not to mention those running "antique" rigs (like me) cant handle all that detail....
It's mainly texture detail that lags gameplay. It's always good to include 2048-res, 1042-res, and an optional 512-res textures for ships. My personal goal is to keep all of my ships below the maximum of 30k polys. It takes practice to get it to a much lower amount.

I think higher poly ships also lag older systems when taking damage, I had to turn visible damage off with your kelvin ships, which are awesome btw, because the game lagged so much under fire. (I'm only guessing the poly count is the problem as the models file size is much larger than anything else on my install)

As for your new jjprise...

I know this a bit off topic slightly ( im still a bit of a newbi ) but does anyone know if it would be possible to see the front half of the saucer section from the bridge viewscreen. Oh, and a viewscreen window texture on the bridge would be awsum. Shes gona be awsum wiley. :D

It's possible. With some ship's hardpoints, there are forward, back, left and right views, I could just place the forward view just outside the bridge. Not all ships have these systems though.

I've removed about 1k of unneeded polys, so now the count is down to 28.9k polys. I'm now giving the mesh to Limey for cleanup.

Looking at that back view, you might want to change the shape of the impulse vents. I'm pretty sure they continue the round curve at the side rather than squaring off at the tip. Those new bits in the inside of the nacelles extends further towards the back too.
(Those qmx model images I posted show what I mean if that wasn't clear)

Other than that, that rear shot is pure win. :)

Actually, no they don't continue to the rim, that's one of the very very few things wrong with the QMx model.  Wiley did the impulse engine just right.  Though you are right about the warp vents not extending back quite far enough, that's a small thing.

*Looks at un-docking clip on youtube*

Ah so it is! Make that pure win+1 then

I am just curious about one thing: Will the intercoolers move when the ship goes to warp like in the move. But all in all I like how the model looks awesome  :dance

That is not possible to do in BC. I'm pretty sure...

It could be done with an animated texture. Instead of actually making them move, just have the seems between each piece start to glow, giving the illusion of it opening.

^That's the best I can come up with.

The engine warm up script (think thats what its called) could be used to swap the texture on the fins and dish during warp. Or have a MVAM warp mode maybe.

FTech :D

Precisely.  That's how Wiley did the bussard color swap in the first version and how the CGI Voyager ship's engines moved.

Ftech is a good idea for many things, but the more I add to my ships, the more likely people will have problems using my ship. The one thing I really want to learn correctly is how to do animated bussards.

Whatever you decide to do will be cool Wiley, though I hope you can get the animated bussards working. :D

I believe I have a Connie with animated Bussards. (checks) yup.  there's a link in Anduril's constitution readme to a setup Dreamyards did for it.
