For those of you who've been following the thread in the Excalibur forum, you know that I'll be using this thread for the remainder of the ship's construction.

Just to sum up what I've been working on since last night...

-Ventral side of the engineering hull
 -deflector color
 -nacelle pylons
 -nacelle grills
 -added nacelle "ribs"
 -moved ventral phaser array forward
-right now, i'm working on the tops of the nacelles
-added thrusters to the drive section and saucer
 -lateral sensors

 Pics...

				Thanks DJ,
I just had to change my underwear because of you!
Looking awesome, i cant wait :D
-
				Growing nicely :)

-
Fantastic work on this DJ! So I now assume this isnt going to be exclusive to excalibur anymore whilst it's in these forums?

				Really good work DJ...

I'm liking the look of this baby, what i the current poly count btw.  :D

I'm afraid that when your Galaxy Class is released, mine are gonna be relegated to the scrap heap lol!!

Anyhow, great work..... keep it up dude!!   8)

EDIT -  also I take it that this baby is gonna be fully Mvam compatible!?, if so I have a whole host of Trek related music scores which are perfect for the separation sequence cutscene. Drop me a line at some point if your interested!!  :D
-
				That ship looks amazing. :D

Dude, I think I found an excuse to look at the Galaxy Blueprints.  The funny part is, they're not 100% accurate either. :D
-
				Excellent work as usual :D

-
I love it! Galaxy is still one of my favs. I hope it'll be a bit tougher then the galaxy template we ran into when playing KM1. The galaxy there stat-wise felt a bit under-rated, being rather vulnerable. I'll be bookmarking this thread for sure!

-
Jay Crimson--> As far as the HP strength, yes, it will be more substantial that the ship in KM 1.0, though still balanced.

Cordanilus--> You know, the funny thing is that the ship, no matter which model, changed a lot over the years.  it's hard to find consistent details.

Glenn--> 12,889 is the poly count.  But if it makes you feel any better, I'm trying to send every other Galaxy Class to the scrap heap.  And there are a lot of them. :)  It's just time for a new one from scratch.  Though i've been using no ship but your Venture since it was released.  And yes, the ship will separate.

Jb06--> I started this ship before the announcement of Excalibur, but it will be included with that mod.  It is not, however, exclusive to that mod, much like LC's Intrepid, Defiant, etc.

 More pix soon
-
cool, that it is also a single release.
this mod makes me (once more) proud to be part of this community, which is still extremely active and of High Quality!
Looking forward for example for Newman, You, Dj, Glenn just to call some of them!!

/edit:What do you think will be the final poly count? and how many did your ent f have??
-
The sooner this ship is out the better, i love the work you have done so far.

-
Actually the more time DJ Curtis takes for it the more times he'll improve things he encounters to not work right.

-
Cordanilus--> You know, the funny thing is that the ship, no matter which model, changed a lot over the years.  it's hard to find consistent details.
 Yippers :D  I know.
I was referring to the blueprints actually.  There's an error in the bridge layout compared to what was seen in the show.
 It's about the conference lounge...anyway.

You galaxy looks spectacular. :D  I can just imagine the enterprise now, in a recreation of the intro for the series...in 1600x1200 resolution. :D
-
Some progress on the tops of the engines.

-
I can only repeat what all others already said,

 excellent work :D
-
				Absolutely beautiful

-
WOW great progress You've made here DJ this ship looks better and better can't wait to see it in action  :)

-
More work done to the tops of the engines.

-
Something tells me this will be reason why you'll be nominated to modder of the month

-
The progress looks great DJ! :) Keep it up! :dance

-
I love the overall shape of this Galaxy model. Looks like a dead-ringer for my ERTL Model. Nice work there.

-
				Wonderful work DJ.
What software are you using, and have you thought about making some tutorials for us "modeling impaired"?
-
				DJ,
You left out one little detail on the nacelles...the outline of the emblem *ducks knowing you know that* LOL.  Nah, this is lookin hella good :).  Can't wait to DL it...and hope I have a computer WORTHY of this masterpiece soon (TAX TIME :D)
-
				eclipse74569-->Thanks, I'll have a look at that.

DragnLord--> I use max 5 to make both mesh and textures.  i could make tutorials, but then I wouldn't have time to make ships. lol

Finished off the tops of the nacelles, and started on the bottom.  here's some beauty shots.
-
Throughout all of the models used for the Galaxy class in all of the ST shows that had a Galaxy ship, this would have absolutely been the best by far for its excellent "hybridness" and overall quality... if only you worked for the SFX dept during the shows DJ  :D

 Superb.
-
Well, i was only 12 when TNG went off the air, and 17 when DS9 did, so I'd have been a bit young. ;)  But I appreciate the sentiment.  You know, it's funny, when I set out building this ship, i was trying to match that season 3-7 model, and in a lot of ways, I think I've succeeded.  But you are right, this ship has turned mostly into a hybrid of all the models (real and cgi) used.  So far, I'm very satisfied with the results.

-
Absolutly stunning work, DJ. She is really coming along.

-
				LET THERE BE LIGHT!!

At least a basic lightmap, that is.  Just a placeholder.

Also, I'm don the bottom of the nacelles.  Eclipse, I also fixed the emblems on the nacelles.

-
				truly stunning, DJ!!  :D
 *gives cookie*

I'm afraid that when your Galaxy Class is released, mine are gonna be relegated to the scrap heap lol!!
awwww  *hugs Glenn*  yours is beautiful still!!  :)
no worries, mon ami - we all need something for target practice :P  hehe J/K *ducks and runs*
-
Yup.  Even I like this design and usually when he asks me to look at his work I have no real clue what's so special about it.  (I maintain a repertoire of generic responses like "looks dandy" and "nice additions" in my vocabulary).

Thus, I hereby nickname this vessel the USS Awesome
-
I've recently become a Galaxy-class fan thanks to this model.

-
				Getting there folks, getting there.

As you can see, I've started out on the bottom of the saucer, and it's coming along.  I've had quite my fill of aztecing for the day, though.  Then again, that's not so bad when you consider how many lifeboats and windows I'm about to rotate and place by hand individually.  Oh well, after that, the only major part still to do for the exterior body is the bottom of the cobra head.  I'm leaving that to last so that i can ensure everything lines up smoothly between the neck and the saucer.

After all the texturing is done, I will move on to building the battle bridge area which is hidden, and then texturing that as well as the separated saucer indentation.

Oh yeah, and the windows around the saucer rim.  Those are gonna be a pain in the arse.

In other words, even though it looks like things are nearly complete, they really aren't.  It will be a challenge to turn the model into two parts without pooching the mapping, but I'm not worried about it.

 Anyhow, pix.
-
Simply stunning DJ...simply stunning...she looks better and better every day...

-
				And just like that....

 windows and lifeboats!

i think it's bed time now. :arms:
-
Thus, I hereby nickname this vessel the USS Awesome

 how about USS Sam?  :D

(lol ok sorry for spamming, couldnt resist :P)
-
OMG...I just wanna...tear the thing out of my LCD screen and fly it around like it was a toy!! Amazing friggin work DJ..simply stunning..I can't say it enough....

-
i know this is still very preliminary, but i was wondering, are you planning on changing the textures of the bussard collectors?

 Looks amazing btw!
-
My question is, will we be seeing the original glowing buzzard collectors, or have you considered breaking away from canon slightly by animating them much has seen on the BC sovie model?

-
My question is, will we be seeing the original glowing buzzard collectors, or have you considered breaking away from canon slightly by animating them much has seen on the BC sovie model?

I would argue against that, I don't think the Galaxy would look right with animated nacelles.

Superb work DJ, the Galaxy is really coming on quite nicely. I'm glad to see that you included the windows that are just in front of the Captains Yacht, these details are missing on quite a lot of the models that have been released in the past. Also great work on the ventral windows and registry, they look canon and are perfectly positioned too.

 Weldone!!  8)
-
OMG. I have fallen in love the Queen of Starfleet all over again. Excellent work. :D

-
quick idea DJ, have you considered rendering the back of the deflector using VRAY? it should ensure you get the best quality texture.

-
				very VERY cool

-
DJ, mind if I ask which Galaxy model you're using as a reference?  The 6 footer, the 4 footer, or the CGI model used for the ENT finale?

-
I believe he said the 4-footer

-
DJ, mind if I ask which Galaxy model you're using as a reference?  The 6 footer, the 4 footer, or the CGI model used for the ENT finale?

4 foot model with 6 foot textures.
-
*drools* iv always loved this ship, so elegant and majestic and youve made it even more so DJ,  :D

-
Wow.  DJ, I didn't think you'd take me seriously LOL.  I thought you had known that there was a blackish blue outline around the starfleet emblem on the nacelles (even around the Delta shield.).

It's coming along greatly, and as your wife said I do believe this should be named U.S.S. Awesome...or for quirks...USS Spiffy! (sorry Jimmy, USS Sam is taken by me :P USS Samuel Wall ;) still like the cat though lol)
-
I was thinking just the USS GALAXY since this is the epiphany of the Galaxy class vessel.

or maybe the USS CHARLOTTE after Charlottes web since this ship is a lady.

 Looking Beautiful ..
-
dj, something I saw you said in the other thread, about bump mappings.
you wanted to add a realistic bump mapping without actually bump mapping the mesh.
maybe if you edited the specular textures to be around 40/70% grey for the specular itself and reserve strong whites and blacks to place around the bumping effect. that will increase the contrast and give a true looking sharp edge effect.
-
Sorry no updates in a couple of days.  I've been working on the saucer section windows, and I didn't want to post until they were done.  Man was that tedious.  In order to really get them to look good i had to map each horizontal polygon segment individually.  A cylinder map just looked like hell.

Nighthawk--> I'll refer back to your idea if what I've got planned doesn't work out.

FURNACE--> I'll probably do a USS Galaxy at some point anyhow.

eclipse--> I saw the outline there, but I wasn't sure if it was as a result of the illustration I'm working off of, so I checked some screen shots from the show, and it's there.

Rat Boy--> The original intention was to replicate the four foot model, but it has become a blend in every respect.

Mark--> No i hadn't.  The deflector texture is integrated on one big texture with other stuff.

Jay Crimson--> The bussard collectors are a tough thing to get right.  i'm not going to leave them as is.

Anyhow, here's a picture of things right now.  Basically the only stuff left to do on this first round of texturing is the bottom of the cobra head, and the inside vertical faces of the nacelle pylons.  Then it's on to round two... DETAILS!!

-
You know, it's funny, when I set out building this ship, i was trying to match that season 3-7 model, and in a lot of ways, I think I've succeeded.

It's noticeable that that's what you started with when I look at the neck and the deflector dish.  The seasons 3-7 model always rubbed me the wrong way, and this model does so as well.

I will definitely give you props on the nacelles, however.  You've made the most detailed nacelle hull textures I've ever seen!  Very nice work, there.  The underside of the saucer is also very good.  Also, I'm glad to see you've ditched the raised hull panels. :dance

While it won't be replacing my SNS Galaxy Class (which I may replace with the CE Galaxy; I haven't decided yet), it's still a darn nice mesh.
-
Superb work on those windows DJ, look very accurate indeed!!  8)

Sorry no updates in a couple of days.  I've been working on the saucer section windows, and I didn't want to post until they were done.  Man was that tedious.
 Tell me about it!!

One of the things I really hated doing was the Alpha Channels for all 400+ windows on the ship, especially on the dorsal saucer.

Be patient my friend, I think everybody here wants to see the best Galaxy possible!!.

Nice update, keep 'em coming lol  :D
-
				for fun

-
				show off!!! have a cookie

-
mmmm,  delicious.  for the cookie, you get another video. :D

-
In that case, *gives DJ a large cake* :P

Anyway, I like the windows, they are pretty sharp!
-
cool vids but IMO they are a little fast...

-
yeah, i made them fast on purpose so no one could see the shoddy textures. lol

-
There may be an easy way to make the alpha channels, but it depends on the software.. When I made the windows for the CG Sov, they were all duplicates of a large master window texture, shrunk to fit.  I kept all the duplicates as separate objects, and once they were done, I selected them all, then copied and pasted them onto a black texture of the same size.  Then you just alter the brightness/contrast until the windows turn pure white, and you have your light map. :)

-
Since I make my textures in max, alpha channels are simply.  Since the windows are all separate objects, I just make the ones I want turned on, white, and then just hide all other objects and have a black background.  It takes a minute.

-
oooh.. I'll have to start doing that.. hand placing windows gets old fast. :P

-
sounds like u are getting back into the game CG a 2.0 CG Sov would go great with Lints ships i just hope i can have them all in QB at the same time this will truly be a test of my 8800GTS hehe.
 On Topic:
DJ those textures are looking sweet and have another cookie u show off
-
bloody cookie this ship is awesome, cookie for u mate  :D

-
Hey DJ.  I have a question for you.

Are you going to have the collectors glowing inside the red exterior bulb?
I think they're called the "Bussard Collectors"...i think. :D  Not quite sure.

Anyway, I can get them to glow even with a translucent red exterior.

Could look interesting, what do you think?
-
cord is that the best way to get the most cannon looking galaxy bussards, if so itll look sweet on your galaxy DJ, looking foward to seeing more(id give you a cookie if i knew how)

-
Just keeps getting better and better mate....Sweet

-
Update.  i've finished up the basics of the bottom of the cobra head, and also worked out a bunch of smoothing issues on the underside of the saucer.  Also, i'm going to be collaborating with Cordanilus on doing a very special set of bussard collectors for this ship that should really bring it to life.  in the meantime, I've used CE's bussard texture as an interim for the WIP pix.  There's also a few other details on the first round that I've to put, like a few decals and thrusters on the nacelles.

