Title: TNG era Connie style bridge
Post by: baz1701 on October 10, 2008, 03:22:40 PM
Hi little bored tonight so started to play around in 3D Max and came up with this bridge

Those helm/ops consoles need to be rotated about 30-40? upwards, but it looks decent nonetheless.

Make the chairs lean back a bit, too :P.

Looks very nice! Would be a nice bridge for the new Gagarin.

Also, what program are you using?

I'm using 3D Studio max

very nice!!   i really hope someone will be able to script it, for the animations for characters and everything else, so as to use it ingame (after it is textured and lightmapped) :)

It's style might be TOS-esque... but it's layout looks very similar to that of the Galaxy Class bridge.

Will be interesting to see what comes of this bridge when you get further along.

added the consoles around the edge. Also made the bridge bigger since with the consoles in place in scale there was no room to walk around the upper deck

wow looks cool what oyu got so far.
but IMO the viewscreen is a bit small, make it bigger ;)

Theres something very appealing about making bridges. I want to make my own custom Century class bridge.

I like the idea of this though, I look forward to seeing more!

appealing perhaps...  time consuming, annoying, arduous, painstaking - those are other adjectives for getting a bridge from start to fully functional ingame...  lol
Title: Re: TNG era Connie style bridge

added some textures. The Lcars I've borrowed from the Enterprise B bridge. Has anyone got any TNG ones I can use?

What about...

Fun, learning experience, team effort, amusement, rewarding? Difficult, yes... yet also rewarding in the end.

That's looking great, Baz.

Edit: A lot of those edges could use some chamfering, though, IMO, and some stuff could be smoothed. :] Still fantastic.

Trust me man, it's a lot more fun making your own Lcars. You learn a whole bunch of tricks that streamline the progress and don't have to rely on someone else to make them.
Title: Re: TNG era Connie style bridge
Post by: baz1701 on October 12, 2008, 03:03:02 PM
done some smoothing, I might have a look at lcars but they won't be canon but my own style

Somehow, the ceiling feels a bit "low". Perhaps if you could make the walls a bit higher would make the bridge look a lot less cramped in.
Title: Re: TNG era Connie style bridge
Post by: Barihawk on October 12, 2008, 05:40:06 PM
Agreed, that ceiling only really looks about 7 feet high.

I actually quite like it. Gives it a bit of immediacy.

..although the dome might be an issue for tall races...

Or for anyone remotely over 6'.
Love this. Smoothing it out made all the difference. I LOVE how it looks like a galaxy, but TMP style! :D

I was wondering what class of ship this bridge should be used for?

Bare in mind I'm a fan of the canon old school ships (tmp era) so I'm not up on all the TNG,DS9 or VOY ships.

So if you have an idea please post a picture and we'll take a vote on it. I will then texture to suit.

over to you guys.

P.S any body volunteer to convert from max format to work in the game?

You could always use it for the Gagarin Class, which was a nice late TMP "Lost Era" type ship.

The Gagarin's a good choice, also any of Centurus' connies.

I've decided to go another route and will use my connie project to make a TNG era connie exterior to go with this bridge.

What are MSD's?

Master Systems Display, which basically is a cutout side view of the ship with all the decks and such.
Title: Re: TNG era Connie style bridge
Post by: baz1701 on October 14, 2008, 02:48:57 PM
Ah, well I just thought that was part of the LCARS. Since there is a ship to go with the bridge there will be a cut away display on the back wall.

As stated earlier the LCARS will not be canon but of my own design (but if somebody comes up with any I'd take them).

Like wise still looking for some one to aid converting the model for the game.
Title: Re: TNG era Connie style bridge
Post by: JimmyB76 on October 14, 2008, 05:38:09 PM
i know i mentioned it before, but what about all the animating, scripting, lightmapping, etc?
will this really wind up in BC?  of course, i hope it does...  but we've seen so many models of bridges throughout the years only stay at that...   models...
Title: Re: TNG era Connie style bridge
Post by: Barihawk on October 14, 2008, 09:22:39 PM
Or get completely rerouted to Excalibur :P.

Good luck on this, buddy.
Title: Re: TNG era Connie style bridge
Post by: baz1701 on October 15, 2008, 04:56:24 AM
Well I hope to see the bridge and the ship in the game but I need a partner who has done all that. I'd hand over the ship and bridge lit and textured. But would not know where to start in the scripting animating crew ect.

