Title: Section 31 Century Class Stealth Cruiser Near Completion

Some of you may remember a Section 31 Century class I was working on a couple of months back. Well I've decided to scrap that one and start again. I've almost finished the top texture (been working on it for the last 1 1/2 hours). What do you think? As you can see it follow a similar design to the first one but this is much neater. I made the hull black and added noise to it to give it a matallic effect and then overlaid the speculars on it and made then transparant. Also the armour is neater on this version. You'll notice that the big strips have been split up to make it smoother. There's still much work to be done on the rest of the ship and I need to tone down those alpha channels.

First pic is before, 2nd after. Remember the rest of the ship has had hardly anything done to it.

Oh yeah... it reminds me of a car but I dunno what one???

Thanks, the trouble with the old one was that I was a noob at photoshop and the TGA files were a mess by the time i'd finished with them. I didn't save the PSD files to edit later so I was screwed. Also with the first version I just applied a filter to achieve the bulk of the textures. This time round i've replaced them which makes it a lot easier because the escape pods and windows are still neat and intact unlike the last one. It would have taken longer to fix the windows on the old one than starting from scratch.

Second version looks alot better. Still not much of a fan of re-paiting existing Starfleet ships, and commissioning them as Section 31 ships :P

I think Section 31 if they had a fleet, they would more than likely be of their own designs. And if they re-allocated a bunch of existing Starfleet ships as their own, I doubt they'd change the hull color etc, in order to make them indistinguishable from the standard Starfleet :)

I think Section 31 if they had a fleet, they would more than likely be of their own designs. And if they re-allocated a bunch of existing Starfleet ships as their own, I doubt they'd change the hull color etc, in order to make them indistinguishable from the standard Starfleet :)

Hmm I see what you mean but I like these designs because they're unique. I don't wanna retexture a ship and have it forgotton 2 months down the line or replaced.

Actually, Lukerobin, they do have a decent point; if I was with Section 31, I'd be disenclined to use standard (or modified variants of) federation starships. What I could suggest is perhaps keep this as reference, textures & all, and build a fresh model of your own design from scratch. You have the skills, I think... ;)

Anyways, this is looking pretty neat. Not sure I'm fond of the random glowy portions, though.

Well the random glowy portions will be darkened later. Have any of you ever read The Return by Will Shatner? The USS Monitor was some inspiration. I'll try to get some info on it later. Also look up some S31 ships on BC Files. They follow a similar design but highly undetailed. I will have a go at making my own ship after i've finished this but I hardly have any skill in 3D Max :D Though perhaps a heavily modified varient could suffice. At the moment I just want to practice my texturing skills.

Edit: Max isn't too hard to get a hold of when you get used to it. :) Just takes time and dedication.

but as I already mentioned on your first attempt, I think you have a nice handling with your colors.
its obviously this ship isnt "normal" but its not too freaky...
If I just had ANY skills in modelling :(
I have an idea though!
What about adding an additional Pod which's pylon reaches from one Warp nacelle to the other?
Like the mithra by aeries...
but even if this will remain a retexture, I like it, it would be the first S31 Ship I'd download! :);)

Ok this should put an end to it. It's almost cannon since Wil Shatner wrote the book.

It says, "In William Shatner's book The Return and the USS Monitor was a modified Defiant-class vessel with an all black hull coating that was specially built by Starfleet Intelligence, and was temporarily renamed Enterprise while mounting a direct offensive against the Borg/Romulan alliance at the Borg homeworld."

It's a logical assumption that other ships could follow this design.

I done some more before. Changed the name, neatened up the armour a bit and removed all the alpha channels. The top of the saucer is pretty much complete unless anyone has any suggestions???

The "noise" seems a little much to me. Or maybe a little contrasting to the main colour. Looking like one hell of an improvement over your first attempt though!

Nice work, no arguement. One little thing, though... why no glowing nacelles or windows? Makes it almost look like a direlect ship... or everyone's taking a nap? :/ Just imo.

Ah right I didn't explain the ships purpouse. (Did you follow it when I was doing the first attempt?) It's a stealth ship. Designed to be hard to see with very advanced sensors but far less firepower and weaker shields. But it is a lot quicker and has a re-enforced hull with stronger ablative armour. It has a cloak and i'm gonna try to make it not show up on enemy sensors unless within 50km. The naccelles should be glowing (need to fix it) but the windows should be as they are. A verdict was reached on the 1st attempt that the windows should be black. However if other people think they should be lit then I can change them back.

I also forgot to add, that in the first attempt it was hard to strike a balance between realism and fun. I could make it dark and completely black (would be more fitting) but there'd be no fun in it because you couldn't see the ship.