So now it's just the insides of those nacelle pylons, and the first round of texturing is done.  This ship is gonna be just ridiculous once I'm done detailing it in 2008. :D

I've got to say at this point, that I'm really happy with the way this ship is turning out.  when I started the mesh a year ago, I didn't even have the strongest intentions of texturing it, but boy am I glad I decided to.  The Galaxy Class has always been how I benchmark myself.
-
wow dj, im not a big fan of the galaxy class i think its fugly tbh, but that is one impressive model and texture set you've got there mate

-
Whoohoo :dance   This looks even better than in the show :D

It can't get any better than this, great work DJ! 8)
-
				just awesome :D

-
				Looks good.
Do you think about a MVAM feature? (it's no update request)
-
FekLeyr Targ--> Yep.  I'll be doing mvam for this ship.

Adm_willie--> Heh, just wait till you see what's coming for this ship.
-
Great work DJ! This is lookin even more fantastic every time i see it!  :spartasanta:

Another chocolate chip cookie to you ;)

Nice work on those textures DJ, the Galaxy is looking most impressive indeed!!   :D

-
i bet im going to need a new computer to play this, lol, look amazing :D

-
actually I don't think you will.  It's only half the number of polys the Ent F was.  And it has 4 2048x2048 textures as well.  So if you had no problems running the EntF, then this won't be a problem.  i'll also be including 1024 and 512 size maps for older graphics cards as well.

-
you should include model LODs too.
 lower polycount ships.
-
I would, but it would require a lot of remapping for the lower poly models, and the textures aren't really built to fit anything that looks different.  It would probably look so horrible that no one would use them anyhow.

fantastic, it will run veeeery smooth on my notebook :)
-
i can run 1 entF, but i am having a few problems with my cpu at the moment so that might be the reason why, but from what youve said i should be able to run your ship, not sure about 2048X2048, but most defiently the lower res textures

-
DJ, we all know you took a trip to the 24th century and took a photo of a real Galaxy class from a shuttle pod and are posting them here.  J/K  :P  This is by far the best model of a Galaxy class ever made for BC.  Excellent job bro!

-
If CBS/Paramount ever decided to remaster TNG in anyway, they would have to give you a call.

 Excelente trabajo. Tiene una cookie.
(LOL, Spanish is awesome  :spartasanta: )
-
If you need someone to betatest her, let me know ;)

-
The same here, if you do seek testers. Important people try shooting her hull to see if she damages properly etc, have nothing better to do myself anyway. Hey, I can try asking. ;)

I'm also down for testing if requiered. I have much experience in testing (DS9FX, Slipstream and Galaxy Charts) and look (as always ;) ) forward to it.

 @Billz: I agree.

Oh if you have spot for testing please think of me lol.
btw I have a low end pc and old and it can run the f with 1024's.

				No

-
Yeah. But I try to use spanish anywhere I can. Helps me to practice. LOL.

Anyway, great looking ship DJ. Ive got the cookie torpedos on standy when its finally released. LOL.
-
You guys know I'm from Canada, right?  lol

Really?  Could have sworn you were British.
-
lemme guess, my accent, right? :D

-
				eh?  :P

lol ok we should try and go back on topic methinks :)
-
Really?  Could have sworn you were British.

I'll take that as a compliment to all Brits :D!

Anyway, like Jimmy said, back on topic  :arms:!

This looks truly awesome DJ! If only you were British :P!
-
*sigh* I wish BC supported normal maps.

Just for fun, I made up a normal map for the bottom of the saucer.  I think I'll do bump maps for the whole thing once it's done, so that I can make some sweet animations and pix.

Anyhow, here's a couple shots of it.

*edit*  added three more.  i got hungry for more bumps, so I did the whole thing. :D
-
This will go very nicely in NanoFX GE when it's done :D

The bumpmapping really brings out the detail in the model, no doubt about it. Even in its unfinished state, I say this ship looks Better then the SNS Galaxy.
-
I think that's another modder of the month comming up. Or of the year perhaps. :P

Your Enterprise-F (Century class) for original elements and originally as a whole.
Your Enterprise-D (Galaxy class) for overall gorgeousness.
-
I must agree with Jay. Mark if your are reading this go for a modder of the year i believe DJ will win hands down. In fact u big showoff have another cookie

-
Or perhaps we'll this version of the galaxy in Star Trek Online. :P

          where's my jaw... I must have droped it somewhere  this is outstanding DJ

-
				Absolutely stunning!!

DJ, you've really got to keep those bumped textures in the final release. They look Phenomenal!!

 It's cookie time!!  8)  8)
-
I wish I could, unfortunately, BC doesn't support normals.  I'm going to try work something out, though.

-
Please save the bumpmaps so I can use them for a NanoFX GE conversion :D

Even if GE is a mere engine atm, i'm sure it can do your ship justice the way it's meant to be seen ;)
-
I wish I could, unfortunately, BC doesn't support normals.  I'm going to try work something out, though.

I use both CorelDraw and Photoshop to make LCARS and starship textures. It has a nifty facility which allows you to actually give a bump-map effect to the textures. If you would like I could bump map your Galaxy textures for you DJ!?  :D
-
I'll remember that.  When the textures are finished, if I can't get a satisfying result, then I'll get a hold of you.

-
OMG DJ you need to make some desktops with that thing.

-
please dont give him any more smart ideas. I dont know how many more cookies i can give him. Besides hes probably gaining weight eating so many and i dont want to gain the attention of his wife (runs for cover)

DJ u are building a magnificent piece of art. I cant wait to fly her.
-
well, dont worry too much about the cookies guys, I'm already fat.  lol

-
OMG DJ you need to make some desktops with that thing.

He has.  Albeit, it's a rather *exclusive* release.   8)

Besides hes probably gaining weight eating so many and i dont want to gain the attention of his wife (runs for cover)

Eh?  The cookies keep him docile... and thus, compliant.
-
Well I guess I do have one lol I'm using one of those pics two.
And how can you just have 9 icons I'm starting my 4th row.
-
Those pics are simply amazing.  Very High quality. :D

-
well, dont worry too much about the cookies guys, I'm already fat.  lol

but these are the mary jane cookies ;) :D
-
Uhm, Jimmy aren't those supposed to go in Brownies LOL

DJ, back on topic, I love the bumps...They fit this version of the galaxy better than the SNS LOL.
-
				Good work so far DJ!

I can't wait to see it in my engine, the Galaxy class is my favorite ship and currently the SNS Galaxy is my favorite model!

I was wondering if you were done work on the Secondary Hull... I see a few problems... it seems to be too narrow in Width, so the Deflector Dish looks a bit too tall in height.  Also the Main Impulse Engine looks way to short in Height as well, looking very thin.

Anyways, here is a pic of the SNS Galaxy in NanoFX GE, I'd really like to see your model surpass the SNS!

-
I think that's because he's basing it off the 4' model and not the 6' which the SNS is based off of.  the 4 footer looks almost exactly like DJ's model.

Oh and good to see you posting here Nano!
-
wow!!  welcome to BCC, Nano!!  :D

-

remember that perspective can fool you.
if he's basing the ship off cannon blueprints, that I'd say its ok.

also, 'bout time you come back since BCU lol!
-
Thanx for the warm welcome guys.  It's possible.......... I do have the SNS Galaxy etched into my head so I'm not used to seeing the variant Season 3+ Model.

The perspective may be off too... depending on the aspect ratio of the renderer in his screenshots, it could be making it appear off to me.  Hard to say...

OK OK... I just looked at some Season 3 Screens and it is quite a bit different... DJ you are doing a great job on it so far!

Sorry I can be a little anal with the Galaxy, only because it's my favorite ship :)
-
HAHA, Nano you've been here less than 24 hours and got more cookies than posts :P

-
In terms of the actual shape, I built the ship precisely to the schematics found in the ST:TNG technical manual, so it should be fairly accurate in that regard.  If the secondary hull's too thin, it's by a hair.  But I think I know what you mean, it's very different from the SNS.

-
HAHA, Nano you've been here less than 24 hours and got more cookies than posts :P

because Nano is a legend as far as BC is concerned :)

-
The man's collecting cookies faster than a frat boy collects std's.

-
LMAO.... mmmm cookies good....  STD's bad....

Holy do I feel like a noob... what are the cookies for on this forum and how do you give them??

Anyways... so I don't get off topic and banned in this thread, I have the TNG Technical Manual, but it's been years since I've looked at, but the more I look at the pics you've posted DJ, you are pretty close!

If by a hair you mean because of the big thick lines they used for the outline in the schematics.... I could see how that might happen!

I don't think I realized the shape differences between the Season one Galaxy and Season 3.  I just thought it was a smaller version, yet more detailed (that's what they said at least)

				i thought the same,
I have TNG Enterprise D blueprints, and in the little booklet that comes with it they go into deep detail about designing the Ent D, down the the phaser strips, and out of the 3 models they built the only difference was minor details like escape pods etc, and the actual physical size of all 3,
But DJ's still looks awesome, none the less :)
-
there were definite differences.  the 4ft model had raised panels, a different deflector, shape changes to the neckm and the spine was different.  the color also became greyish hues rather than green and blue.  Also, the secondary hull was a bit narrower and taller.  Overall, the ship just had a more staunch look to it.  Oh yeah, and the port nacelle was pointed a bit down, but i took some artistic license and fixed that. lol

no worries - you have to have a certain amount of posts (200 i think?) before you are able to give cookies to people...  so hurry up and get posting :P

Thanks Judge King for the ship names!

I thought the galaxy class crew compliment was 1,025?
-
In 2366 the Enterprise-D had a crew compliment of 1,014 (officers, crewmembers and family members). I'm sure the number varies depending on the amount of family members on board the ship. And if i'm not mistaken, in the "Yesterdays Enterprise" episode, Tasha mentioned the ship was capable of transporting at least 6,000 troops. So we know the Galaxy class can hold alot of people :P

 Back on topic mee-sa thinks.
-
I've got the ST:TNG tech manual.  I know everything there is to know about a Galaxy Class starship. lol

-
Hey DJ...I was wondering about page 128.  Is the Saucer Module launcher going to be there?, and where does it go exactly since there's no side view from what I can see.

Is there a way you can make that bumpmap part of the texture.  Like fake-bump-mapping.  I think it would be awesome, even if it's just for me.  That's my only request. :D
-
The saucer module will have the aft torpedo launcher when it separates.

I'm gonna see about the bump mapping.  Fake bump mapping usually looks like hell, if you ask me, but I'll see.

 Your both wrong...  :spartasanta:

The Enterprise-D had a crew complement of 1,014 personnel.

I'm gonna see about the bump mapping.
Just give the word DJ!!

-
Don't fret, we'll have real bump maps in NanoFX GE! :)

DJ, you're getting my first cookie.  Now, It took me a while to bake them so you better enjoy it, lol.
I think we're going to make you nice and plump so you can't go anywhere :D

 Ok, enough spamming.

Fake bump mapping usually looks like hell, if you ask me, but I'll see. I'm hoping that the texture size will make it viewable.  I figure smaller size textures may obscure the look.
I'm just looking to make an awesome video here. :D

Sorry, my bad. Iwas using the Star Trek: Bridge Commander crew number.
-
Looking at all the mods released for bridge commander thus far... ESPECIALLY the mods recently released such as the Century and Neghvar... it's amazing how far this game has come from what it once was. DJ Curtis, your Galaxy is breathtaking! Possibly the most stunning model I've seen to date. Keep up the good work; I look forward to seeing what more is in store here. :D

-
The Galaxy is a lady of beauty and DJ's Galaxy truely is going to do it justice.

				hey DJ
ever thought about making an Galaxy X model?
Definately would be cool and the only available one needs a facelift
 so...?
 just as an Idea...

I beleive that DJ has already stated that he will not be doing that with his Galaxy Class, either in this thread or in the now closed topic in the thread in the Excalibur forum.
-
Hrmm never liked the Galaxy-X. It felt like having a fine classic car and cutting the hood open to ramp a hotrod engine and some engine pipes into it's hull.

-

There is an "SNS Galaxy" kitbash floating around BCFiles somewhere that looks pretty decent. Although i'm not a fan of the Galaxy-X. The 3rd nacelle and the "uber phaser" seamed a bit overkill to me, and ruined the overall look of the Galaxy class.
-
				Blech, no Galaxy X.

Great job on this DJ, your ships are fantastic.
-
we can argue till we're blue in the face about the galaxy x, some of us like it, some dont,
But i have said it before and ill say it again, Great Work DJ,
your prolly sick of hearing that by now,
-
k, when he said he wont do, ignore my post ;)
I will search that sns model and look what it looks like...
-
yeah, as I said before, there won't be a galaxy-X of this ship, that I will make.  I will be doing a USS Venture, however.

Btw, I got a PM wondering about the availability of this ship, and I don't expect it to be available until probably summer 2008.
-
Those are some lovely bump-maps. What model of the Galaxy are you referencing? The Yamoto / Odyssey in DS9?

-
ok ive deleted the last dozen or so posts - guys please stop going offtopic...
this is not a discussion thread about the galaxy-x...
and do not ask for updates, screenshots of latest updates, or anything to the sort!

any person to bother DJ anymore (on the forum or in a PM or anywhere here) asking for an update or any screenshots of anything he has done lately - or anything remotely close to that, will be considered for a ban...

i am going to now ask that NO ONE but DJ have the next post in this thread after this one...

				Thanks Jimmy.

I've got an update, but I wasn't able to post it before leaving the city.  I'll be home tomorrow, at which time I'll post some pix.  Basically, I've just finished up the loose ends of the first round of texturing.  I fixed some reversed registries, finished the spine, changed the deflector color, and did the insides of the nacelle pylons.  I also added the starfleet emblem at the bottom of the ship.  So as of right now, the whole project is probably in the area of 60% complete.

