A texturing question for Wiley, if I may?  Wiley, is it possible to work the textures so the aztec patterns aren't overtly visible, but make them really come out in the specular maps, ie. DJ's Galaxies?  I think that would be really cool, though I have no idea how easy or hard that kind of thing is to pull off.

Also, I do apologize if this seems like badgering or anything of the sort Jimmy, I'm just curious as to whether it can be achieved or not.

Shadow, if you want high contrast speculars, then you simply need a high contrast specular map.  What I do is set the default specularity (in other words, the main background color) to an RGB value of 125.  Then the areas I want to appear less reflective I value at something around 50, and highly reflective areas around 200.  The Raptor class had a slightly more uniform specular map, and I think it turned out better.  (in other words, the numbers on both ends were closer to 127.)

*blinks* Sorry DJ, that went over my head.  I don't have anything that can do pretty stuff like that, when I try to edit BC textures all I get is the alpha textures.  Stupid GIMP. *grumbles*  It might be helpful to Wiley though.

I'm about done with the textures.  I'm thinking about doing the speculars similar to DJ's Galaxy class.

The JJConnie will be reusing some of the same paneling used by the Kelvin.  I also had to rebuild the engineering hull, because of the weird cargo/torpedo area.

I was thinking the cutout didn't look quite right in the last render.

Great work on the new model, I'm still enjoying the Mk1 whenever I get a chance. You've made me love this ship (aside from the above angle, the nacelles still look too close together...).

I love the fact that the spotlights are modeled onto the hull! Come to think of it, what's the polycount now? Has it changed?

Klingon Academy now works on XP/Vista/Win 7 thanks to one dude's patches, click here for details. I highly recommend it!

The polycount is now 32.6k polys.  Of all the reference available (DON'T POST ANY) the nacelles are closer than normal than the usual TOS Connie.  Then again, this is a different universe.

The polycount is now 33k.  The speculars are very similar to DJ's Galaxy class.  The first renders might look a little dark, so I also rendered some pics that show the ship without speculars.  This ship does not have ID map swapping.  I might be missing some minuscule detailing, but so far, it is pretty much finished.  Enjoy. :D

Sweet Jesus! Can I say that again? I like big time!

Hehe, no reference pics. At least I have a better idea of what the glowey thing behind the delfector but in front of the neck is.

Now I know you don't neeed more reference pics. But I'm sure the ends of the nacelles were different... :?

I also added some design aspects from Tobias Richter's model.  They are good for me.

Two things that bug me. One, if I openup this ship in the MPE the main hull color will be white and not a grey or blue correct? Two, the impulse engines still off(http://forums.filefront.com/album.php?albumid=37&pictureid=238)(http://forums.filefront.com/album.php?albumid=37&pictureid=239). The width and even the height arn't quite there yet and the shape(of the engines themselves not the housing) is actually squared off on both ends and not contoured.

Just trying to make this better for ya.
All hail the messiah!

......DON"T POST REFERENCE PICS.

Come on. Wiley knows what he is doing. This thread has already been closed for posting reference when Wiley doesn't need it.
