eh I'd relate it to a modern day cruise ship....

They have great rooms and hallways until you get to the utility decks...
Then everything turns to crap.

like so

Also, the TOS engineering had pipes and valves.  Honestly, we'll see what happens, but if you ask me...Scotty's probably going to do what he has to to get his bairns into shape. ;)

EDIT: Official site has updated, see full list of updates here: http://trekmovie.com/2009/05/01/official-star-trek-site-updated-with-final-dossiers-new-info-section-more/

I hate the look of Main Engineering on the Kelvin and the Enterprise.

Making it look like a waterworks warehouse just makes me realize where cost-cutting has affected the production badly.

Considering that this movie has had the highest budget to date since Star Trek: TMP, I don't exactly see where the "costcutting" comes into play. I think what we've seen of Engineering so far, looks just fine. Nothing on this ship will look exactly like it did back in the 60's and that is to be expected.

Ok now they ruined it for me, I could grow to like every other room on the ship but now they've spoiled it with the Titantic's engine room.

It's like JJ and the ILM boys must think the Enterprise is the a size of a Star Destroyer or something because even a shot of the hanger deck looks grossly over scaled.

Considering that the Kelvin is an old design and has more relation to the NX class than the Constitution, and also the banged up condition its in, I imagine that Engineering is just right. And remember, we've only seen bits of it. So we don't know what the whole thing looks like till the film comes out and we've seen it.

As for the shuttle bay on the JJPrise: Maybe this shuttle bay goes further back than the TOS one. And theres a good chance that JJPrise is wider than a TOS-Prise.

I too am disappointed with the engine room, but we'll see how it plays out.  It is nice to see Scotty in his element rather than "Can I get a towel?"  Poor Scotty's obviously never hitchhiked in space before.  :P

Even the NX's engine room followed certain principles that had been part of Starfleet interior and exterior design ever since Matt Jefferies put pencil to paper, god rest his soul.

Also Jimmy I think you and I were twins seperated at birth lol

Nebula took the words right out of my mouth. Engine room isn't meant to look spiffy, it's meant to do it's job. The only personnel that would see it are the ones who are meant to.

And again, more that was taken right from my mouth has to be that "This isn't your fathers star trek". Raise your hand if you thought the TNG engineering room was hideous when you first saw it? That wasn't that generations trek either.

...Probably not, but the number I get(379.6m) could be considered ?original intent,? a term that I think I will be using from now on, and ?canon? be damned.

And also, like I said before, we may not have seen all of the Kelvin's engineering in from the clips we've seen. So hold your judgement till you've seen it.

Looks like you lot and the people behind this movie are grounded in the 21st Century. This thing is set in the 23rd Century so why should the engine room look like a steamship's from the early 20th Century?

Matt Jefferies designed the future and it's sad to say that some fans and the people running Trek now have become so short sighted that they've forgotten what that he and Gene set out to do all those years ago.

This isn't Star Wars, we don't need everything spouting steam and dimly lit. Perhaps everyone should remember that.

However Dalek is right, I will, if I can bring myself to actually go now, reserve my final judgements until I see everything in context.

eh the engine room on the Kelvin could be dimly lit like the rest of the ship because well it's under attack :P
(we don't even know where Kelvin's engineering room is... for all we know it could be in the nacelle itself.)

also the TOS engineering never had a true warp core like what was seen in later series.
(thinking about it the TOS engineering we've seen could have just been the control room)

We're not stuck in the 21st Century. We're appreciating what we have been given, whether it be what we want or not.

Matt Jefferies did design the future and Gene sent of the bill and look at what has happened! It's kept been alive for 40 years and it's still going on. You make it sound like you're giving up on Trek because its changed and evolved differently to how you expected.

Just because JJ has made radical changes, doesn't we still have all the old stuff.

If anything I'm surprised. Shatner likes the JJPrise.

Because Takei isn't on it.

Look I am trying to keep an open mind and seeing the old girl flying and kicking anus in the trailers has made me say to myself 'it's not all bad'.

Star Trek has always had a unique look and feel to it and to be honest there are times I look at it and it feels just like any other sci fi film set in space, it looks too Star Wars like.

But if the characters pull my heart strings and I get swept away with the story then I'll forgive all the shortcomings we've seen so far and look forward to more voyages of the Enterprise. After all isn't that the heart of it all? The characters, their adventures and ship called Enterprise.

Hallelujuah! The be-all and end-all of Trek! Thats why I think the ST: New Frontier crew would work so well. It's just got the personality of our favourite characters and more new ones! Bring on Kebron!

and ship called Enterprise.

Yeah. Shame some peeps don't like its current shape.

heh, I don't like the shape of the new Ent entirely, but I don't go out of my way to hate it either.
It has its charm.

I'm not really sure what I like about it. I think it's the nacelles. There's just something awesome about their size and their aerofoils. :P C'mon Wiley with the v3!