As far as the deflector color goes, I changed it to a crimson color for both the deflector dish and the deflector housing.  I found a screencap from Best of Both Worlds that clearly shows, in direct clean light, that on televesion, the dish appeared red, not copper.  I also found that the ships alternating panels have a very slight green hue, so I've added that as well.  It looks really sharp if you ask me.  I also added a ribbing texture to the phaser arrays.

My next step is to begin working on the ship's cobra head.  I've got the shape already cut out on the bottom of the saucer, so building and texturing the top part of it will be the bulk of the work.  In addition, I'll probably end up re-mapping a bunch of textures in those areas, but that shouldn't be a big problem.  As I've said before, this ship will have saucer seperation, it just wouldn't be complete without it.  IMO, it's worth waiting for.  I'll have someone in the know brief me on how to use FTech to do so.

As far as a BC release date goes for this mod, my goal is for summer 2008, though it might be earlier.
-
Thank you for the update, i look forward to seeing your work.

-
Hurah.. i was waiting for dj to post so i could finally ask a question lol.

1st awsome model man..  i love what you have done so far,

2nd ur bump mapping looks sweet but i think it doesnt work too well around the port holes..  can i ask what texture sizes your using?

3rd keep up the great work, if people like you did not keep raising the bar the rest of us would have nothing to aspire to be.

 great work !!!  :)
-
if you need help with any tedius stuff IE tac icon arc placement or some hardpointing help even if all I do is set the phasers which can be really annoying if it will speed things up for yea than great.

-
				thanks for the offer starforce.

-
wow DJ, your statement for the release shows how much time you invest to make it perfect, both thumbs up!
I didn't want to start all the rage just because of the galaxy x, just thought it was part of ST.
It destroys the beauty of the Galaxy, no doubt, but it was a simple question which led to an overheated discussion.

 So.. what to say more?
 nothing I think...
 GREAT
-
				FTech?!?

Wouldn't MVAM 2.0 be better suited for ship seperation?

Loving the work that has been put into this.

Even though my card is high end, this ship is sure to give it a heart attack. It will be worth it.  :D

ehm, DJ's aim was set very low, I think it was lower than the enterprise f, correct me if I'm wrong.
And when your card is high end, this beauty wont give your card a hart attack
-
Sounds top-notch. Cool to know that your following cannon specifications with such intricate detail. I look forward to the pics you plan to post. In the mean time, keep up the excellent work.

 great work !!!  :)

Ah, now that you point that out, I'd like to say, then...
It was, indeed, Dj's excellent Century and Vivance that inspired me to actually delve into creating content for this game, and actually join the community. Hence, my very first attempt at 3d modeling (The Mithra), started at the beginning of this month. So, certainly, two thumbs up for DJ. ^_^

 -Aeries.
-
As promised, here are the pix of the ship as it stands...

Aeries-->Nice to know my work is driving new talent.

About Separation--> My bad, I thought that FTech was capable of doing saucer separations, I guess it's only for moving parts?  What ever I need to use I will.

Also, as far as the ship goes performance wise, it's only about 12K with 2048 textures.  As with Enterprise F, it will come with lower res textures as well.

Can someone also please remind me later on to make sure I release this ship with blank textures.

btw, don't mind the faint line down the center of the ship, that's just because the two halves aren't welded together.
-
Can someone also please remind me later on to make sure I release this ship with blank textures.

Hey DJ, release this with blank textures. :P

Edit: Simply beautiful... only 12k? Darn... I ought to really start working on reducing the Mithra's poly count somehow... Great work for such low poly count!
-
My complements on a beautiful ship DJ. The deflector textures look a lot better now too, I can't wait to see this baby in-game. :)

Work of the highest calibre, this is already my tip for mod of the year 2008!!  8)

-
Can only agree with Glenn here, this is a absolut wonderful piece of work :D

-
getting started on the cobra head.

-
Can someone also please remind me later on to make sure I release this ship with blank textures.

Reminder: Release Blanks for Galaxy.  :arms: But how about those for the Century?
-
Here's an update on the cobra head.

-
awsome piece of modelling on display, looks sweet as a nut and the mesh looks fantastic, smooth, clean and sharp  8)

-
				thanks asylum.

 and with that....

-
Will this (these) model(s) be seamless, unlike the CE Galaxy? I must admit that while I didn't always notice it... that little line along the aft edge of the cobra head really drove me nuts when I DID notice it. (Not meaning to bash the CE Galaxy, as I did like it a fair bit. :) )

-
 that is just so perfect.

the modelling gone into this is amazing, i cant wait to get my hands on it, i dont even play games, i just want to examine that mesh and learn how you did the neck & saucer rims so well, they flow amazingly, oh and the deflector too.. the galaxy class has to be one of the hardest models to build, a fair few have been done, and most people would be put off doing one, not only because of the difficulty level but also because making one better than what is already out there must be a B@tch :?

Needless to say you are pulling it off nicely, and it looks amazing.. when ur done i'll invite you out for a beer, you bring ur lappy and i'll bring my flash drive.. and u may let me steal the .max file from you  8)

Keep up the great work. and thanks for contributing.
-
Asylum--> Galaxy is tough to make look right.  no doubt about it.  This is the latest of many incarnations I've made.

Aeries--> Yes, the model is perfectly seamless.  Every vertex lines up, and there are no mesh errors at all.

I've also been looking at screenshots again, and the lifeboats have a very slight yellowish tinge to them, so I've added that.  I've also welded the model from about 50 pieces into 2, the saucer section and the drive section.  So there should be no smoothing errors anymore.  I've corrected all of them I think since last time I posted.
-
				Absolutely awesome work there DJ!

-
				ehm...wow.
I'm speechless... as always when I see your screenshots :D
And when you say 12k, that makes me even happier^^
-
				nice work DJ ;)

-
				I'm in love

-
wow, tv quality galaxy, gimme gimme gimme lol  :D

-
				Wow just wow...

The more I see, the more my jaw drops at how beautiful it is.
-
Yes, the model is perfectly seamless.  Every vertex lines up, and there are no mesh errors at all.

 Excellent!
I eagerly await her release! :D
-
 This is the Galaxy all waited for the last years, excellent work :D

-
				awesome!!

-
Amazing work DJ, this version of the E-D model wasnt built to seperate so this really is something original. Cant wait to see how it develop's...

-
If only I had this sucker now.  With the right registries, the separated version would be perfect for the cover of the first story in my new fan fic series.

-
				update time.

textures for the top of the cobra head are almost done.  I'm having trouble getting good references for the saucer indentation though.  Neb helped me out, but screencaps are pretty blurry.  If anyone has a good picture or diagram of that area, please post it.

-
Great! You made me drool all over my new shirt, way to go! Yeash...

Lmao, looking good Dj. Keep it up.

 *walks off to change*

Unfortunately, getting anything better than the screencaps from the DVDs is going to be a bear.  Unfortunately, because the original effects for TNG were filmed then later composited over to video, they're not going to be as good as a straight film to HD, which is probably why the people at CBS are seriously considering doing the TOS-R treatment for all the FX for TNG once they get around to it.
-
if anyone has an old amt/ertl kit, could they take a picture of that saucer undercut and then post it here.

-
Great vid DJ! Just don't forget to have the saucer impulse engines lit when it's seperated - it looked like they were off.

-
Take note, though, that none of the windows were lit, either. The impulse engine glow will be added later on with the windows, I'd imagine. But I can't speak for DJ, so... I'll hush now. :X

-
				absolutly amazing!

 No probs DJ  :D

To get the best resolution I managed to stick it in my scanner but in fairness there is not a lot of detail on the saucer indent. I also apologise for the state of the model, I've had it for 10+ years and I had to stick the two ship parts together using sticky tack because the bloody thing wouldn't fit right in the first place!!  :argh:

Anyways I hope it helps you out, for the blank sections I would fill in the gaps with detail from the cobra head of the stardrive. For instance, inverting the escape pod textures to create an indent would be logical.

Good luck with the textures (not that you'll need it!!).

 Regards

 Glenn
 CE  :)
-
				thanks all you guys.

mayhemuk--> I appreciate it.  Neb sent those too, but there's one in there I forgot to look at, so thanks.

glenn--> that will make things much easier.  cheers!

serverandenforcer--> They're still of because technically speaking I'm still working with the model that will be unified.

aeries--> you're right, all the windows are currently textured just black.  that'll change.
-
WHOA DJ please get on WLM there is a pic you missed you must see.

-
				update.

I've made numerous changes to the model since last time.

 1) Pretty drastic change to the main impulse engine.  I studied some screen-caps very closely, and I've made the engine taller, stick further out, and slightly wider at the base.

 2) Changed the battle-bridge area. (Thanks Neb)

 3) textures added to the main bridge.

 4) Made the escape hatches a touch yellow.

 5) changed the nacelle grill texture to be brighter when lit up.

 6) moved the drive section rim windows forward.  They were too far back.

 7) changed the phaser array colour to a warmer shade of gray.  much more accurate now.

 8) textured the saucer indentation for when the ship is separated.  There are virtually no good references of what's there, so I decided to put in what I could figure out, and then mirror some details from the cobra head, so that it won't look empty.

 9) a bunch of other minor texture changes and re-mappings.
-
				sweet!

-
				Simply, beautiful. :D

-
				Awesome ;)

-
Ok, what kinda bugs me and this is a slight nitpick, the 6' model the half-docking clamps didn't raise, and there weren't any half-docking clamp indentations on the saucer either.  You can sight the link for Encounter At Farpoint as a reference...

I know it's included in the tech manual though.  Why they did that and not on the model itself is beyond me.

EDIT:  Other than that it looks great :)

You do realize that this model is primarily based on the later seasons model (season 4 and forward) ?

Model looks great DJ. I am continuously impressed by the level of detail your putting into this girl. The Galaxy class has always been my favorite canon design, and i'm glad that it's finally getting the full treatment. I liked the later seasons model a lot better then the early model.
-
awsome man, has anybody thought about taking screenies off of ST: Generations

allot of solo saucer action there, u may get some good shots  :)
-
If you wanna make sttng Hardpoints for your Galaxy, I recommend to use one of these torpedoes.

WHICH didn't seperate unlike the 6' and 2' models...I'm saying it bugged me, that's all.  I like the work he's putting into it :)

JB06:  I'm not sure I understand what you're talking about, how will textures up the polies???

 On Topic now...

DJ, I cannot wait till this baby comes out :) even if it fries my PC.
-
well, either way, this one separates.

 as you can see... :D

-
Good little beauty pass there DJ :D The more I look at this baby the more i wish time would go faster till the release date LOL

-
Nice work on the separate ship sections DJ, both the model and the textures are looking very tidy.

I really like tweaks you've made to make the ship look even more canon to the show, but be sure not to forget that the Saucer Impulse Engines need to be lit up when the ship has separated. Still it's early days yet.

Quality workmanship as always, I can't wait to see her leave drydock!!  :D
-
Somebody totally needs to set that video to that track from "Encounter at Farpoint."

-
				"when cameras attack"

 nice work dj :P
-
wow your galaxy is totally awsome, DJ, :D woot woot

-
				  stunning

-
DARN YOU, DJ! This is the SECOND time I must change my shirt as the result of drool! RAWR!

 (Joke, joke... :P)
-
As always looking good,  Cant wait to take her for a spin.

-
I hope that I won't crash into Veridian 3's surface.
*recreates 11001001 and steals DJ's Galaxy from drydock* ;)
-
				Hi,
first i wanna say- you did a great job!

My question: When is the galaxy ready to down load?

 i can"t wait for it :P

-
It will be ready when its ready :p

until then this is looking... awesome DJ *runs out to get encounter at farpoint soundtrack *
-
@adama2: thats a rude question which modders dont like to hear.
as ufdf delta already said, it will be available when its ready...
And DJ Said his goal is Summer 08
-
ok, sorry is my silly mistake  :(

but nevertheless is this ship incredible glamorously
-
no hard feelings.  glad you like it.

-
again DJ mate, im not a fan of the galaxy class but thats a superb mesh and texture set :) dont envy you on the windows though picking which should be lit and what not :p

-
well, it shouldn't take me too long.  It helps that I make my textures in max, it's a pretty quick thing to do.

-
This is getting better and better the more I look at this thread....DJ, if I could give you six dozen cookies I would LOL

-
				textures in max..?   :arms:

 hmmm trade secret..     LOL...

great work man, im really looking forward to the final outcome  8)

heh, not a secret at all.  It's just that a couple years ago, I knew how to model, but not texture.  I've never been good with photoshop, and didn't want to spend the time learning.  On top of that, at that time it was impossible to find dedicated texture makers.  So I just went with what I knew, and figure out a way to simply model the textures as well.  The part that I really like about it is that mapping is very easy and very precise, because you can make the textures directly over the faces that you want to apply them to.  I simply detach what I want to texture, flatten it with an FFD, and voila, I have my guide.

-
You should make a tutorial for that 'cause I'm trying to texture my stuff right now and the programs that I'm using are giving me a headache.

-
I've done up bump, glow, and specular maps and applied them all.  This should give a fair approximation of how the ship will look in NanoFX GE.  I'm very pleased with the results.

-
				ou...
what a pitty my crappy notebook wont play nanofx GE...
I'll have to visit my grandpa more oftne lol^^
 looks fantastic as every screen.
Though I think (of every Galaxy Model) that this first screen looks strange, it looks like such a massive saucer... dont know...
-
				HOLY SH**!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dj. I'm truely impressed. This is amazing work. I can't wait to get to the rank of Captain, so I can finally give you a darn cookie!!! >:D

Can't wait to say you take a crack at the Venture.
-
I'll be doing the Venture.  Don't worry about that.

