You guys have to remember that these trailers aren't designed to cater only to the Trekkies, these are trailers showcasing some of the action-y stuff to draw in people who typically think of Star Trek as "lame" or "corny", etc. etc. etc. If Paramount is smart, they'll do a third trailer in the next month or so, maybe showing a slow fly-by of the Enterprise with either Pine's Kirk or Nimoy's Spock doing the famous "Space, the final frontier" monologue, hopefully to Giacciano's score. Of course, that's putting a lot of faith in an advertising department which, so far, tends to be overhyping the effects.
The effects are solid, there can't be any arguing that. The basis for a good Trek movie is there, and if that teaser was any indication, Urban is going to steal the show as McCoy. I just pray that out of anything they borrowed from Star Wars, I hope they didn't borrow the "effects ARE the story" approach of the prequel trilogy. The characters need to propel the story, not the pretty, pretty big bangs. As of right now, that's the only thing that has me worried, and honestly, it's a slight worry for me. I haven't been this excited about something Star Trek since First Contact. Now, it could backfire and turn into yet another Nemesis, but as a certain pointy-eared, green blooded hobgoblin is fond of saying, "There are always possibilities."
