Honestly, you'd probably be better served just sticking to your previous design and streamlining and smoothing the areas that need it...but that's just me, I could be wrong. :P

i was satisfied with the deflector from the previous build as it paid good homage to the century class, which was the inspiration for your later builds

Yeah... I may just go back to the old mesh and work my butt off to clean it up as best I can, and just rebuild certain components... I'm not liking where this new mesh is going. Not one bit.

Dedication if I ever saw it. You sir, have made a number of awesome versions of this ship, and I envy you for it. Keep up your great work, you've got my download for sure (When you're finally happy with a model! ).

Agreed.  Another example is, look at how many sketches Matt Jeffries did before they finally settled on the design of the Enterprise.

UPDATE!!  :D :D

Just a few early wip pics... obviously there's still a lot of work needing to be done, but this should give you an idea of what we're looking at with this new mesh. I'm never telling you the poly count. Ever. it's a secret. xD

pics...

Looking really go so far
"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

Beautiful as always. Each design you've done caught my eye, and this is no different. Whatever she winds up looking like, I'm positive it'll be amazing. You can have the first cookie I'm able to give out! You definately deserve it.

I usually don't post twice in the same thread before the author posts something, but I just realized this Aeries.  Done right, your ship could almost be an Akira-like version of the Legacy. ^_^

I never looked at it that way, but since you bring it up mister Shadowknight dude...

The Mithra is a combination of many, MANY things, and is based off of an old starship I've been designing and redesigning since I was 12 years old. Her original name was "Mockingbird", which was later changed to "Serenity", and now Mithra. The original inspiration was more like a kitbash of a sovereign saucer and nacelles, with a sleeker Intrepid-style secondary hull and an akira secondary hull... yes, a second and third hull. It actually looked kinda cool.. too bad I don't have any of my old sketches anymore...

Anyways, now, I've seen a lot of new ships and custom designs, and what particularly brought me back to the starship I abandoned a few years ago was DJ's Century & Vivace. So it was back to the Serenity and the drawing board. That's where my interest in 3d modelling REALLY sprung into action, and I started a whole new approach to the ship. The rest of the long history is here, in this thread, and still her history is being written. My current inspirations are too numerous... whenever I need ideas, I often jump over to sci fi meshes and check out some of the beautiful works done there. Kaden's Legacy Class was, indeed, an inspiration... there's something about that ship that just draws me in... I like it. There's also the Century, and two of Renger's ships... the Ancheron and the little nova-like one he made... I don't remember the name. :/

But yeah. There you have it... a little history. The model itself has been just over 6 months in development but the ship's design has been years in the making. :] She's my baby...

Also, I'm very sorry for the lack of progress. My new job has me in absolute sh** by the time I get home and I have no energy for hardly anything other than chatting, 'cause my brain is generally mush. I have a couple days off on thursday and Friday, so maybe I'll have some stuff to show you those nights. Again, sorry for the delays. Hope you understand.

If anyone has any design propositions or any material they think may give me some inspiration or ideas, please don't hesitate to show it or link me or let me know. Any and all help/C&C is appreciated. I want her to be perfect... in the end, the Borg will scream in jealousy.
