I did try doing that but couldn't get it looking right

I hear ya!

It's a bit tough to do just right... takes some subtle tweaks here and there.  Don't get me wrong, your shots are awesome.  I was just suggesting another alternative way.

I'll keep at the PS way, maybe turning down the opacity even more so they are more subtle, for the time being

Sounds like a good idea.  You may also want to try creating your own custom brushes with softer edges... that will give the stars a more 3dish, realistic effect.

I've also been looking at screenshots from various episodes and movies on Trekcore to get ideas. Another attempt:

True.  A NASA starfield would obviously be great but... there are some pretty nice BC starfields that can be downloaded... and you wouldn't have to do any possible touch up on them as you might with a NASA pic.

Wouldn't it truly be something if we could go up there as easy as getting on an airplane and take a pic ourselves!  Hopefully, that day will come... for our kids maybe  :)

Something I may start playing with when I get my Adobe stuff back on the PC.

How about a weather balloon?

I bet with just a little technical no-how, you could install a Raspberry Pi and some way to control which way the camera is pointed.

What size textures are you using, Tally?   Just curious as want to experiment with higher rez's for planets in SPMod to see how far can go before fps/ game grinds to a halt  :D.  At moment highest are 2048, but I've been able to run 4096.   Also, if anyone has any cool new high-res planet textures, please PM me.   Currently using sov001's HQ set (I think that was the last new one released, other than Killa/Moeds nebula pack).

depending on what else I am trying to accomplish I use either 4096 or 2048, I have 16gig of ram so don't get any lag really, though if I start to use a lot of high poly/hi texture ship it can.
Incidently I replied to the same question asking me of how I do my pic, backgrounds etc over on BCF and I had my reply pulled....why?

Thanks   So guess it's not really worth using anything above 4096?

It is indeed

Not sure if this qualifies for this thread as I have been trying out different things in photoshop. Any tips and comments are greatly welcomed

I'm not sure but I think that we had a separate thread for 'shopped BC pics. Not the Sci-Fi renders one.

Nice work 007! Still think you need a bit of shadowing to add relief but nicely done