Now, onto some in game shots.  Mostly just comparison shots of my Galaxy next to the SNS and CE Galaxy's.

Comments and suggestions are both welcome.

More to come soon, except I've got fix the ship's orientation and crank up my graphics card settings.
-
Interesting.  I was doing some pics of the SNS Venture for my latest fan fic project; I guess I'll hold off on doing covers until this summer.

-
Here we go.  Some good quality shots with full AA and AF, etc.

I think I'm gonna submit one of these for potd at bcfiles. :D
-
				And a few more.

-
Sadly it looks like you are going to retire my SNS Galaxy :(

But that's good!  I never thought I'd love another Galaxy

Come online and we'll talk about making some NanoFX Pics with her if ya want!
-
Amazing work. I'm not entirely sure I could suggest anything at all for this. :/

-
AWESOME is the only word that describes it
wish i could model texture that good :deadimage
 :dancebig

thats looking amazing, i reckon pic 4.jpg and 5.jpg would make great ptods, aww man i cant wait for your galaxy  :D

great model but i have to nitpick on the textures.
they look somewhat strange...it might be the lack of speculars why your ship looks like it's made out of plastic....  :?

Awesome but catch me online please... found something you might want to fix

After all the bad stuff (http://www.trekbbs.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=8427221&page=0&fpart=1&vc=1) I've gone through over the last couple of days, seeing how well this is turning out is a welcoming breath of fresh air.

I have to disagree with both of these opinions.

I totally understand what both of you are getting at but, because of the limitations to BC's rendering engine, there's only so much that can be done to bring true realism to any ship mod. Remember, the game is already nearly 6 years old.

Also, I'm sure DJ is going to squeeze as much of that realism as is possible out of BC's engine.

 DJ, beautiful... just beautiful.

Look at 8.jpg again. If you don't see the speculars, I suggest an eye examination. Even if it didn't have speculars, i'd still suggest an eye examination, cause this is by far the best looking Galaxy class yet.

After it's been released, you could always make your own textures if your not happy with DJ's hard work.

I never tried do bring down DJ's great work. But you have to admit that the Speculars are not half as visible as on the SNS Galaxy. That's what causing it to look like plastic. With more visible Speculars it would get a more metallic and therefore a more realistic look.  8)

Maybe you have a different opinion but as we are living in democracies it is not necessary for everybody to have the same opinion on something.  :)
-
Everybody's entitled to an opinion, good or bad!!  :)

 My opinion is this...

I've been waiting to see the DJ Galaxy in-game for a long while now and I have to say that I'm not disappointed one bit!!. The model is flawless and the textures for the most part are clean and crisp and very accurate also.

Folks please bear in mind that DJ has modelled his Galaxy on the seasons 3-7 4" studio model so it's gonna look a lot different both in terms of the model and the textures compared to the SNS Galaxy.

To say I'm impressed with this would be an understatement, the ship looks fantastic in-game and I can't wait to download this baby once it's available!!.

There is a couple of things you might wish to change DJ, and that is the glows on the Bridge Dome it seems way to big to me, and I would maybe desaturate the bussard collectors a bit also.

Great work though DJ, your eightieth cookie is coming your way!!  8)
-

As I said in my above post the textures that DJ has modded are based on the Enterprise-D model from seasons 3-7 so the textures will be different.

For instance the SNS Galaxy had textures which were based on the Generations Galaxy Model which were a lot more detailed because original 6" model was re-painted for Generations.

I've modded and re-modded the Galaxy Class recently, and I have to say the textures are excellent and also accurate and I don't think many people could have done a better job, including me!!  :P
-
Glenn, I gotta say that you took the words right outta' my lil' brain. ^.^ Can't wait to get to Captain, so I can give cookies. Chocolate Chip... with a nice cup o' tea.

I must agree to a limited extent that the bussard collectors could be toned down a slight notch, as they are a tad overpowering. Though when I googled the Enterprise D, they all did have a rather powerful red glow about them... but i suppose that depends on the pic, too, as some were really dull and others totally deeeeeeep red. :/

I still love this Galaxy, though. I think she deserves every second of her spotlight. :D

 -Aeries.
-
I think you guys are right about the bussard collectors.  In the show, they had kind of a marbled look to them on screen.  On the 4ft model, the two actual collectors behind the glass were not showing, but I'm having a hard time, not replicating the marbling, but mapping it properly because of the unusual shape of the caps.

Glenn, I think you're also right about the bridge dome.  I'll fix that too.  You're also right in saying that there are a lot of differences between this and the generations galaxy.  The paint job (which wasn't so much a paint job as an application of many, many layers of materials) was totally different, even windows were in different places and of different shapes.  So in a way, it's really like comparing apples and oranges, though I've tried to incorporate some of the best aspects of that ship.  Frankly, I like the series paint job a lot better.

That being said, this ship probably won't see release in BC until summer time, and the reason for that is that there's still a lot more detailing to come.  When i woke up yesterday, I had no intention of putting the ship in game, but I did because my curiosity got the better of me.  I have yet to texture a great many small panels and lines, etc.  You'll notice that areas like the bottom of the cobra head are actually still quite plain.  I'm well aware that this ship isn't as detailed as the the SNS yet.

As far as speculars go.... well, they're there, and they're pretty strong.  Perhaps I just didn't include a picture that shows them at full strength.  If you need proof, just have a look below.

Also, I'm not really sure what's meant by the hull looking like plastic, or artificial.  I'm not offended by this, I just don't see it.  It looks as metallic to me as any other ship in BC.  Keep in mind that specularity wasn't a huge part of the shows composite special effects shots, the ship was usually pretty well evenly lighted as the typically used three point lighting.  Anyhow, some explanation would be appreciated, because I just don't see it.  Maybe I'm missing something?

Neb, I'll catch you on WLM.

As for the rest of you, I'm glad you like how the ship's shaping up.

-
I think the plastic comment might have something to do with the fact that the textures in certain areas (particularly at the rear of the neck) don't have a lot of detail on it yet.  Also, it could have something to do with the lighted windows being just a single color, but that could just be because you haven't gotten around to adding detail to them just yet.

-
this truly is a beautiful ship youve made dj. i dont usually play as the galaxy class, but once this girls out, i think ill be hooked. i have a question about the ship when it seperates. do the saucer impulse engines activate after separation? i cant tell from the recent screenshots, but i believe they are suppose to have that red glow, just like the central main engine. other than that, all i can says is "wicked"!

-
yes.  the saucer engines will be activated when the ship separates.

-
This has been fun to watch and read to see how it is developing.  It looks great.  I like to see constructive criticism received so well on the forums.  I have to admit that I saw the same thing on my first look, a slightly plastic-y look to the ship.  I think it is most noticeable on pictures numbered 15 and 13 on page 8.  Two particular features that made me think so were the edges of the ship, as they look so rounded, and in the deflector grid and raised hull plating along the entire ship's hull.  They have an almost plastic-molded (rounded) look to them.  I had one of the Galaxy plastic model kits that were pictured here, and I have to say it looked slightly similar.

Does that make sense?  I hope so.  It may also be exactly what you stated already - that detail is missing which will be incorporated later on, making this type of rounded textures seem less apparent.

All the same, amazing work and effort - a feat that many of us could only dream of doing.
-
Addendum to my post above ^^.

The plastic/rounded look of the deflector grid and windows was not really visible at all in the in-game screenshots you posted.  Only in the shots with the total black background that you had posted prior.  The edges of the hull did still appear rounded in the in-game shots, but without the grid pattern, it looks much less like plastic and more like a smooth painted surface in-game.
-
Don't blame DJ for the plastic look, Blame BC!  The way DJ has set up the textures is the way it has to be done for advanced rendering as you can see in his pre-rendered screenshots with the Bump-Mapping.  DJ could add more detail to the textures for BC but that's just faking it so it looks better in BC.  I'm sure if he wants to, he can do that for the BC Mod when he releases it.

His approximation of how it will look in the NanoFX Game Engine shows you guys it's a BC issue not his model/textures.
-
If only they would release an updated game engine for BC...... I can still dream !!!

In part, that's what NanoFX GE (and Excalibur) is about. I suggest a visit to www.nanofx.org or www.stexcalibur.com for more information.
-
NanoFX GE is not meant for BC.
They built that GE for game-developers to use.

@Topic: tbower was right. I looked at the Screenshots again and i have to admit that the spots that botherd me on that textures of DJ's were those edges. With the last details added, this could change. ;)
-
Dude i hope your not telling DT that about Nano FX GE.

The guy more than knows what Nano FX GE is ment to do.

Anyway the Galaxy class looks fantastic, and i can't wait to have her in game.

By "they" your referring to a single person: Nanobyte. Lost_Jedi is also involved in coding the project, but Nano is the leader behind it. I'd really suggest you get your facts straight before claiming to know what's really going on. Excalibur (which will be the first project developed on the NanoFX GE engine) will have very similar gameplay to that of Bridge Commander, with highly increased visuals compared to both Bridge Commander and Legacy. Check our site for the latest update on the graphics from Nano, and keep in mind that it's still very early in development. Excalibur will have both the tactical controls of Bridge Commander, as well as certain FPS element found in games like Elite Force. Lost_Jedi can clarify this part better than I, as the entire FPS structure of the engine is done by him.

On Topic: Yes, the Galaxy class does look fantastic, and it will be really great when it's ready for use both in BC and NanoFX GE/Excalibur. DJ's Galaxy will likely be the "stock" model of Excalibur :P
-
Of course "Excalibur" will be using the NanoFX GE and it will be similar to BC but you said that the GE is about to be implemented into BC, what definately IS a wrong fact.

Now let's put that aside and focus on the Galaxy again. ;)

-
Looking great. I think this migiht even be better than the Century class. Looks like it came straight from ST:Generations.

-
LOL it's not supposed to look like generations galaxy so that could be classed as an insult :P

I've NEVER said that NanoFX GE is to be implemented in BC. I've been saying quite the contrary. Alot of people early on that NanoFX GE was intended for BC which I have adamently saying it was not. Don't know where you got the impression that I had said it was for BC cause that is definitely mis-information.
-
Ok guys enough about NanoFX GE in this thread please, let's talk about DJ's awesome ship, the one that will be my new Test Ship when I code and a cool ship to have in BC!!!! :)

It's very nice, but I don't see much difference from CE's Galaxy. I am sure this thing will look absolutely amazing in Excalibur, but BC's limits have been reached as far as texture. Unless this offers some crazy hardpoint change, I am fine with what I have. However, this is being built with Excalibur in mind, so once the game becomes available, DJ's will blow all the others out of the water.

However, she's a beautiful model. I hope you will make a Venture variant to go along with her, and I might just indeed replace CE's pack with her.

CE's Galaxy looks really good. However it is still based on the P81 Galaxy which pretty much all of us know aint no picknick of a model. It's got its fair shares of flaws and inaccuracies. DJs Galaxy will be released both for BC and with Excalibur so I wouldn't worry.
-
It's very nice, but I don't see much difference from CE's Galaxy.

The overall shape of the secondary hull is similar, but DJ's model is simply one of the best ever made for BC and any other Star Trek game for that matter. I'm also really liking his work with the textures which are precisely mapped to the model giving it a nice clean look. It's good to see a Galaxy that looks and feels original.

It's a quality piece of work, hats off to DJ for this latest masterpiece.  :)
-
Love your signature CE... That's the kind of graphics we should have when Excalibur is finished :D

It's nice to have my favorite shipbuilder's sponsorship of the new ship. To be honest I am not an absolute stickler for detail so I don't even notice the inaccuracies of your model. But you are right that his textures are spot on (and probably a lot easier to manage--I hate wrapping).

At the very least I will still be using your Venture refit. Until I downloaded your models, the Galaxy was one of my least favorite ships. Now it's my favorite :D.
-
Just a brief update.  Neb got in touch with me and pointed out a few areas that needed some tweaking.  Since then, I've added the rear sensor strip, the observation lounge windows, and a few missing decals.

Here is an ingame comparison pic of my ship (before the latest changes) compared with what is currently available.  I chose to compare with CE's SNS/p81 because it has a more similar body style.

-
				Excellent! :D

-
Wow... this ship is looking beautiful. and I for one am loving it more and more with each new pic.
This is definately shaping up to be THE galaxy class of choice.  #loveFFX#

heh, look who's looking out the window! :D  not that you'll ever notice it in the game, but it's a nice little inside joke.  Which reminds me, this ship still needs a bumper sticker.  I'll have to take care of that. :D

Nice work DJ, I'm loving the bumper sticker too!!  8)

I always thought that window was on the front edge of the bridge module, but that is awesome (and you're probably right)

After doing a mental map of the Ready Room in my head, the window does face backward. I'm sure in the show they had anomalies facing forward by accident, but as far as geographical location that's correct.
-
I know it may be too early to find out, but since it never hurts to ask.

Will this Galaxy have all its id banners on a single map, so we can use the SDT easily like the SNS galaxy?

I don't think so, the window shouldn't be that far back...  Still, awesome work DJ
-
				the window definitely faces backwards.

-
It definitely faces backwards...  I just don't think the large scale mock up they used for this shot shows the window in quite the right place. :)

-
I think this blueprint shows best where the window is. I've linked it because it's a large image.

Right now It looks like it should be moved towards the left so that it's closer to where the hull curves forwards. Still, it's looking good, I can't wait to be able to fly this round in BC.
-
honestly, who really cares about that one window's exactness? lol
not that you'll ever notice it in the game

thanks man.. and were all wannabies and aspire to be better than we are... even DJ has someone he thinks he wants to be at that standard...

