to be total kick-ass.
In short: I may be drawn into the realm of World of Warcraft once again. Time will tell (following releases of Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2).
