Addendum to my post above ^^.

The plastic/rounded look of the deflector grid and windows was not really visible at all in the in-game screenshots you posted.  Only in the shots with the total black background that you had posted prior.  The edges of the hull did still appear rounded in the in-game shots, but without the grid pattern, it looks much less like plastic and more like a smooth painted surface in-game.

Don't blame DJ for the plastic look, Blame BC!  The way DJ has set up the textures is the way it has to be done for advanced rendering as you can see in his pre-rendered screenshots with the Bump-Mapping.  DJ could add more detail to the textures for BC but that's just faking it so it looks better in BC.  I'm sure if he wants to, he can do that for the BC Mod when he releases it.

His approximation of how it will look in the NanoFX Game Engine shows you guys it's a BC issue not his model/textures.

In part, that's what NanoFX GE (and Excalibur) is about. I suggest a visit to www.nanofx.org or www.stexcalibur.com for more information.

NanoFX GE is not meant for BC.
They built that GE for game-developers to use.

@Topic: tbower was right. I looked at the Screenshots again and i have to admit that the spots that botherd me on that textures of DJ's were those edges. With the last details added, this could change. ;)

By "they" your referring to a single person: Nanobyte. Lost_Jedi is also involved in coding the project, but Nano is the leader behind it. I'd really suggest you get your facts straight before claiming to know what's really going on. Excalibur (which will be the first project developed on the NanoFX GE engine) will have very similar gameplay to that of Bridge Commander, with highly increased visuals compared to both Bridge Commander and Legacy. Check our site for the latest update on the graphics from Nano, and keep in mind that it's still very early in development. Excalibur will have both the tactical controls of Bridge Commander, as well as certain FPS element found in games like Elite Force. Lost_Jedi can clarify this part better than I, as the entire FPS structure of the engine is done by him.

On Topic: Yes, the Galaxy class does look fantastic, and it will be really great when it's ready for use both in BC and NanoFX GE/Excalibur. DJ's Galaxy will likely be the "stock" model of Excalibur :P

Of course "Excalibur" will be using the NanoFX GE and it will be similar to BC but you said that the GE is about to be implemented into BC, what definately IS a wrong fact.

Now let's put that aside and focus on the Galaxy again. ;)

I've NEVER said that NanoFX GE is to be implemented in BC. I've been saying quite the contrary. Alot of people early on that NanoFX GE was intended for BC which I have adamently saying it was not. Don't know where you got the impression that I had said it was for BC cause that is definitely mis-information.

It's very nice, but I don't see much difference from CE's Galaxy. I am sure this thing will look absolutely amazing in Excalibur, but BC's limits have been reached as far as texture. Unless this offers some crazy hardpoint change, I am fine with what I have. However, this is being built with Excalibur in mind, so once the game becomes available, DJ's will blow all the others out of the water.

However, she's a beautiful model. I hope you will make a Venture variant to go along with her, and I might just indeed replace CE's pack with her.

CE's Galaxy looks really good. However it is still based on the P81 Galaxy which pretty much all of us know aint no picknick of a model. It's got its fair shares of flaws and inaccuracies. DJs Galaxy will be released both for BC and with Excalibur so I wouldn't worry.

The overall shape of the secondary hull is similar, but DJ's model is simply one of the best ever made for BC and any other Star Trek game for that matter. I'm also really liking his work with the textures which are precisely mapped to the model giving it a nice clean look. It's good to see a Galaxy that looks and feels original.

It's a quality piece of work, hats off to DJ for this latest masterpiece.

It's nice to have my favorite shipbuilder's sponsorship of the new ship. To be honest I am not an absolute stickler for detail so I don't even notice the inaccuracies of your model. But you are right that his textures are spot on (and probably a lot easier to manage--I hate wrapping).

At the very least I will still be using your Venture refit. Until I downloaded your models, the Galaxy was one of my least favorite ships. Now it's my favorite :D.

Just a brief update.  Neb got in touch with me and pointed out a few areas that needed some tweaking.  Since then, I've added the rear sensor strip, the observation lounge windows, and a few missing decals.

Here is an ingame comparison pic of my ship (before the latest changes) compared with what is currently available.  I chose to compare with CE's SNS/p81 because it has a more similar body style.
