And I was so looking forward to seeing this film.
That 'all action, no esscence' trailer has put me right off it again.
*cookied*
that was one of my thoughts...

You guys have to remember that these trailers aren't designed to cater only to the Trekkies, these are trailers showcasing some of the action-y stuff to draw in people who typically think of Star Trek as "lame" or "corny", etc. etc. etc.  If Paramount is smart, they'll do a third trailer in the next month or so, maybe showing a slow fly-by of the Enterprise with either Pine's Kirk or Nimoy's Spock doing the famous "Space, the final frontier" monologue, hopefully to Giacciano's score.  Of course, that's putting a lot of faith in an advertising department which, so far, tends to be overhyping the effects.

The effects are solid, there can't be any arguing that.  The basis for a good Trek movie is there, and if that teaser was any indication, Urban is going to steal the show as McCoy.  I just pray that out of anything they borrowed from Star Wars, I hope they didn't borrow the "effects ARE the story" approach of the prequel trilogy.  The characters need to propel the story, not the pretty, pretty big bangs.  As of right now, that's the only thing that has me worried, and honestly, it's a slight worry for me.  I haven't been this excited about something Star Trek since First Contact.  Now, it could backfire and turn into yet another Nemesis, but as a certain pointy-eared, green blooded hobgoblin is fond of saying, "There are always possibilities."

Considering what happened with Enterprise, Nemesis and the general Opinion of most people, not to mention the TOS purists the outlook for ST11 isn't Promising, if it fails it will most likely fail badly and take the franchise along with it...

If it does fail then my bet is that we wont be seeing anymore Star Trek for quite some time

Like enterprise and Nemesis I'll be going to see it and keeping an open mind.

Ya know, its like Doctor Who all over again. The producers are pushing it over the edge and these days, there are other things keeping it going like Bridge Commander and its community. Give it a break for twenty years and you'll have Christopher Eccleston in the centre chair.

Or the cheese theory:
When you first make its digusting. Leave it for a bit, come back later and its perfect.
"To live on as we have is to leave behind joy, and love, and companionship, because we know it to be transitory, of the moment. We know it will turn to ash. Only those whose lives are brief can imagine that love is eternal. You should embrace that remarkable illusion. It may be the greatest gift your race has ever received."

aaaaaand that trailer, aired during the Superbowl of all things, is gonna make people think that this new movie is absolutely not lame and corny???   LOL
thats exactly what i thought when i saw this trailer, and im a huge trek fan...  for those who arent trek fans, would likely think ten times worse than i do, based on that cheesetastic trailer theyve chosen to air for the Superbowl...
i mean, come on now...  thats the best they could do for the Superbowl commercial??

You came to that conclusion after the whole two words he spoke?.

Well, the commercial has had a decent effect on non-Trekkies.  In my biology class, which consists of two Star Trek fans, the teach and myself, the other students had no idea there was a such thing as Star Trek without William Shatner in the Captain's chair, and opinions of the trailer ranged from "I'd like to see that" to "you know, it wouldn't kill me to see this movie."  I think that that is a big leap forward.  This film will preserve the franchise if it has mass appeal, and it'll set Star Trek up for a great follow-up by doing so, like TMP did for Wrath of Khan.  I must say the the Motion Picture was a very slow movie, which lacked a great deal of stuff, but it breathed enough life into Trek for it to utter KHANNNNN!!!! and then we had another quarter century of activity.  And, if it turns out to be the next Khan, then we have nothing to worry about.

Considering that, IMO, that little scene was the best part of the whole commercial, yes. :P

BTW, someone on TrekMovie.com pointed out that the bottle Kirk smashes into a cadet's head is Saurian Brandy. ;)

I really liked the trailer. Makes me want to see the film all the more now which is what trailers are designed to do.

As for San Fransisco being attacked, so what if we've seen it again. Some episodes in Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise were just rehashings of certain concepts. Also the city is the headquarters of Starfleet and has the Federation Council chambers so of course it's going to be a prime target for an insane character with a huge weapon at his disposal!

The shot of the Enterprise doing what she does best, kicking ass in style, really made me go 'hurry up stinking year! I want it to be May!'

Ahhh, but the office of the President of the Federation is in Paris. :P

And I agree, I want it to be May already!

Well, we just have to wait and find something to employ ourselves in until May, lol.

...finding something better to do, though, may not be possible.

Well, on multiple sites, the Trek trailer ranked second, mostly behind Transformers 2.  That's definitely saying something.

I'm getting somewhat enthusiastic about the new movie actually. Considering the two most anticipated movies of 2009 are both written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, they're might still exist some hope for the new Star Trek movie :P

They made up the excuse that it's an alternate timeline or some rubbish to justify calling Nimoy out from his luxurious home to sit in a tiny, cramped set they claim to be a timeship or whatever. I dunno. I'm only going to see it so I can laugh and wave goodbye to trek. :arms:
