I love you.
Seriously, this is really awesome! I'll tell you what, I'll see if I can pull some screencaps from the cutscenes of the game as well as the in-game models to give you a few reference points.
-
Thanks Toa that would be helpful. Phoenix gave me some help and i'm rebuilding it at the moment so it's more in line with the Cut scene version. The engines are giving me a headache at the moment.
-
Double post but it's progress! :D

Here, I got these screencaps from the cutscenes of the game. They're of the Navy Frigate as well as the Navy Comms Craft. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, I couldn't get them any bigger :/

They have been helpful and here is a 'nearly' finished mesh.

Not bad at all, not familiar with the design but from model review she looks clean. I would add a smooth group to the indented ring edge and you'll have a winner.
-
just told him to drag it down to make it look right, i've not explain smoothing groups to him yet gimme a chance :P
-
I have done Baz :D And Phoenix without you this mesh wouldn't be here so massive thanks to ya. Kinda made a dream come true.
As far as I am aware this is first Colony Wars ship i've seen modelled outside the game. Once it's done it'll be up for download. ;)
Texture work started.

She is done! I know it has some issues but I'm really happy how it came out. Phoenix I couldn't have done it without ya and all the support from all you guys. :D

-
The Colonial Cruiser is under way! :D All Empire ships are mostly just kitbashes of each other but from a design standpoint they are modular hence why there are so many of them. Should be done soon. :D

Good start on it so far :) Here are a couple of concept art pictures of the Blizzard and the Stormlord that I was able to scavenge from the Colony Wars website. Hope these help you out!

-
I've never seen them before Toa, thanks. :)
On releasing stuff i'm going to do it in packs, so they'll be two fleet packs, two fighter packs, civilian craft pack and a station pack. Seems like a lot but i've been doing each bit incrementally and i'm quite enjoying it.
To keep things fresh I started on the League DN
(https://imageshack.us/scaled/large/689/ldnwip.jpg)
-
Mesh nearly done just a few tweaks and what not. Not bad that I got this out of 3 boxes with a 5x5x5 segments and I feel like cack. Texture work to start tomorrow.
-
Looking good! I think there may have been a small strut off the top of the middle or rear module, but my memory is fuzzy. I'll get you some more screencaps tomorrow :)
-
Unwrapping this thing is proving to be a pain in the arse. :banghead:
-
reminds me of this old cargo ship i was retexing before my comp bit the dust. that thing had the worst UV. needed a complete reset on it :P so, I know where your coming from, there.
-
Yeah it's proving to be a bit of a pain but I think i'm getting there. It's just unwrapping it is actually harder than modelling the thing.
Update on the texture front. Using speculars to give it the worn look.
-
League DN pretty much done.

A few days a go a college I applied for to get onto a Computer game design and animation course sent me a letter for an interview. It asked for a portfolio of work including a 3d model. So in an effort to fine tune my 3D modelling I decided to have a go at the Iowa class, a concept by Ryan Church which subsequently became the Kelvin. Here she is so far.
Currently sitting at 3068 polies

*The Colony Wars stuff is still on track just forgot to post some progress. It will come soon. :)
-
Looking mighty fine.
-
very nice model dude
-
Thank you Gentlemen, two solid days work on her. Should be done by the end of the evening.
I also have to say a big thanks to all the tutorials on here, really helped speed up the process.
A quick look at the textures on the saucer.

A few tweaks need to be made but other that she is done. :)
She is my first Star Trek ship, hopefully i'l make some more one day. She is just over 3200 polies. I''l put her up for download once i've done the necessary tweaks.
-
You know at that poly count, it doesn't really need much to be put into BC. :P
-
hope to see more Killawoks... thats a great ship that is
:yay:
-
You know at that poly count, it doesn't really need much to be put into BC. :P
QFT
-
Well it shouldn't take too much to get her in there, all the textures are a 1:1 ratio so I don't see any problems there to converting them into 1024's and 2048's. The actual poly count is 3,733 (I should look harder next time). Once that's done just a case of hardpointing it.
Could be something to look into.
-
Download the model here: http://killabc.deviantart.com/art/USS-Iowa-384066264

Just a question about your colony wars ships, are you just doing them from 1 game or are you going to do ships from every game? (just an FYI but CW:Red Sun is the only Colony Wars game iv'e played)

