Arsenal Class Warship
« on: April 07, 2009, 04:19:18 AM »
i decided to dig up my copy of max and knock the rust off my modeling skills, i been doing sketches of this for a bit and now i finally have the time to model it.

obviously its a kitbashed sovvy, but i dont plan on it looking anything like one when im through.
im gonna try to scale it to just a little bit smaller than a century class.

im open to suggestions!

Not a bad concept, though I'd probably suggest the ventral nacelles sit a little forward of the dorsal ones, just to give it a more fluid look (Right now it throws off the rest of the ships design), perhaps slightly smaller too. Aside from that, would you be able to post your sketches? Would help alot more with suggestions. I can see several parts that aren't properly welded. As I said, the sketches would probably help out with feedback. ;)

whenever i get my hands on a scanner ill post them, all i have right now is a low quality digital camera and the pictures of my sketches it takes dont turn out too pretty. im prolly gonna do a schematic on paint or something so i have a better reference in max.

Nice, though i'd add a little variation on the saucer, maybe cut a shape into it and reposition the yacht area to give it distinction.

He did say he wasn't planning on it being much (if anything) like the sovvie when it's completed. ;)

well i decided to do away with the "yacht" under the saucer. i might use the excess space for a quantum cannon, but as of now shes got 12 forward torp tubes, and im planning on placing 8 or 10 on the aft, im thinkin 6 on the spine and 4 under.
as for the saucer, im thinking of placing a few light phaser strips around more toward the outer edge, both dorsal and ventral.
i took your advice and moved the ventral nacelles forward, and it looks alot better, dont know what much to do with the deflector array, i know i want to keep it a circular shape.

heres the new updates:

Which is a no no on ST ships.

im pondering a diffrent style of nacelles.  i had originally planned on ones that resemble the century class nacelles

Interesting start; there's quite a few smoothing issues to sort out though and what appears to be some verts that're screaming to be welded [particularly around the deflector housing]... interesting start though. Let's see where this goes...

Not to be the forum meanie, but it looks like a sovvie with four necelles and some "bits" put on it...     not to put a dampaner on things mate, but I think you should go with your design from your sketches 100% bin the kitbashes, no matter what the simularity... go from the beginning  8)

Good luck  :)

well, give it some time. like i said, im tryn to knock some dust off the skills, but that dont mean that im gonna just release something half assed and call it new, but that dont mean itll be perfect the first time around. i promise, that by the time im done, you wont even recognize the fact that i started out on a totally diffrent model...... well except the impulse engines.... i planned on keeping those..., im aiming high on this one, and i aims to please ;)
this isnt the only ship i plan to do... i have quite a few in the sketches. everyone starts somewhere. :)

Ah, see, now, in the beginning I was with the guys who thought this looked like a Sovereign with some bits attached, but now it's really starting to look like a separate design (same family, but not just a Sovereign with attachments an more). Looking very nice =D