So I put it out there is you want this in the game I can only get it so far on my own.

Post by: JimmyB76 on October 15, 2008, 07:41:10 AM
i wish i knew anything about animating - id be happy to do it myself...  scripting, i can do (im pretty sure anyway)...  lightmapping, im still noobish on; but animations, im pretty clueless about those... :(
Title: Re: TNG era Connie style bridge
Post by: limey BSc. on October 15, 2008, 07:47:17 AM
The scripting is pretty easy. I managed to get an animation ingame without much trouble. The hardest part for me is the lightmapping.
Title: Re: TNG era Connie style bridge
Post by: JimmyB76 on October 15, 2008, 07:48:38 AM
perhaps, when the time comes, you could give a shot at animating the characters?  personally, i always wished i could learn about the animating aspect of bridges...
i could possibly work with you on the lightmapping - since we're both kinda noobish at it lol :)

Post by: baz1701 on October 15, 2008, 09:41:06 AM
well I'm more than happy to turn it over to you guys to convert it.

I have had a go at the MSD, opinions?

nice MSD!  i wish i could whip up MSD's seemingly so easy like that :)
Title: Re: TNG era Connie style bridge
Post by: baz1701 on October 15, 2008, 10:30:29 AM
Well I did release the TMP bridge a long time ago. There is over 40 downloads of the max file but so far no one has said if they were using it or even feed back if they liked it. I'd love to see either bridge used in the game. Though I think some people are waiting for The Enterprise Project to be released as to be honest it looks far better than mine.

nice MSD!  i wish i could whip up MSD's seemingly so easy like that :)

Thanks, I rendered the ship (See other thread) then imported the BMP into MS paint and painted over it. I got a Galaxy class MSD as ref and reproduced the basics on to mine.
Title: Re: TNG era Connie style bridge
Post by: JimmyB76 on October 15, 2008, 11:29:10 AM
i would love to learn how to do them sometime...  i have so many retextured bridges, if i could make different MSDs for them, then i could use them for specific ships in my install...

sorry, im going a bit offtopic now - ill stop lol :P

Yes have to watch out for the moderators

I have started the helm LCARS, pretty much copying a ref pic of the Ent-D but it a start

Im liking the design, you ought to get yourself a better program for making LCARS though, something like inkscape. :)

Keep up the work matey :D

added more detail and re-build the view screen
Title: Re: TNG era Connie style bridge
Post by: Darkthunder on October 15, 2008, 05:36:47 PM
Here's a quick modelling job by me, with some ideas as to the look of the viewscreen. Don't think any of the canon ships had a rounded viewscreen in the way yours is to be honest.

The black panel on top of my screen would be a copy of the TMP-screen which had a digital onboard clock.
Title: Re: TNG era Connie style bridge
Post by: baz1701 on October 15, 2008, 06:13:08 PM
I like your viewscreen but I would have to bend it to fit my hull. I made it bigger because someone said it was too small.

I don't think the picture really does it justice

I'm starting to think crew now.

Uniforms?

Early TNG (Season 1 and 2)
Late TNG (season 3 onwards)
DS9/Voy
Or
Pre TNG (1701-C and Tapestry post hybrid movie uniforms)

I know you said be gentle and I am but they look a bit cartoonish. If you you add the leterring and symbols and stuff to the buttons they'll look perfect.

Should I add a weapons station simular to the TMP bridge?

I would say yes.  But that's my opinion.  It would be a way of incorporating some of the more early TMP traditional bridge layout philosophies into a newer era.
Title: Re: TNG era Connie style bridge
Post by: firehawk on December 10, 2008, 05:13:14 AM
actualy the bridge has an ambassadr class feel, not the one we seen on tv or in mos..but what it should ideally have been like..it looks like a cross between theGaaxy bridge and the TMP conny bridge

don't get me wrong it works as a conny bridge..but i can see it being re textured as an ambassador class
Title: Re: TNG era Connie style bridge

Well when it is released as with all my work I'd be happy if someone wanted to alter it.

I'd go with a modified Defiant-Class bridge with an upgraded Constitution-Class M.S.D.

Truthfully, that's all you honestly ~need~.
