Ok, all of the body has now been modeled.  I also added a number of the phaser arrays, as well as the torpedo launchers behind the bridge and below the deflector.  Added the thrusters to the saucer.  I also optimized a bunch of the saucer mesh to use a lot fewer polygons.  Hopefully when I'm done I'll be in the range of 16-18k polygons.

I still have to model the two torpedo launchers on the ventral aft quarter, as well as the pylon phaser arrays.  Then there's a bunch more details I want to add along the spine, on the captain's yacht/quantum torpedo launcher, around the bridge and the main shuttlebay doors.  Probably other stuff too.

Anyhow, I'm really pleased with how the model's shaped up! :D  I gotta say, though, my hands and arms hurt like hell from all the time I've spent on this over the weekend.

hmm are ya going to add the torp tube that's under the bridge section?

outstanding btw :D I don't think that can ever be said enough.
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

That's some outstanding work there, DJ. The model looks very clean and crisp, yet very smooth. You've done the sovereign justice, and I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say, thank you.

If I may ask, what's the polycount on her? And what other details/greebles do you have planned, if any?

Simply incredible!  I'm still amazed by how quickly you've gotten most of it finished while paying so close attention to accuracy and detail.

Since it's Tuesday, I decided to install a tractor beam and some torpedo launchers.  A few other things too.  Here's a list of additions:

-added torp launcher in front of bridge, above the rear shuttle bay, below the rear shuttle bay
-added phaser arrays to nacelle pylons
-added lateral sensor inlets to the back of the pylons
-refined forward torpedo launcher
-refined torpedo launcher behind bridge
-fixed all mesh errors
-took out unneeded polygons in several areas to reduce count somewhat
-added torp launcher/tractor beam at the base of the undercut
-unified the deflector dish with the rest of the mesh

Polycount 21,160

The modeling phase of this project is pretty well finished.  I've got some additional optimization of the mesh I want to do.  I'm not going to start plucking at hairs, but I would like to have a polycount certainly below 20k.

As for textures, I don't know if I'll start right away.  It will be a complex job so I expect it to be a fairly drawn out (no pun intended) process.  If anyone knows where I can get a color palette, that would be helpful.

This was a fun ship to model, and it's kinda got me wanting to do more canon ships.   :D  Any suggestions for canon ships that need an overhaul?

First of all, this is gorgeous :D.  Second, how about a new Intrepid Class?  Doug Drexler just posted a bunch of high quality shots of the Voyager you could use.  She's also been called the Sovereign's little sister so it would kinda make sense lol.

Awesome job DJ!  I can't wait to see the textures on it.  As gat as cannon ships go... One of my favorites is the Nebula class.   However, it has been a long time since someone has taken a stab at the Romulan warbird.