Only the first one, it's my favourite one and the designs are a bit better.
-
Considering i've lost everything in the System restore here's something new.
-
A bit of an update, as you may have noticed the New Orleans page hasn't been updated as its got to go on the back burner for a bit. The reason for this is that my college course has started and so another modelling project has to take precedence. Which may please some people actually because I have to recreate some models from old games, any pre 2000 game. Soooo here she is...
Because these models have to game usable she is all one unified mesh.
-
Oh so much more smoother than the last, well done man, glade i helped get u started

Thanks Nix, finished her up, hope my Teacher approves. :funny

Gorgeous! ^_^

Nice little ship! With some tweaking, the basic shape could even become a Tholian ship.
-
Pure nostalgia trip :D
-
Looks like a stretched Tie Phantom!
Great!
-
Thanks guys she is certainly a different design when it comes to space fighters.
-
Yep, it sure could be a Tholian, you got to figure they have updated :D :yay:
-
Wow. Really nice work.
You guys are right. When I look at it, I see three possible Fed TMP engines, and the front can be converted to a Fed Deflector dish. Looks like it can be a Tholian/Fed Hybrid.
Great job. Can't wait to see the textures.

Vortex is right. That color scheme is perfection. Very well done! I love it

that's another one that could go with a Tholian deco, as well. I could also see that with an orion or Gorn deco. nice, clean, and simple design, that.

Gotcha. Thanks dude. I really can't wait for these ships, very unique.
Adam
-
Had a bad today so in order to remain calm I made an original Star Trek ship!
A mid sized cruiser for the TLE era, includes a wireframe. Taken into account the proportions so I'll likely size it up to see how big it is.
And yes that is a Shuttlebay at the bottom of the engineering section.

Can't believe I never saw this until now. I was a huge fan of CW. They look exactly the way I remember then.

Thanks Mario, gotta keep the game alive!
And Adam you may like what I've done with he ship now. Completely rebuilt the Saucer and secondary hull so its more smooth and aligned this time. The Nacelles stay. :P I've also named it the USS Tyson as suggested on Facebook.
-
That's a cool ship. My only recommendation would be to maybe add a little depth the the secondary hull. It looks a little flat in the side view.
-
I noticed that too Vortex and I have pulled the hull down a bit to bulk it out.
Started texturing the top saucer, have to say it's certainly better than my previous texture jobs.
-
I like it.
Is this from the Ambassador Era, by the low number of windows it seems smaller than a Heavycruiser. Any info on this baby?
Adam
-
Great start on the textures. My only comment is the escape pods and the windows are out of scale. Either the windows are hugh or the escape pods can take maybe 1 or 2 crewmen. Looking at the size of the bridge I'd say it is the windows are too big.
-
Judging by the curvature of the saucer, the windows might be just the right size. They may be only two meters in height, but the relative flatness of the saucer stretches that out, just like most of the windows on the Galaxy class.
This is of course one of the major issues rectifying external design with internal. Picard's quarters' windows have a curvature matching more closely to a saucer rim window than the hugely elongated windows shown a couple decks higher than Ten Forward.
-
Thanks for the feedback guys, in theory the design can still work with the windows at their current size however in relation to the escape pods and the ships mission profile decreasing the size of them may not be a bad idea. This will also add another couple of decks to the saucer which would increase volume. It would also give me the opportunity to add more windows between the two current rows now. Also I don;t want too many windows, this ain't no luxury liner. :P
The ship for all intensive purposes is designed to go to areas of space all ready discovered by deep space vessels (Such as the Ambassador) and map, survey do all the science stuff. As well as be ready for perimeter action on outlying borders. She can operate independently for a recommended two to three years before needing to resupply and re-crew. I'm unsure of crew complement as of yet but I doubt it would be a lot.
-
Just remember that you've already started making it a small vessel virtue of the sizes of the shuttlebay, torpedo launcher, saucer rim, and bridge. It can't get much larger without those becoming nonsensical.
-
Oh no it's not much different in fact it looks a bit better now and more in proportion.
-
Very interesting. Looking fwd to seeing more.
-
More texturing.
-
I didn't think much of the design at first but the textures are bringing something interesting out.
I like the early registry number, certainly fits the ship's style.
-
I agree. These textures are really something special. It's coming out very beautiful. Thanks
-
Damn it, Killa!! You're inspiring designs here. I've already got two ships to do this year. xD
The textures do look great.
-
I can't wait to see this finished.

My goodness. The metallic look is phenomenally done.
I've never seen it so realistic. This is coming out very very good.
If only I could kidnap you to do models all the time
Thanks bro. Please finish her up :angel
Adam
-
Looking great. :yay:
-
Very nice. I agree that you've done something very special with the textures on this ship. The metallic look is really adding a lot of realism to the work. I'm looking forward to seeing more.
-
agreed fantastic... HOW did you achieve that effect though?
-
The effect was achieved by removing the elements that wouldn't reflect then duplicating the layers. Once they were all merged I would fiddle about in the layer editor and go back and froth changing levels until I got an effect that looks right.
Started on the Nacelles now.