But DJ and a few others here are at the pinacle of understanding, not only how to make a model look great, but works within a constraint of perticular modding needs for a specific game... and that need to be admired when a ship looks this great.

needless to say, if BC was being released in 2008, with direct x 9.8 -> 10+ features, and the shackles where removed from DJ of BC ....

what would be the outcome...

 DJ..

you.. have inspired me, and so have other BC modellers in the past... so has WZ and most imprtantly Lord Schtupp...  massively a great inspeartion to us all.. im not gonna mention all the great modelers out there... their are far too many.. needless to say i watch ur work and want to be you.. but ..............

this is just summat else... and now and again.. u need to look back before u blow it up..... fly it to the next star sytem... and think...      thats an awsome rendition of the ship..

hats off... big cookies... more tuts lol  8)
-
Asylum seems to have this ability to take words straight out of my mouth/mind/keyboard, :) *gives him a cookie* as his thoughts seem to echo my own. I only hope that my attempts at modding BC can give me a foot in the door when I apply for this school I want to attend soon... so that perhaps, one day, my modeling skills will rival DJ's, and all the other greats out there.

Anyways, back on topic, as Dj well knows, I GREATLY admire his work. It's amazing. So DJ, this Galaxy is stunning, and I can't wait to see how things turn out  for Excalibur, too, since last I checked, you were developing this same ship for that game... Also, dude, that tiny little ready room window with picard staring out into space... it's just cute. :P Nice bumper sticker, too.

 -Aeries.

Here's a bit of an update.  Like I've said before, the ship is basically going to be going through a round of heavy detailing, and I've begun that process.  The saucer section of the 4ft model has thousands of small panel lines all throughout... that's what I'm working on.  In the pix, you can see I've basically done most of the outer part of the dorsal saucer and the bottom of the cobra head.  Can you say tedious as holy hell?  It's worth it though, I think.  People have mentioned that the ship looks like plastic.  The addition of the panel lines should cure that.  I'm also going to make some of the other hull lines, particularly on the nacelles and pylons, thinner.  They are too thick I think.

I ran a little test, btw, and with specular maps, the little panels make a world of difference.  It is really cool.  I can't wait to show you guys an in-game shot.  hell, I can't wait to see one. lol.

Unfortunately, there are no schematics for this kind of stuff, it's all off screencaps from here on out.  TrekCore.com is my best friend right now.  lol.

 Anyhow, on to the pix.

Hmmm it shouldn't look like the Ent-D from Farpoint cause that's not what this model is based off of...  Should look like Season 3 Model.   It'll look much more detailed once DJ renders it with some bumps and the hull won't look as flat as the Season 1 Ent-D
-
Wow DJ this is truly outstanding  #loveFFX#

-
Dude, DJ, keep this up and I might just have a nerdgasm LOL

So nice. The texture quality and attention to detail is remarkable. Excellent work so far DJ.

Looks pretty darn $exy there.  It'll be painful to give up on the SNS Galaxy once this beauty is finished, but I'll get over it  :D

 Excellent job.

Sorry, that goes to show just how much modding experience I have.

Still, it looks pretty darn good!
-
Thanks for the nice comments guys.

and yes, this ship has become a hybrid.

I've spent a couple of hours reducing the size of the lines on the nacelles.  I think they look way better now.  They were almost cartoonish before.

*edit* I've given this same treatment to the entire drive section.  The lines were just too fat.

-
				Glorious, DJ.

-
Yea, that looks a LOT better.

 Keep it up.  #loveFFX#
-
your right it looks allot better..

 nice work
-
Looks much better indeed :) I'm Looking forward to see more :)

-
Here's a quick comparison of the bottom.  It's all about refinement.

-
looks great but I think you are missing something on those phaser textures...

-
phasers are a pain to texture. lol

-

Hey dude, nice to see some development. Great work, keep it up. :)

LOL take a closer look on the hull platings lines

much better I like those lines contrasting with hull, good work DJ  :D
-
you can even see the difference from distant.
the more contrasting version is very cool.
slightly changed but with a big effect.
-
Now I've spotted it.: The hull plating doesn't have those outer lines anymore. Cool.

-
It does, they're just a lot thinner.

-
Looking awsome DJ i feel another award coming soon for you. This is going to look fantastic in game cant wait to try her out

-
About the phasers.. I don't know how accurate this would be for the Galaxy, but assuming the very center of the strips is a single polygon section, you could map it to a slightly different shade of grey, without the stripes.  Would provide some contrast, and add definition without adding any new faces.

That's how the Sov's phasers are anyway, although they're more angular, and the upper face of each array isn't smoothed over.
-
Pretty sure the Galaxy Phasers are just plain as in the show....... but doesn't mean that the ship can't have upgraded ones if DJ wants to express some sort of artistic view of his!

-
nope the galaxy phaser have indents in the center you can see it on some shots.

-
Some pics of how the saucer is shaping up.  Obviously this isn't how it will look in BC as this has bump mapping.  However, it shows you well enough where the panel lines are.

-
Can't say I have any objections to your Galaxy Class :P

My only regret is that BC doesn't support bumpmapping. Nevertheless, it's gonna look great in Excalibur. A cookie for you, sir!
-
				that looks awesome

-
				I'm in love now

-
DJ I have to say this si the best work u have done YET!!!  Paramount should have hired u to design the new USS Enterprise. Seriously. U put time and effort into each of your projects and it has always come out everytime hands up to say the least lol.
 Have another F#&$ing cookie ROFL
-
Superb work DJ, the new hull lines are clean and sharp and the colour of the Escape pods is very accurate!!.  :)

A couple of things I've spotted that you might consider altering...

 1) The Tranporter Panels are far too yellow, I'd recommend desaturating them and lightening them a little.

 2) The Phaser Arrays look a little to dark. Looking back on when I released the CE Galaxy, The phaser arrays were far to dark for the hull textures and it's an easy mistake to make. I'd probably lighten them also by about 20-25%.

Just a bit of feedback DJ.

In any case have a cookie for all the hard work you've put into the textures and the refinement made to the Hull textures, great job!!  8)
-
				Update:

I've done a bunch of work over the last couple of days, though I really should be working on my final project for school.

-Lightened the hull color overall.  It was too dark.
-Lightened the phaser arrays and a few other things.
-Added lots more detail to the hull panels all over the ship.  Still need to do a few more on the dorsal saucer and lots on the ventral.
 -lightened the escape hatches.
 -added a slight window texture

 The ship's coming along.
-
				uuhhh, neat!  8)

-
There are no thrusters on the back of the pylons.  Here's proof-

Never thought to ask before; does this mean DJ, that your Galaxy Class is exclusively for Excalibur?
-
Never thought to ask before; does this mean DJ, that your Galaxy Class is exclusively for Excalibur?
It's gonna be made for both as far as I know. It's likely that DJs Galaxy Class will be what is considered the "Stock Galaxy" for Excalibur :P
-
yeah this will be available for both bc and excalibur.  It will be the 'stock' galaxy of excalibur.  That's why I've not made any effort to do fake bump maps for this ship, since it will have normal maps in excalibur.  if I did fake bump maps now, it would look horrid in excalibur.

also, here's a pic of the new improved phasers and the thrusters added to the back of the nacelle pylons.
-
Can't tell from that angle, but shouldn't the phaser strips be moved up a bit so it's more on the side of the pylons, and not underneath the pylons as it seems from this angle?

-
i don't think so.  I'm pretty sure it's in the right spot.  Again, it depends which model a person is looking at.  On the ft foot, they're evenly between the side and the bottom.

-
				As usual, fantastic work DJ.

I can't even imagine how good it would look if in the future you'd decide to make my favorite class of ship, the Sovereign.

 Cheers.

 Enjoy another cookie  :D

Great work... it looks sweet DJ.. like the new phasers

-
the detail is absolutely amazing.  I wish I could make models.  I'm seeing a new video card in my future thanks to you.

-
Well folks, here she is!  My favorite ship in all of Star Trek... The USS Venture!

I just had a tremendous itch to make it happen today, it's just such a sweet ship.  It's got a great name, cool add ons, and a good history.  I can tell you that when I'm done, this will be the ship I will use basically all the time.  I've honestly been just staring at it in 3ds max for the last 20 minutes in awe.  The phaser mounts on the nacelles just make the ship look so much cooler. :D  As you can see, I also changed all the registries to those of the Venture.

The nice thing is that I added the textures for the phaser mounts to some free space in one of the main galaxy class textures, meaning that when I make modifications to the regular galaxy textures, those changes will also happen to the venture.  So basically, I can continue to detail the hull, while only having to work on one set of textures.

In addition to the development of the Venture, I've also played around with the hull colors a bit, though I think I've got them pretty darn close.  Either way, I really like them right now.  I also made the sunken lines in the deflector a bit less strong, they should appear more drowned out by the deflector light now.  I also added piles of plating details to the secondary hull and lower saucer, though from a distance, they're not easy to see.  (As it should be)

Anyhow, i hope you guys enjoy the pix!

-
				it looks very cool.

-
Go DJ! Go!    sorry for that
The hull collor looks very accurate indeed. I really like the Venture variant, The nacele's phasers give it really a better look, great work!  :D
+ almost forget, cookie time :)

thats looks supremely awesome, have a nice big cookie  :D

Dont forget to swap out the starfleet deltas for the newer version
-
Its an awesome piece of work, but the only slight niggle I have with it is that the escape pods dont stand out as much as I am used to. Whether thats canon or not I dont know, im just going on what I see here.

-
Yeah I feel the same about the escape pods. But awsome work DJ. Chocolate Chip Cookie for you.

-
Looking very sweet indeed DJ! Not sure about this being canon or not, but are you going to have the saucer impulse engines activated on the Venture variant? Again, I don't know if this was seen or not.

Either way I am staving off sheer madness in anticipation for their completion

Have another cookie, not that you need it :)
-

holy mother of god!  the Venture!!   :dance  my fav!   :D
you make it sooooooo pretty!!!  *hugs*

I can tell you that when I'm done, this will be the ship I will use basically all the time.

 hell ya! same here! :)

I've done a very close inspection of some high res pictures people have taken of the 4ft model at Star Trek: The Tour, and the escape pods are virtually the same color as the hull, but just slightly yellowish.  The color I've got is very accurate.  What will really make them stand out will be the normal maps in excalibur.  Perhaps for BC I could make them a bit more contrasted.
-

Holy carp, now I got a ship for the covers of Chaos Theory.  It's beautiful; you even got the phaser bumps right (they were backwards on the SNS).  Allegedly, the Venture has its name below the registry on the ventral side of the saucer according to this site (http://members.aol.com/IDICPage/venture.html), but since we never saw that part of the ship on screen clearly, no one knows for sure.
-
nice work DJ. the phaser mounts on the nacelles seem large to me, perhaps i just havent seen an accurate venture before

-
I bet it probably did have the name on the underside, since the newer galaxy class ships seemed to do that.  IE, USS Challenger.

Perhaps I will.  It's a nice distinction, anyhow.

As far as the size of the phaser mounts go, they're accurate, if you looks closely at any picture of the Venture, you'll see.  It's just that the ship isn't usually seen right from the side, so they tend to be a bit visually compressed.

edit* here's a pic with the extra registry and slightly more contrasting lifeboats.
-
if you say its canon then thats all I need to hear... was just something I thought I'd ask.

BTW DJ, you never got back to me about that deflector dish idea I had, drop me a PM :)
-
				 :dance  :dance

The Venture is one of my favorite ships, and you have done an awsome job on her.
This is definatly a cookie worth :D
-
				Giggity-Giggity-Goo!

 Dayum, nice ship!
-
I've done up some bump maps.
here are the results. :D  As you might see, there are still a few smoothing errors for me to sort out, but all in all, it's not too bad.

The Venture under the light of a yellow sun.

-
when you add some speculars to that its going to look spectacular :)

-
Ok we really need to get this into NanoFX!  Superb!

-
well, the textures are about 90% finished, there's still more detailing I want to do.  I also want to get any smoothing errors sorted out before we pop this bad boy into nanofx.

-
I'm looking forward to getting one of my HP's wrapped around this ;)

-
OMG Dj thats grate Can't wait to have some fun with this.
PS: Have one more Cookie DJ.

How can you know it? The requierements are still unknown.
Your Galaxys look very cool and promising.
-
You know, I was on the verge of taking a break from Chaos Theory because I was feeling a little burned out creatively, but seeing the Venture like I've never seen her before has given me a bit of renewed spirit.  Great work, DJ.

-
Incredible work DJ, I really like the work you've done on the phaser array textures they looks very realistic now. Also the nice additions of the Nacelle phaser arrays for the Venture Refit look excellent and accurate as well.

I agree with you about the Escape pod colours they are almost the same colour as the hull but with a slightly yellow hue to them.

I think you've got the textures spot-on I can't think of any more improvements, weldone!!.  8)

he already knows of that link I gave it to him a while ago and that is of the 6 foot model not the 4 foot... though this galaxy he is building is a hybrid of the two it's primarily the 4 foot.
-
I'd rather it be a hybrid as there's parts i preferre on all 3 models.

-
Unfortunately, I can say nothing more than what has already been said, in the way of praise. So, I'll give you this cookie. Excellent work DJ!

This work deserves more than a "cookie" and unfortunately, there is nothing else better that any of us can give to you...

Except perhaps a sincere thank you for an extraordinary piece of work (actually, many works) but more than that... being kind enough to share your exceptional talent and enthusiasm and..... spirit with the rest of us.

This is what Star Trek is all about.

 Peace, and long life

-
Here's a little surprise for you guys.  I'm in the process of developing a Galaxy Class refit circa 2395, around the time of my Century Class.

 Have done...

