here's how the bottom of the saucer is shaping up.

and yeah, lots of phasers... but it's built to fight so that makes sense.

The ventral registry seems somewhat skewed... and a bit difficult to read.

Knowing that the Athena is 17 decks tall, I scaled it to the Galaxy class. It makes the ship just a bit taller than the Galaxy's saucer. The final dimensions are:

1.   Length: 525.6 m
2.   Width: 226.7 m
3.   Height: 77.2 m
4.   Decks: 17

In reality, the ship is not much bigger than an intrepid class. It simply appears a lot bigger by the numbers because of the longer, backward extended nacelles. The body is pretty comparable to the intrepid. If the nacelles ended at the same place as on Voyager for example, the Athena would only be about 30 or 40 meters longer.

Makes me curious to think what this ship might look with a considerable "fattar" nacelle variant, which is also shorter. Might be an idea for a future refit or variant?

The underside saucer is looking spot on mate, Loving that scale I imagined it to be bigger, but looking at the dual shots with the galaxy, it looks awsome.

Which reminds me, wouldn't you need RCS thrusters on the engineering section as well? I can't see any on your model ATM...

I do believe they are somewhat of a requirement unless you want the secondary hull to have the maneuverability of a brick.

This looks amazing, DJ. Boy, it sure has a LOT of phaser strips!!

Personally, I think the ship should be larger than 17 decks, but that's a minor nitpick. Plus, at this stage, it's a moot point.

Looking at that side view of the ship, you really did a bang-up job on the saucer separation design. From the side, you can't tell at all that the ship separates!

Very nice work. This is probably my favorite ship that you've designed.

I've done up the glows and specular maps. Here's a look at the wash from the deflector and impulse engines.