Really like her, take a cookie.

Finishing her up now.

It's coming along very very nicely. Thanks

Ship looks great... however:
There appears to be some smoothing issues on the nacelles. Looks a lot more "blocky" compared to the rest of the nacelles.

Fine looking ship, remind me of the New Orleans.
Just a thought, are those shuttle bays in the undercut? Given the apparent size of the ship, two shuttle bays there may be a little small.

They be cargo bays.
-
I forgot that you had that shuttle bay in the fantail.
-
I would say it be a predecessor to the New Orleans via the Ambasassador Tech line but the nacelles are too TNG and not pre tng.
It's beautiful though.

Giving something different a go.

Looks like a good start.
-
Thanks, done a bit more and I'm now off to bed.

Further reworked the neck and unified it to the Saucer and engineering hull. Getting the Pylons into position and ready for cutting in.

I rather like this. Any plans on doing a Phase II/TMP version?
-
Wow!
-
I rather like this. Any plans on doing a Phase II/TMP version?
Might do depends how burnt out I feel once I've done it. :funny
Thanks Mckinney!
-
Asia mesh pretty much done.

-
One thought would be to add a "Phase 2" style torpedo tube above the deflector dish (in the neck). Other than that small detail, the mesh looks great :)
-
^^ Agreed, the rest of the ship looks great, the neck looks a little blank. The Phase II launcher would suit it well.
Great work overall, though.
-
I'm sorry but I might be shot down here for being controversial but I feel I can stay silent no longer regarding the ships I've seen on this thread.
They need to be in the main BC modding section. This is a waste of talent and need to get them into BC, Hell we need the fresh blood over there.
This ship looks great.
-
Thanks guys, regarding the launcher in the neck. i'm keeping this to the original drawing 100% as I want to be faithful to the design. However I did do an experiment with a launcher and if I do a Phase Two style then it would definitely go in.
Well Baz the ships I make are more than welcome to be ported to BC, however I wouldn't have a clue of how to get them in and neither unfortunately do I have the time to learn. Been busy with the Armada 3 project and college certainly eat up my time. :funny
Here's some texturing. :D

The saucer reminds me of the Constellation Class's saucer. It's coming along nicely.
Adam
-
Looking awesome.
-
The properly supported pylons caught my eye immediately.
I've been trying to modify the constitution to be more sound and this i one of the methods I considered but a better concept that I cam up with.
-
She's pretty much done! So here's a quick render.
-
Good ship and rendering!
-
Great looking tos ship is this Asia class anything like the other ones on BcFiles? there's one there that has some differen't things on the top of the nacelle are you going to implement something like that on yours?
-
No, i'm keeping exactly to the schematic for this one.
-
K,
I hope its okay to ask you here on this thread?
I just recently DLd your Tyson, boy I'm excited, its a beauty, quick question, in the front of the model by the neck, that's the torpedo launcher, right?, then you have an identical texture for the aft of the primary hull, what's that on the bottom rear tip of the secondary hull, two squares, I ask bc even the Galaxy Class has that tiny thing at the bottom rear but they look similar to launchers but aren't consistent with the others on the models. Thanks and Thank You Again...
Adam
-
No problem, it's a Tractor beam emitter. :)
-
:D
Oh. Heehee. My bad. Ty
-
A bit of a re-imagining of the Asia, in between ENT-TOS style with a dash of Kelvin.
-
Throw in a single "Phase 2" torpedo tube in the front of the neck, and you have a winner :)
-
More progress.
Not quite Phase two style though I kind of like a blockier look to it. Looks more primitive. ;)
-
If you round off the Corners of that tube, it may look more in flow with you design.
-
How about taking the photon launch the next step by narrowing the front to a square. The single launcher looks alittle lost in the wide front.
-
Well I got completely absorbed in the process and textured the damn thing. I made the launcher more tight as you suggested Baz and it does look a lot better.
Still need to make bumps.

It's coming along really well. I'm fond of the deflector too.
-
Love the ship, love the modelling, love the textures and love the name. 'Endeavour' has been my go to name for years and years.

Agreed the Launcher is much better

simply amazing!

Interesting design. Why my Fed side has such an urge to lock torpedoes on that skinny neck

What about making the disruptors more cylindrical?