-changed and lengthened the shape of the forward nacelles
-moved the nacelles backwards about 20%
-altered the main impulse engine area
-deepened the main shuttle bay door
-made shuttle bay 2 double wide
-brand new warp field emitter coils
 -all new Century/Vivace style deflector
 -saucer impulse always on

 To do... (mostly texture stuff)

 -darken the hull textures
 -add Century style escape hatches.
 -updated pennants and regs
-slight change to the nacelle grills in both color and style.
 -texture the deflector
 -more as it comes up.

Feel free to offer suggestions about anything I've done or am planning to do.  If you have any other idea too, fire them at me.

My goal in doing this has been to make the ship appear more modern (as I see modern) without drastically changing what the ship looks like.
-
MY    .  You make me weep with excitement!  For me, the Galaxy-class will always be my favorite ship.  Truly amazing and wonderful!

-
I like it!!! A major hull refit..similar to what Starfleet did with the Connies...the Galaxy venture refit was already one of the fastest ships in the fleet..and this ship should leave her in the dust as well..will this include updated weapons? Possibly Quantum torpedos as a standard? or the D3 phasers and torpedos on the century/vivace?

-
I think the deflector dish is getting a bit overused now. It's on the century, vivace, upcomming raptor. Perhaps it's interesting to have the dish in similar style but split in three centre areas instead of devided in two? More like (\_/) insetad of (_|_). Just a suggestion, I love the ship still anyway.

-
One idea I have is slanting and elongating the main impulse engine. Hopefully my pictures will somewhat explains my idea. :?

-
God DJ you never cease to amaze me :D

-
DJ all three versions of your Galaxy are simply amazing. About the 2390s refit I love the deflector and the nacelles being moved backwards on the pylons, they suit the Galaxy really well.

Regarding the impulse engines I say leave them the way they are having the improvements being internal through the HP rather than external.  Infact I've just thought why not add two smaller engines somewhere either side of the aft torpedo launcher or on the curves of the pylons.

Anyway keep up the excellent work sir. :D
-
Hey DJ this might be of some use. It's not a Galaxy class of course but it does have some ideas that could fit into your 2290's model very nicely. Like the warp naccelles or deflector. The naccelles would look better with phaser strips on them. You'll see what I mean.

If you need a high rez version i have it on my HDD.
-
Mind if I post some shots of the venture in NFXge Curtis?

-
Personally I would say sovereign like impulse engines would look really cool on a refit galaxy class. :) but thats just my personall opinion

I don't know about the deflector, its a real cool one, but i'd prever to see more variation, perhaps something like Jay Crimson suggested :)

Other than that it looks amazing 8)

-
Mind if I post some shots of the venture in NFXge Curtis?

 go for it mark.
-
im loving this new galaxy, ill have to add another cookie to your ever growing cookie jar

-
				go for it mark.

Wait wait... you mean a NanoFX GE compatible version exists? DJ, I need to get me a copy of that. Was gonna start making some official signatures for NanoFX GE and I would love to use your Venture/Galaxy in my pics :D
-
				go for it mark.

Wait wait... you mean a NanoFX GE compatible version exists? DJ, I need to get me a copy of that. Was gonna start making some official signatures for NanoFX GE and I would love to use your Venture/Galaxy in my pics :D

Actually, that's not really the case...  yes it exists, but only because mark just ported it.  It was actually not even the main goal.  I had sent him the mesh and textures because we wanted to have a go at lighting the deflector using vray, and mark had the idea to port it into GE and I said go for it.  The version of the ship that mark has is still a WIP.

That being said... Mark, I now have specular maps made up, so before you post any pix, let me send them to you over msn.  Then, if you could fire off a copy to DT and Nano so they can do their thing, I'd appreciate that.
-
Yay! I guess today is going to be a great day! lol

Question, did you by chance implement any of the features Excalibur Team has talked about for they way the model needs to be setup for Sub-Systems?

And don't worry we understand it's a WIP... so is the Engine.  Hopefully Mark and DT and NanoFX BETA testers will get an update by the end of the weekend or early next week.  An updated Model Viewer with the new Rendering Features should be available to the public by the end of the month.

Now, just so I'm not hijacking your thread here, let's stay on Topic people!  If you have questions about what I've said, please go to www.nanofx.org
-
Nano, I've not yet implemented any of the changed for sub-systems.  I'll do all that stuff after the BC release so that I've got two clearly different versions.  I also intend to have some enhancements for the excalibur version.

I'm really excited to see what it will look like!

-
Wooow! I LOVE this refit! And, I have a couple ideas for you! :)

 1. Lengthen the Nacelle pylons back a bit at the point nearest to the connection with the warp nacelles. That way, it could look a little sleeker and more balanced, imo, than having simply larger nacelles mounted on the original pylons.

 2. Torpedo launcher, similar to your Century, mounted right below the deflector dish.

 3. MAYBE, just a thought, forgo the impulse engine at the base of the neck entirely, replacing it with an impulse engine on both nacelle pylons, similar to the Intrepid and Vivance.

Just some ideas I thought I'd throw into the mix. Looking really awesome, dude. :) Good luck with this project.

 -Aeries.

Edit: Thought I'd post some pics, in case you weren't sure of what I meant...
-
DJ: the deflector came out quite well, and I also managed something on the bussards (see below).

Nano: I have it exported that way, yes... only thing I didnt know is what to call the objects. PM me with some naming conventions if you want (although we really need to make a new MPE :P)

Everyone Else: Heres is a version of the model which DJ kindly allowed me to test some lighting ideas on, basically I imported it to nfxGE to see how it would look and its come up trumps - remember that it currently has improvised Specular maps.
-
				Great scott.........Mark, you are a genius ;)

And so is DJ for creating such a beatuful piece of work :D.  Cookies to both of you!
-
it certainly looks promising.  GE just looks so much better than BC.

-
				All I can say is....... wow. O_O;

-
				Incredible.

-
				Great scott.........Mark, you are a genius ;)

All credit to DJ, I just did some very small tasks
-
Mark, I'll keep an eye out for you on msn to get you those specs.

 *edit*

oh yeah.  You should all know i just got the 4 disc Best of April Wine compilation.  I am rocking!

Why should you know that?  I'll tell you why... because April Wine is awesome.
-
DJ how about making the new defector even smaller to fit in the middle of the existing galaxy defector and colour it to match.
You could make small changes to the bridge module, and add two new torpedo launchers, the forward facing one under the front deflector, and the rear facing one on the underside curve on the stardrive just above the rear tractor beam emitter.
-
dj your work is more and more amazing...
but I never like the Galaxy in Nano GE...
the proportion seem to be sooo wrong between saucer and stardrive.
I dont know why.. but the saucer looks way too big and massive then
-
it's just the perspective that the camera is set to.

-
				Hey DJ,
I thought it might be kinda cool for your Custom Galaxy to maybe have retractable nacelles imbeded into the saucer, similar to the USS Prometheus,
So upon Seperation The Saucer could Deploy Nacelles (perhaps one on top and one below in the gap where the stardrive sits) so it could have warp capability incase the stardrive was destroyed?, And give it a max warp speed of like warp 5 or something?
-
OK DJ, since you keep teasing us with these beautiful screenshots and leave
us screaming for more, can we please please get a DJ CURTIS GALAXY-X CLASS?

A: Doubt it, and B: Why would you want a bucket of bolts such as that? Sorry to say this, but next to the Enterprise-J, the Galaxy-X is one of the ugliest official designs (exceptions being most of the Frankenstein Fleet).
-
DJ also said many many many many times that he ain't touching the Galaxy X disaster.

Well that's your own opinion, but IMO I think it was a very good model except for the
unusual antenna located atop the saucer. Deep six those and you'd have a great ship.

Although I have to agree with you about the Enterprise-J being ugly, but I think the
NX-01 is the God awful abomination of StarFleet. I don't even think a Ferengi would
 pilfer such a ship.

You have to admit, nothing can tear up Negh'Var cruisers quite like the future Enterprise
 D in "All Good Things."

Maybe the current models haven't done it any justice, however, making a new one for BC and Excalibur
could redeem it among critics not only for its own sake, but also among the sake of critics such as Nebula
and yourself. Plus, there wouldn't be any harm in having an additional model around. Lord knows we've
got plenty of those "other" ships on BC Files.
-
Did you even read my post? This isn't up to you or anyone else other than DJ and he already stated that....

yeah, as I said before, there won't be a galaxy-X of this ship, that I will make.  I will be doing a USS Venture, however.

-
Lets just let DJ reply for himself, okay?

-
That simply looks awesome :D, have a cookie on me

Agreed, good guitar play  :)

You're model looks really great in nfxGE. Can't wait to see how this turns out :)

NX-01 is the God awful abomination of StarFleet. I don't even think a Ferengi would

Then you never saw the episode where the Ferengi boarded the NX-01 and started stealing pretty much anything they could get their hands on, including the captains chair :P

Lol i remember that. Good episode. I think Jeffery Coombs and Ethan Philips  was in that episode. Any the NX-01 is one of the most beautiful ships around. It's the ship that started it all, not the NCC 1701.
-
hey DJ did u remember to change the pennants on the Venture?

hey DJ did u remember to change the pennants on the Venture?

which ones?  I changed the registries, but I was unaware that the pennants had changed.  got a pic?
-
cant seem to find one i know i had one on my moms PC but her HD crapped on me trying to access it. The pennants were upgraded to FC the yellow/gold starfleet delta similar to the defiant and the sov

-
Not on the USS Venture, she still had the TNG arrow heads. Look: http://members.aol.com/IDICPage/venture.html

-
Ill be damned ok nevermind DJ lol

-
no problem.  No reason why I can't put newer pennants on another ship.

Which brings me to my next question...

Would you guys prefer to have the ships (however many it comes out to be, 3, perhaps 4) released individually, or in a one pack?
-
Even though I have a slower connection, I would prefer to have the ships in a pack.

-
One pack is preferred for me, as well. :)

-
				Why not both?

A single ship as a 'preview' with a large pack afterwards.

Oh, you know what ship I'm after.   :D
-
				Looking good DJ!

Mark Graciously passed on your WIP for testing in NanoFX.  Initial results are VERY good.  Some of the Normals (either in the model or in the textures) seemed to be reversed, that that should be easy enough to fix.

If you want to try out your bad boy in an Updated Model Viewer contact me on MSN and I'll get you setup.  Everyone behold, enjoy these 2 pics of DJ's work in NanoFX GE!
-
yeah, the normals are definitely reversed, but you should be able to fix that by simply using photoshop to invert the textures.  I've got to say, those shots look INCREDIBLE!  Thanks for posting those nano!

-
Ya we'll need to get the original bump maps to do that, cause I want to generate the Normal maps again, the life boats aren't very defined up close... the Normal Textures have to wide of a variance span on them.

Plus Mark scaled the model wrong, it's about 100 times bigger than any other ship lol

 Glad you like the pics
-
Pics have been posted at the NanoFX site. One of my MSN contacts mentioned he visits the NanoFX site frequently but doesn't have an account here at BCC. Thought it might be good to have them posted on both sites ;)

-
Incredible :D  Grade A quality that is.

-
If only I could give you more than one cookie per hour man, this ship rocks

-
				looking awesome there :D

-
 Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! Those shots make we wish Excal was already out! DJ and Nano, you guys have done some amazing work! Enjoy these cookies!

-
Still looks great, but is it just me or does the glow of the deflector look like it's about to shoot something?

-
Still looks great, but is it just me or does the glow of the deflector look like it's about to shoot something?

It's called "color bleeding" where something Bright (HDR) or Glowy, bleeds through the edge.  It's a technique to emphasize and mimick Camera Lighting.

The Deflector doesn't come out pretty bright on the top part there, but that can be adjusted in the Textures/Model.
-
yeah i noticed the bleeding as well in the nano FX renders. Hope it can be fixed

-
Ummm it's a feature, not something that needs to be fixed.

Are you guys serious, and don't like the way that looks?  Or just not used to it because BC doesn't do it?
-
				naaah, I can understand them...
doenst look good, maybe because we arent used to it.
but somehow though DJ stated its the angle...
The Galaxy seems to be wrong in my eyes...
-
Maybe it's time to implement real HDR rendering? Instead of the approximation people have come to "accept" as "real" HDR (ie. the fake being basicly a Gaussian blur).

BC users aren't unknown to the fake HDR, it's the Enhanched Glows, albeit a localized version (instead of the entire screen). Which is basicly what I saw in the screenshots.
-
Ummm it's a feature, not something that needs to be fixed.

Are you guys serious, and don't like the way that looks?  Or just not used to it because BC doesn't do it?

It's just that the outer edge of the dish has such a bright glow to it in comparison to the rest of it.  Maybe it looks better in motion, but the way the edges of the deflector are glowing reminds me of when Riker tried to zap the Borg cube to no avail.
-
Ummm it's a feature, not something that needs to be fixed.

Are you guys serious, and don't like the way that looks?  Or just not used to it because BC doesn't do it?

I think it's more the fact that it doesn't look like how it was in the show, which was a consistent soft illumination that was uniformly a deep blue color.

-
				One pack IMO.

-

I think it's more the fact that it doesn't look like how it was in the show, which was a consistent soft illumination that was uniformly a deep blue color.

Ok well that's in the texture/model..... I guess I'll just reitterate that both DJ Galaxy and NanoFX are still WIPs
-
I'm not complaining; it's version 1. Let the man do what he wants.

-
besides, if there are problems, i'm sure DJ can always fix up the model (if it is a model problem) for excalibur later on.

Those screenshots are still flippin' amazing!
-
it's definitely not a problem with the model.  The mesh is 100% error free.  I guarantee it.  It's just the textures.  They're really set up for BC right now.  The GE version may need to be different, but frankly, I don't see much of a problem.  I think it looks great in GE, even if the deflector glow is a little hot right now.  It's easy to tone that down.