And one last thing, I have just gotton permission yesterday to retexture a very special ship. I'm not going to name it yet but I think it'll be perfect in this style. I'm gonna do it after I finish this.

Well, maybe somewhere down the line the windows may be simply removed? Because this way, it looks like they're just "off". Might be a bit too much work at the moment, though, I admit... would almost require a complete retexture. I do agree, though, that the bussards, warp coils and deflector should all be on. :)

Well i'll do the naccelles tomorrow because I made a mistake on them. I'll have to see about the windows. Perhaps just dim light might be better.

Ah rite, the angle I was using in the shots meant that the light was shining onto the hull. Normally it's not as 'noisy' when just flying around. I'll get you a screenshot when I go on next.

Well i'm back. I done the 2nd tga file. You can't see much from the shot since it's a small part of the ship. The 4th tga will make the biggest difference.

Here's some big updates. It's a lot more Sovvie like now. I replaced the shuttle bays 1+2 with impulse engines and also added that armour effect on the sovvie to the rear of the saucer. Remember the ship is meant to be very manuverable so the extra engines would help. The first pic is before for comparison.

EDIT: Perhaps the armour could end past the impulse engines???

Deepen the color of the impulse engines to a darker, richer red and make the alpha channels brighter... I *think* that would work nicely.

Also I would like to thanks Dc McCoy for the idea of turning the shuttle bays into impulse engines like he did on his excelsior.

Well I think the textures are almost done. Just some things to finish off like the registries etc. What do you think? The top pics show the ship when light spills on it with it specs and the bottom when it's in the black of space. I wanted it to be dark like that so it can blend in with the background.

The bottom of the engineering hull looks a little...busy (for lack of a better word). Other than that, its looking great. The specs look good from here.

Ok, I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but I have to ask; what's with all the section 31 ships?
Section 31 was introduced in DS9, it was a bunch of rogue intelligence agents doing ethically... questionable stuff the federation would normally avoid. The very nature of the agency was decentralized and based on individual agents;
there was no HQ and no specific heavy duty hardware they used. They didn't have A ship, let alone a fleet.
Honestly I never understood these section 31 re-textures, no offense.

I've only done 2 and i'm only releasing one of them. It's just a bit of fun really. The thing is because we've never saw that much of S31 it means I can do it how I want.

Anyway, can anyone help me make this into a seperate ship. I might still retexture a couple of shuttles for it.

You should only need to make a new HP for it, as in, copy the Century's folder, rename it, then point the scripts in the right places.

By the way, she's amazing, I love the contrasts, but I'm a little unsure of an S31 ship using registries. Still, cookie for you.

I'm sure you're familiar with the MPE, right? Unless you are planning on changing it's loadout, you should just be able to copy and rename the scripts and then just point those where you want them to go.

The HP is modified. I'm still not sure what you mean with MPE though.

You should only need to make a new HP for it, as in, copy the Century's folder, rename it, then point the scripts in the right places.

By the way, she's amazing, I love the contrasts, but I'm a little unsure of an S31 ship using registries. Still, cookie for you.

First, the medium and low versions are still pointing to the original Ent F folder. Second, make sure the hp name is correct.

I havn't included the med and low versions so that shouldn't effect me because i'm running the game on high. And the HP name seems to be correct to me (or do I need to add py to the end of it?).

Hmm, I don't know what else I can do. Would it be possible to send the ship to one of you's and you could do it for me. I can then compare your version to mine to see what you have done different. It's a pity there isn't any tools that'll do it.

I never was a fan of S31 retextures of any ship, but you do make it look awesome. Good work, my man. Very good indeed.

Alrighty luke, I got it to work. First off, in the hp comment out the file path, like this.

Comment out simply means you add a # in front of a line you want the program to ship/ignore. (I'm sure MLeo has a better explanation.)

It showed in BC after I made a plugin with BCSMC. I was able to add it through the "add ships" menu as well as use it in a quickbattle.

I don't know how to make Scripts, but there should be a script out so when a section 31 ship gets nearly disabled, it should like automatically go into a self destruct routine so the ships not 'discovered' or things leaked out.

That'd be the captains job. Automated destructs aren't feasible, what if the ship still had some chance? The CO had something up his sleeve? "Automated Destruct cannot be disengaged" Or something fuses, you're scrweed, and S31 loses an entire ship, complete with crew.

Nice, Chrono!  Just played it ingame, and noticed something: the rear phasers fire a bit away from the surface.  Just a small thing that anyone can fix though.  Just thought I'd let you know since you uploaded it as a 0.9, and a 1.0 would seem to include a fix for that.  :D

EDIT: Ah, I see you changed your name!  Okay, fixed!
