Then it sounds like either a bridge mod (an old-type one) or a faulty install of an "aggresive" (meaning through overwriting of original files) uniform mod.

Do you have the following file:
scripts/Bridge/GalaxyBridge.py do note the actual extension, py, not pyc.
If you have an py file, then could you attach it (if it's just the pyc file, then you don't have to)?
I still can't read peoples minds, nor can I read peoples computers, even worse, I can't combine the two to read what is going wrong with your BC install...

IIRC, that's when the game saves for the first time. Hence the "pickliing" error.

You know, they DO have on snazzy uniforms with quilted shoulders. Gray top, black bottom.

Edit: I'll check for the file when I get home. It'll be up in an hour and a half.

Edit 2: Oh and the wood grain on the stations behind the captain's chair looks nice and dark and rich. It looked sad and pale before.

Really? Before anything has even happend (like, user control)?

I've just looked through the code, and no savegame is made. Sure, it doesn't say everything of course.

And yes, pickle is used for saving.

Can you give us a small list of the mods you remember installing?

That's the thing. I listened to you guys (Kirk, really) very carefully and installed no mods but the BCsuperV thingy. The thread is an exact accounting of everything I've done.

I knew I was setting myself up to get yelled at if I didn't follow the readme exactly. ;)

Luckily for you, I'm not yelling. Hate yelling.

Did you uninstall, and then directly proceeded to install a new one to exactly the same directory?

Then I'm afraid you will have to uninstall again, go to the directory where you installed BC, and delete every remaining file and directory. And then try again.

Also, I wouldn't yell either. As for saving there, yes I'm sure the game saves there. When you die or fail a mission, you are given the options to quit or restart from the last save. That save is there for a restart point.

I did indeed! Were there hidden files or something? I was pretty certain I wiped that folder clean. Shall I delete the whole folder?

I can't delete the Activision folder cos my Elite Force is chillin' up in there too.

Do I need to reinstall the Foundation plugin?

There's no GalaxyBridge.py... I'll reinstall now and report back. :)

I reinstalled and started up again with no mutators on (not by design, I forgot) and it's still not saving, even when it said "SAVING" right across Cap'n Picard's face.

Gonna try again with them on. It's still the same spiffy bridge. :)

With all modifiers on, it still crashes to the desktop with no DOS box.

I tried it with all but the Foundation Technologies and it crashes to desktop. Tried it again with Foundation and the ship tool unchecked and got this. Look familiar?

I do believe I'm officially back where I started. This is a bummer.

Edit: Did I screw myself by installing Foundation, even though the readme told me to? After re-reading kirk's thread, I noticed another mention of the supermod having its own version of Foundation.

Well, if you had installed a version of foundation that didn't agree with supermod (like NFXv2b's) then you simply would have had a BSOD at startup. As for this pickling error try looking in my "Instability in Single Player" thread. It ought to contain a fix MLeo through together that simply bypasses the pickle function.

So basically, you never got it working right either?
It was a custom SP install that I had added NFXv2 and BP Core Gold to, not Super3.
Is it safe to say "this mod sucks" yet?
It's never safe to say that, CR will [not appreciate] you for saying that.
not being able to save in single player means that it's not much of a single player mod.
CR designed the darn thing to work with SP, I think it work properly and IIRC it did for me when I used it. (New computer, have yet to reinstall it)

Sorry all. I shouldn't have said that.

I was tired and having a bad night. I'm just frustrated, after following the instructions and doing multiple reinstalls, that it still isn't working.

(I also updated my video card, which broke my TV-Out, so I had to do a system restore, which broke my .Net 3.5 installation, which now won't reinstall, so I can't play certain games online anymore....so yeah, it was a bad night.)

Are there any other suggestions? Maybe a different version of Foundation?

Supermod has it's own Foundation version. So don't install any files there.

Also be sure to check both the Program Files, the Program Files (x86) and the Program files somewhere in your use profile.

I'm afraid I can't provide you with clear instructions, since I don't have a computer with Vista yet.

My best advise at this point is to do the following (for Supermod):
Install to C:\Games\Bridge Commander Supermod\ install the patch, install BCSuperModV3 and that's it.

He has Vista? Well, that means you can't remove everything cause you can't see anything. Any new files are saved to the virtualstore folder on your harddrive. Its hidden so go to your BC directory and you should see "Compatibility Files" with like a zip file type icon next to it close to the top, click it and delete the BC folder. While still in virtualstore move everything for BC and anything else to the normal directory(and delete folders as necessary).
All hail the messiah!

I'm running XP anyway. :)

The above is exactly what I've been doing, except I was installing Foundation, because the readme with the Supermnod says to. I guess it's wrong.

I'll try it again tonight.

Thanks!

It's possible I'm mixing up threads now.
I still can't read peoples minds, nor can I read peoples computers, even worse, I can't combine the two to read what is going wrong with your BC install...

Then it means clean BC install, then v1.1 patch, then Foundation, then SuperMod, and keep it at that.