-
Just so you know we got the normals sorted out now........ whatever Mark was using (Crazybump or something like that) wasn't making very sharp normals.  We use NVIDIA's plugin for Photoshop, and now they come out very clear and detailed!

-
In the words of many characters in Oblivion: "By the nine!!!"

 *cough cough*

 In other words... COOL!!!!
-
Looks sweet as a nut, great job :)

-
Well, you haven't seen.... :funny Nope! It's just too easy.

Anyway, what he said, looks awesome.
-
Words cannot describe what I am feeling

-

-
				Must have, must have!

-

 Btw excellent work.

 Anyway, sorry for the diversion.

The shots of this thing in the new GE are straining credulity.  I don't know if my brain can comprehend seeing that much detail in game yet.  It just looks too good.

That ship is a beauty DJ, and I can't wait to see her in that graphics engine...

Well CG you know we could always have a gander at an updated Sovy Model from you that would look awesome as well ya know!  Actually if you have ever made a proper set of Bump Maps for your old Sovy, that would greatly improve the one that we have up on www.nanofx.org now, since DT just fudged some lol.
-
that sounds like a great idea

-
Oh, don't think I haven't been thinking about it. :D  For as long as I've been working on the 2.0, I've had bumps planned.  I'd have to rework the model from the 1.0 up though.. the most recent mesh I have is over 20k polygons.  After the high detail is done, I'll rework the original for a low detail version to match, but considering I'm graduating soon, things might get complicated with real life. :P

-
Just to let you guys know what's going on, I've got the Venture in game, and am in the process of HP'ing it.  I'll soon be prepared to begin the scripting on the saucer separation.  I still intend to do some work on the textures, particularly the bussard collectors, but all in all, work is proceeding a lot faster than I expected, so I don't think you guys will have to wait until summer to download her.

Here's a nice little shot I got.  I think I'm gonna submit it as the Potd at bcfiles.  i really like it.
-
Nice, if only it was the ENT D. It reminds me of Generations for some reason.

-
				Helm, warp one, engage!

-
				hmm very nice :D

-
question:  I'm trying to set up a torpedo spread that will fire 10 torpedoes at once.  What would be the appropriate settings in the MPE, including the firing string?  I just can't seem to get it right.

edit* nevermind, i've got 'er figured.
-
				Helm, warp one, engage!

Yep that was the scene. It would look soo good if you could get the explosion of the star behind it.
-
Saucer separation is now working! :D  Also, the drive section and saucer section both have hardpoints now, so the ship is fully functional machine now.

-
Congratulations DJ :D ! Glad to see this beauty fully operational in game :D now... may I relieve you from command of that ship and sit on the capts. chair ? can't wait to get my hands on it :D

-
				 :dance  :dance :dance

I can't wait to blow up some bugships with that one :D.
Awsome work, and definatly cookie worthy!
-
				*lock and load*
 *fires cookie*
fine looks great so far...nice developments last days...
-
*says nothing just drools on the keyboard*

 Awsome work DJ
-
As far as the HP goes, I've made her the fortress that a Galaxy Class starship should be.  It's balanced against KM, but perhaps a bit stronger than previous versions.  I've always felt that Galaxy Class ships have been underestimated in terms of their capabilities.

This ship can fire 10 photon torpedoes simultaneously, and it's phaser coverage is complete.
-
That's excellent news, dude. I always felt the Galaxy was a lot weaker in KM than she was meant to be... just never felt right that the mighty galaxy class was little more than... I think this is your quote... a "lumbering oaf?" Lol.

 -Aeries.
-
Dude, seriously, you really need to slow down on the awesomeness I about died looking at the sheer beauty of that ship...she's a little too sexy :P

-
Funny, I was just editing a scene involving saucer separation.

-
I hearby volentier myself as KM beta tester !!!.  Can anyone blame me lol.

All I can say DJ is  SWEET.!!!
-
				outstanding DJ!!!
 truly amazing work!!
 thank you! :D
-
Holy God. That is a freaking sweet ship, DJ. Looking forward to it.

-
"Commander, when this is over I owe you a cookie"  :P Outstanding work DJ!

-
awesomeness, pure and unadulterated awesomeness, once again DJ you rock. have a cookie

-
Well, I honestly thought it would take me until summertime to get the Galaxy released for BC.  I'm quickly finding out that it just isn't going to be that long.  Not even close.  DO NOT quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure it will be a March release.

The Venture is in game and fully functional.  The MVAM is awesome, and really adds to the ship.  I've managed to find a balance where separating the saucer really does boost your chances of survival.  I've done this by adding the hidden torpedo launcher to the saucer undercut, and increasing the maneuverability of the drive section in separated flight mode.  Overall, it works out really well.

The Galaxy is an offensive monster if you want it to be.  With the Venture, because of the extra two phaser mounts, the dorsal phaser coverage is exceptional.  They really make a big difference.  As per the ST:TNG Technical Manual, I've made the main saucer phaser arrays more powerful, and lowered the strengths of the other phaser arrays accordingly.  Basically, the really short arrays are less powerful.

I've also tried to make its torpedo capability much more true to the show.  This has been a bit of a trade-off, because since there are now ten HP's for each the for and aft launcher, if your torpedo launchers get damaged, it's a lot of work to repair them all.  That being said, I think that's fairly realistic.

The ship moves like I think most people would expect.  You should really be able to feel the size.  It's not sluggish, but it's a good thing the phaser coverage is good, because you're not going to be keeping up with bugships and birds of prey.  I've also compensated for this by ensuring that the torpedoes track accurately.

As of now, the venture, as I said,  is fully functional.  I've made icons for all the ship's components, however I've been having some trouble with the weapon arc display.  I've been using the Tactical Display Editor, but there seems to be some kind of error, because when I select an icon for some of the phaser HP's, they don't show up, and it seems to foul up the HP.

Anyhow, that's what's going on with things right now.
-
I'm totally excited. 'Nuff said.  :arms:

-
Awesome news DJ, shame that the tactical icons are messing up on you though.

-
wow, march?? i feel all giddy inside...

-
Darn it DJ, I'm gonna have to re-install MVAM now.  :P

-
				Speaking of which...

-
AHHH awesome though I have one little nitpick on the bridge section.... lol

-
it's already been fixed. lol

I think we've been hanging out here too long.  I can read your mind. :)
-
LOL is that so ? heh I'd like to see a pic :P

 oh and have a cookie
-
This has been a bit of a trade-off, because since there are now ten HP's for each the for and aft launcher, if your torpedo launchers get damaged, it's a lot of work to repair them all.  That being said, I think that's fairly realistic.
I always felt the ship should have a single HP torpedo tubes and bump up the hit points for each of those. Maintaining those in battle will be quite cumbersome since having them is a top priority.

But, I am glad the phaser power for the main arrays has been increased. The Galaxy on the big screen was able to cut right through K'Vort and Galor Class shields. KM's Galaxy was very weak.
-
HP wise the KM galaxy (that I and shin worked on) was balanced so it could take on 2 galors or 1 keldon... at a time...

I like what DJ is doing though :)
-
				Yes very cool! ;)

-
				Heee...heeeee...

-
Waiting for this is like waiting for a Christmas pressie under the tree, lol

-
this just totaly screams awsome.... I really do look forward to playing with this

-
Let me know if you need a hand with the TDE stuff DJ. Also you can use elements from my Galaxy HP in the Federation DW ship pack if you need to.

-
Waiting for this is like waiting for a Christmas pressie under the tree, lol

 How true.
-
it just looks so much better in GE.

And El, if I have too much trouble, I might take you up on that to see if you can sort it out.
-
Gotta admit DJ you know your one of the if not the most popular Ship builders when your thread gets read over 11 thousand times lol.  We all appreciate the work mate.

-
				Thanks a lot.

The USS Enterprise D is now fully functional in-game.  I still have to do the tactical icons, as well as a new bussard texture.  But other than that and a few HP tweaks, she's ready to leave spacedock, as it were.

-
				[recreates 11001001 and commandeers DJ's Enterprise-D] ;)
 Good work.
-
That is absolutely stunning, although it should be no surprise coming from you and your level of quality ships.

-
Wow, dude. I'm not shocked at the sheer quality of your work; that much I've come to expect from you. Nevertheless, I must point out that you've gotten me hooked on a star ship that I never used to give a second glance at. I'm impressed... especially so, given her development with NanoFX GE... it looks absolutely amazing.

Wonderful work. I'm sure you're an inspiration to us all. Well... at least to noobs like me. ;)

 -Aeries.
-
Truly incredble work DJ. The level of detail is outstanding considering the limited reference material available for the 4 foot model.

-
				without words...as always!
I never saw such a clean detailed Galaxy :)
-
Where'd you get that spacedock?  I'd love to see the Venture parked in there.

-

It's the Starbase 220. It's included in Kobayashi Maru. You can get the base at

-
I wonder why I never saw it in KM before.

-
Wow really nice. But imo I think it looks to look a little bit 'dirty'. The ship seems to look a bit too clean at the moment.

space is no mud puddle.
-
well, it isn't a carwash either, but I personally like the clean look

-
What're you guys talking about? Space is an ACNE CLEANSER! All that suction... GREAT for clearing out the pores! :D

 Looks good, DJ.

 -Aeries.
-
my gods this is amazing (sorry, i'm in a BSG mood right now, love it) this is truely stunning work, i don't think i've seen anything quite like it. IMO though it looks better in BC, i'm not fond of GE's graphics, personally i don't think bump maps look nice but that's just me - either way this is frakkin amazing work, a very well done to you.

-
Wow really nice. But imo I think it looks to look a little bit 'dirty'. The ship seems to look a bit too clean at the moment.

Don't worry after a few torpedo hits and phaser burns in game she will look just the way you want her.

Great work DJ, she looks wonderful.

Don't like bump maps?   Odd....   Ahem....... well anyways you can turn bump maps off by moving the slider to 0.0 in the model viewer, then it should look pretty much like it does in BC for the most part.  Why anyone wouldn't want more surface detail is beyond me, but NanoFX is about having as many options available to satisfy everyone.
-
Cheers to DJ's Galaxy and NanoFX GE! For raising the bar higher to give us all something bigger to shoot for! :D

 -Aeries
-

No, no, we want more surface detail! :D

don't get me wrong, i want surface detail, it's just that bump mapping, idk, looks odd to me somehow but anyways, let's not get off topic.
-
if things look somewhat oddball in NFXGE its because all we have ever seen so far is BC ports that were hastily made viewable. a ship designed to be viewed in a native NFXGE environment will look as close to flawless as they can make it

-
here are some quick renders of the year 2400 galaxy, as it stands now.

-
I still say the pylons could be stretched back a little bit, to balance the size of the Warp Nacelles. I still think, too, that the extra century-style torpedo launchers below the deflector would look totally sweet.

But, eh, I still like this a tonn! :D Good work, I'm loving the Galaxy with that deflector!

 ~Aeries.
-
not a fan of the deflector array on that 2400 variant but other than that it looks pretty sweet, but then im not a fan of the galaxy class anywhoo i personaly thing it looks fugly

-
				have a cookie...again^^
rellay nice, the deflector is ... used quite often in your models...But I like it.
theres nothing to add than this is a beauty ;)
-
				2 suggestions:

 - Century Class torpedo tube additions
 - Century Class escape pods

Other than that, it looks great :D
-
hmm I would change the phaser bank color to what you see on the sov/voy

and maybe change the saucer deflector to something else
-
I think the Century-class escape pods would look nice for this galaxy upgrade.  The "old" escape pods would be out dated, and Sovereign pods would look plain weird.  Maybe a new bridge module?

-
oh..that would be a really cool idea, a new bridge module..

-
DJ i feel the small changes you have made to the 2400 version are just fine, they give her a new look without departing from what made her what is was in the first place.

-
				2 suggestions:

 - Century Class torpedo tube additions
 - Century Class escape pods

Other than that, it looks great :D

 My thoughts EXACTLY!!

Good to know I'm not the only person thinking so. :3
 *hugs Dj's Galaxy*
-

I'll agree with mayhemuk on this, any more additions would begin to look as silly as the Galaxy-X was to the Galaxy IMO.
-
i love those nacelles great job DJ and u can be the first to have my freshly baked dawg cookie

-
The ship looks great and definitely change the escape pods.  I look forward to these galaxy class ships.

-
Actually, changing the escape pods doesn't make sense at all, at least from a construction perspective.  The main changes so far have all been individual systems that could easily be swapped out (ie, new nacelles, new deflector), or slight changes to the overall design.  Changing the escape pod design would require reworking the entire escape pod system, not to mention adapting every pod docking port to fit a different shaped pod.  It'd be a major reconstruction of every pod area at best.

Unless there's some massive improvement to the new pods design, I don't think there's any reason to change the arrangement of them.  Maybe retexture them to look updated, but don't change the shape/placement.
-
The deflector doesn't do the 2400 model any justice (maybe give it an enhanced Dom. War version),
but other than that it looks superb.

-
I really like what you have done to the Nacelles........ the Deflector though......... it's just not agreeing with me lol, but that's just me, I really don't have a suggestion of what could be done to make it look right.

Actually, if memory serves me the Century Class escape pods are very closely the same shape as the square pods of the Galaxy Class, just that the texturing is different. That's basically all that is needed is to update the texturing to match the Century Class pods.

That and adding additional Century Class style torpedo tubes :P
-
I'd love to see a sleeker galaxy class. For example, keep the same saucer shape, but make the deflector dish/section around the deflection dish fused into the main saucer section like Voyager/the Nebula Class, and make it three warp engines instead of 2, then it would look cool. Like a super-sleek Galaxy-X

-
I find myself agreeing with most of the others here, love the nacelles, but that deflector seems odd here.  Century escape pods and torpedo tubes would be really nice, and maybe....just maybe modify the captains yacht area with a torpedo turret.

