Curios folks
« on: February 01, 2008, 08:13:13 AM »
is there a way to tell, if the BC cd\dvd is a legitimate copy, I mean with all the cd\dvd copying programs out there how can you tell.

Figured this ought to come out in the Open, we have always (rightly so) talked about pirated copies and CD cracks.

But for those getting one No-A-Days (I bought mine when it came out), How can you be sure it is a legit CD? :?

Well the original is a pressed disc which is usually slightly thicker than a copied disc due to the protective layer of plastic.
Obviously the BC artwork on the CD, and the professional print quality of the manual and sleeve insert, should all be clues.

Depending where you get it from is obviously a major factor. If you get it from a reputable highstreet or online store its pretty safe bet its legit.
From somewhere like ebay though is  a much bigger risk.

How can we tell the difference, without calipers (fine measuring tools).

Isn't it pretty easy to copy CD artwork?

Did Activision ever release a BC on CD with the Patch already installed?

and any BC dvd is pirated, cause BC never came out on DVDs.

To the first a writable CD will feel rough to the touch on the underside (it has no plastic shield)

To the second I've never tried.

I don't follow you, Ive got some pretty smooth feeling CD writeables, maybe it is my sense of touch, but I could not see or fell a difference between my stack of blank CD, the ones I have copied data to, and the Orginial BC disk.

Hmm, maybe its the writable's I'm using.
Anyway if you look at a writable that has data on it, you'll see that the data shows as a slightly different colour on the disc surface where the writing laser has discoloured it.

I see your point,

So we can conclude, it is the Paint Job on the disk, the quality of the printed manual, and the wirte surface.

Well... erm.

I always thought that it was a matter of looking wither the non-sticker side is grey or not? Have there ever been writable cds that are not kind of greenish, bluish, yellowish etc?

Yes, because mine is the patched version on the CD that I bought when the game was still out new for sale.