It's pretty awesome though, the detail still impresses me.
-
Yeah I agree think its great myself love the foward swept pilons on the nacelles only the deflector gives me pause.

-
I think adding the Century Class torpedo tubes will make it look less like the graceful beauty that the Galaxy Class already is, she has great lines and more tubes will break it up to much.

I do also think that the Deflector should be different, a modified version of the one it already has, maybe base it off of the Nedula Class one.
-
				very nice work!

I also think that Century Class escape pods would look cool on these, and I like the Century Class Deflector on this too,
but please don't add more torpedo tubes to this. I think the Galaxy Class have enough fire power, it don't need aditional
 torpedo tubes.
-
I like the deflector it's very 21st century in term of modern and gives the Galaxy a much less fussy frontal look in my view, I'd like you to keep it if only for a variant DJ.

-
				absoluty brilliant dj.
another peice of art and might i say a prefect evolution of the beautiful galaxy, this deserves a cookie  :D
-
The Enterprise and the Venture are 95% done.  The only thing left to do are the tactical displays.  However, I've been having problems with them, and have sent the mod off to Elminster, who's agreed to see if he can work through the difficulties.

Hopefully the issues get sorted out quickly, and I'll be able to release this asap.

-
no worries - a masterpiece takes time :)

Thats excellent news DJ, I've been waiting for an update on this beauty for ages. I'm glad to hear that she's "almost" ready to leave spacedock!!  8)

I will be cleaning out the off topic tonight.

-
Jimmy has had a chance to try this ship out.  Jimmy, if you read this, could you post your impressions for people to read.

absolutely!  i got an early taste of DJ's Venture Class  8)  and the Venture has always been my most favorite for years now...
altho i have had a busy week, and have only had about a few minutes here and there literally to fire up BC - i gotta say this Venture Class has got to be the most amazing and beautiful ship i think i have ever come across!! i am absolutely floored by how incredible it is!
it looks spectacular even on my crappy 5 year old pc lol  it handles well also, and again im on a mid-range system...  i havent tried playing with 3 or 4 of them at once to see how much a slideshow id wind up with lol but im sure it would be slight...  (someday ill be able to afford a new pc lol someday...)  and it handles very well compared to KM ships - this Venture packs quite a punch!
anyway im not even kidding when i say ill prolly get back into playing BC for fun again, rather than playing to mod and tweak scripts (when i do eventually have more free time lol)...  the Venture has always been my favorite; and DJ - youve done *amazing* justice to her!! :D
thank you sincerely for making this!   :dance
-
				DJ -

Any idea of which ships you'll rollover to/create for the 2395 refit?
-
				no.

and thanks for the kind words, jimmy.
-
i'm still floored by its beauty lol

-
				the speculars are amazing :)

-
				the speculars are amazing :)

 Isn't it just perfect?
I adore the colours; the bussards, the warp coils, the hull colours... it all works out so perfectly. A grand masterpiece, to be sure. Wonderful, from the beginning, to the end. Let the legend live on, and on.

 ~Aeries.
-
				All wrong. Start again.

 lol

 Just kidding. Its excellent.
-
I will be cleaning out the off topic tonight.

 beat ya to it :P
*thread cleared of the last few days' offtopic posts*

 carry on :)

btw - have i mentioned how amazingly beautiful this ship is??  :P  8)
-
Great news.  Elminster has been very helpful with the tactical display issue, and the ship will be ready for beta probably later today.  I've a list of people who are very effective beta testers, and I'll be contacting them shortly. Hopefully the Enterprise and the Venture should be ready for release by Sunday next week.

It's been a long time coming.  But I promise it will be worth the wait! :D
-
				That is good news.

-
				Great news DJ.

-

I bet it will be worth just like all ships from you ;) heh can't wait till next sunday... what about tuesday :D
-
				~It's been a long road,
 gettin' from there to here.
 It's been a long time,
but my time is finally here~

*daydreams of all the great adventures to come with Dj's galaxy*
-
It's about time DJ :P.  Sheesh, been waiting for like...ever for this beauty lol.  Patience is not a virtue to me :P.  Kidding, this is good news though :) and I cannot wait to kick some butt with this gorgeous ship.

 Roger
-
				I know I know. :D  I'm a procrastinator.

-
not really - you originally said they wouldnt be due for release until the summer :P
of course, you could still stick to that original plan, and tease everyone else lol
-
hey, that's a great idea Jimmy!

watches as the others demand jimmy's head in a basket

Woohoo!  Now we need a BC TNG-style opening with this Enterprise. ;)
-
				Jimmy's head.
 In a basket.
 Now.
-
Can it be a straw basket? cherry wood maybe? or plastic? :D

Excellent.  That galaxy is going to rock BC. :D Woo hoo!!! I can hear the TNG Intro music now.
-
				Oh, cherry is nice wood...

...damn, I'm missing wood work now... *wimper*

Heh, can't wait for this ship, DJ.
-
				DJ,

What's the poly count on this beauty? I've got an nVidia 6100 GPU; will this
eat up a lot of video memory if I've got the Galaxy loaded with a couple of
other ships? What kind of differences can I expect in appearance if I upgrade
 my GPU?

-
what you've got will be fine.

 It's about 13k polygons with 4 2048x2048 textures.
-
Sh*t, Dj, that's awesome for such a low count... perhaps I ought to re-work the Mithra into a 2.0 one of these days.. :P

-
I can only imagine what a DJ Constitution Refit might look like.

-

*Drools* Awesome is what that would be.

 Sweet looking Galaxy DJ!
-
JIMMY! take back those words :P

 I think I could handle 13k and 4 textures :).
-
what you've got will be fine.

indeed - it seems fine on my crappy build, so it should be perfectly well for everyone else...  :)

 Check that out people. :D
I just made the preview for the "DJ Curtis Galaxy Class Variant - USS Venture" and posted it up on youtube.
That's one amazing ship and I can barely believe how awesome it looks.  Like it was straight out of the TNG series.

I'm only posting the link so you can comment on youtube, don't want to fill up this thread about my video. :D

				God, that Galaxy is incredible.

-
GREAT VIDEO Cordanilus.  I'd like to publicly extend my gratitude for your hard work on that.  I think it will really help build excitement over the mod.  You ARE the BEST video maker for BC.

That's what I said!  Of course, it'd be better with the D rather than the Venture, it'd make more sense. :P
-
Someone needs to do the TNG Intro with this Galaxy  :D

I was almost going to make it like that but the Galaxy I have from DJ is the venture. Just wouldn't feel right. ( I almost flooded this thread with my video ideas, lol. )  There's always next time. :D
-
If you want it cord, I can send it to you.  The only reason I sent you the venture is because that's the one i'd assembled for El to work on the Tactical displays.

-
Well, I guess next time is here. :D

If the ship looks good, weapons work and the ship moves around...then that's all I need. :D  The answer is yes, gimme gimme gimme.

Since there's only going to be some credits throughout the entire intro, I'm going to add a twist to the video.  I won't say what It'll be just yet, can't give out all the surprises. :D
-
Hey, as long as you upload a good resolution vid to BcFiles in addition to the one on youtube, that'd be awesome.

-
Okay, so... To be honest, the first couple of ships I saw from Curtis kinda put me off (No offense meant, they just... I dunno, wasn't my thing, despite the detail) But this... This... Wow. Just... Wow. I... Wow.

 PROMOTIONS!!!

-
				PROMOTIONS!!!

 Make him a fleet admiral, I'd say... but for god's sake, stop feeding him all these cookies! He's gonna EXPLODE one of these days. >_<;

Eh, we have waited this long, whats another 10 days?  8)
-
just to make sure the testing can get done properly, and El has time to finish the tactical displays without a big rush.  Will also give the vids some time to build up the hype! :D

aaah a perfect day for release - a Happy 420 it will be indeed  8)

I cant wait to get my hands on her DJ.. I have no intention on playing her ingame.. as I have the games I just dont play them.. but I will study your model in great detail to see what you did..

great learning tool.. great job and thanks for sharing  8)
-
I'm totally with Asylum on that one. :D

 Eeeewwwwwwwwwwwww 420!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! T_T;
-
ok enough about the 420 before the joke gets even older lol

-
				420?

 Anyway...

I can't wait to watch this ship in my BC slide show. (I really need a new computer.)

 Have a cookie.
-
				420?

 420 = stoners holiday lol
-
ok enough of the 420 please (again)...
and yes i know i was the one that brought it up originally lol...

back on topic, shall we please :)

whats wrong on bcfiles with the preview?!

-
whats wrong on bcfiles with the preview?!

BCFiles messes up frequently.  I just tried to check out a couple of DJ's previous ships and I get a 404 message...AFTER it starts loading the page.

Anyway, I can't wait, this is probably going to be the standard in Galaxy class models in BC.
-

DJ Curtis I am a great Fan from your work...All your Ships are amazing, Particularly the Enterprise F.... And i have a question to you, about the Venture.
The Venture has a ablative Amor????  :arms:
P.s. The Galaxy Class is my favorite Class..... :o
-
				It doesn't have ablative armor.

So far, the video's getting a great response at BCFiles.  Just wait till they see Cord's intro for the standard.  They'll flip. :D
-
:arms: And I will most certainly snort my tea in excitement... AGAIN!  :P

-
Cord, you have really done it this time. Splendid.
 Cookie for you, dude.

 ~Aeries.
-
I love it!  Great work Cord!

I especially like the beauty pass as the ship orbit's earth, and the running from the borg flyby.  You did a great job of showing off the specularity textures too.

 Very cool bro!
-
Wow...that'd better be going up on BCFiles so I can download it.  8)

-
omg I dont have words for that anymore :)
 great work.
cant wait to take her out of the drydock :)
-
that vid was even better than the venture one!

DJ i love the blinkers! :D
-
Yes sir.  It's on it's way to BC Files.  Submitted it last night so just waiting for someone to review it and post it. :D

The first 3 scenes in that vid, there wasn't anything like it (how I wanted it to be) on BC Files so I made it all myself.  The blue cloud dust thingy, the galaxy, the comet heading for the galaxy, saturn and it's moon and that little red planet. :D  Some textures by me but the other textures are by NASA.

NASA is always a good place to go to for some high quality pictures / textures. I mean, they got such a huge texture for Earth that it makes my PC cry.  lol  It almost froze my computer...my poor 512 MB graphics card.
-
Like always :D one of the best previews ever ! cookie for you mate :D

oh btw. do you still have that earth you was working on ? the one with modeled atmosphere, it was cool :)
-
If there was just one ship that makes it worth buying a whole new computer to run it, this would be that ship.

-
you probably won't need to. :)

-
you probably won't need to. :)

doesnt mean he shouldnt, a newer comp is never a bad thing
-
Never hurts to have a little upgrade action going on.  Within the week my new
MB & Video Card will arrive hmmmmmmmmmm.   The wait is killing me lol.

BTW speaking of waiting killing me, its 6 days before release date and it feels like it is 6 days before Christmas lol.  Can't wait DJ lol.

-
Yay, It made it up before I went on my trip.  I'll check it tonight for the responses. :D

Yay, high res!  Very beautiful, manages to capture the TNG opening feel without being a direct "rip" of the opening credits.  I say you get a cookie!

-
I've just watched both videos. Good work, cordanilus.

-
Cord, you are the BC video god, lol.

Excellent work, definatly a cookie worth :D

-
excellent videos, really, its an awesome looking ship...

just one question(and sorry if its been asked already): the galaxy seems to be very reminiscent of the early tng galaxy rather than the later ones seen in ds9, its brighter, and seems (though it could just be the angles) to have a more curved design (on the nacelles especially). i'm not complaining, not at all, just wondering if it was a conscious decision on your part, or am i just reading too much into it lol...

again, not complaining, it really is quite a lovely ship...
-
That was actually intentional.  DJ designed this after the miniatures of the Enterprise D from the series, not the CGI Galaxy's used in DS9, VOY, and ENT.  Hence why the saucer impulse engines only activate when separated. ;)

-
				ah, cool, thx...

-
K folks.  There are some troubles with the tactical displays.  So I'm going to release the ship without them.  Believe me when I say that you won't even need them anyhow.  Phaser coverage is 100%, and the phasers recharge rapidly.

Sorry, btw, to my would-be beta testers.  I've just not had the time to assemble the final package.  It has, however, been used by both Jimmy and El, who report no errors or difficulties.  In addition, I've been using them for a couple months now in some usable fashion or another, and have had no problems.

So, the ships are ready for release, and I'll be uploading the package late tomorrow night to BCFiles for posting on Sunday.
-
				Simply wonderful news. :)

-
				Sounds great to me!

-
yay!  Thanks for all this Curtis:D

-

Yep, someone with more programming skills than I needs to write a new TDE that works under Vista properly.
-
				*shudders @ vista* Elm...dude lol.

Good to hear that this will be released soon :) can't wait to get my hands on her *evil grins* BUAHAHAHAHAHA....ok, randomness :).  Seriously great work DJ, and I hope to play this alongside of the SNS :)
-
This is incredible news.  You've just made my weekend.  What is wrong with the tactical displays, anyway?  Will they be fixed in a later release?  I've never figured out how to edit those.

-

Yep, someone with more programming skills than I needs to write a new TDE that works under Vista properly.

If you can tell me what it does (preferably via e-mail) I might be able to whip something up that "works". I've just downloaded it, but I can't really make heads or tails of it.
-
Well, there seems to be some kind of bug, where the HP file is corrupted when you assign tactical display icons.  It appears to be random though, so I never no from one attempt to another which icons I can try and add.

However, recharge times on all weapons are minimal, and the phaser coverage is 100%, so the TD is of not much use.
