Falcon registry work...
« on: May 15, 2009, 09:39:58 AM »
Here is my current registry work. Its pretty rough...Im still getting the hang of working with vectors and text, it comes up with some positioning errors on the letters that I have to correct, but overall I think it is an improvement.

I am reworking a few spots on this mesh, and finishing up the textures. It wont be a great texture job, but it will get me ready to texture the Ares, so I figured this one needed to be finished first.

Let me know how you think the current registry looks. I am using Federation Wide.

I think it looks good so far. Its just that i dont really like the position on the wings. Perhaps making them a straight line and place them higher, later with some nice glows to lighten them that might look good. Just a thought, though  :D

Different font probably won't hurt either.

Can you show me what you mean as far as position? And I am open to font suggestions...I was told this is the proper registry font.

Most TNG onwards font is the Federation Starfleet font. At least thats the one I've got. But I personally like the font you're using right now. Seems suitable for a ship of the SFMC (Starfleet Marine Corps. It is an SFMC or is it something else which I've forgotten?).
"To live on as we have is to leave behind joy, and love, and companionship, because we know it to be transitory, of the moment. We know it will turn to ash. Hey phaser :)

Yep, this is an SFMC ship. I tried to find a combo that could still roll off the tongue like USS. After speaking out a few combos SMS seemed to work.

I personally like the ship designation used as a prefix instead of the standard NCC...this denotes this as a definite warship, much like current-day designations.

Remind me again what SMS stands for.  Maybe....

Starfleet Marine Squadron?
Starfleet Marine Ship?
Strawberry Milk Shake?

Here you go. This is what I came up with.

SMS: Starfleet Marine corps Starship

All Marine Corps vessels are marked with class, then designation in catalog

Example: CDN-23 SMS Infinity   Combat fleet Dreadnought

Mainline Vessels

CDN: Dreadnought
CBB: Battleship
CCX: Battlecruiser
CCA: Cruiser
CDD: Destroyer
CFF: Frigate

Fleet Vessels

CL: Patrol Ship
CY: Heavy shuttle/Drop Ship
CG: Fighter/Shuttle

Special Designations

YDDS: Space Dock Type A
YDDL: Space DOck Type 2

YVA: Starbase
YLV: Battlestation

F/A: Fighter/Attack craft
A/T: Assault/Transport craft

MAU: Mechanized Assault Unit

That's one tiny federation starship. I hope it has some muscle behind it's teeth.

That's what I'm talking about size appears to be spot on 8)

On another note: It seems every time I find a reference to this ship it always seems to disappear. Hopefully this will stick.

So have you decided to nix the saucer sep idea :?:

Hope you don't mind but here are a few shots I had squirreled away and a brief synopsis which you supplied for those that aren't familiar with this ship:

"...this ship is small, bigger than the defiant but still on the small side. It would be the Federation equivilant of a BOP. Its armament is limited...one torp launcher fore and aft, though they are quantum launchers, 4 medium range phase disruptors in the nose, 4 heavy phase disruptors in the nacelle struts, all quick load like the Defiant....and that is pretty much it besides the single phase emitters scattered about the hull for point defense. This ship is not intended to go nose to nose with a capital ship.

Where this ship shines is its speed at impulse/warp and it's menuverability. All three are rediculous...this ship is actually faster than the Defiant at impulse, equal at warp but can maintain high warp for long periods of time. It is also slightly more menuverable at impulse, due in large part to the monsterous RCS thrusters and quad impulse engines. From head to toe this ship was designed for one thing....speed.

Armor suffers as a result, not quite up to par with the Defiant. There is not as much ablative armor on this vessel, and shielding is about equal to the Defiant, though this ship is larger. This ship does have a sensor cloak equipped however, allowing it to escape lock-on from all but the shortest distances while operating at full capacity.

Firing torpedoes at this ship would be almost useless....if you could get a lock, the ship would probably outrun the torpedo, shake off the lock, or just destroy it when it is close to the ship. Phasers are much more effective against this vessel...".

I like this ship, this ship could be used in more fields than just assaults and what not. I was thinking that the ship could also fill the roles of:

Light Scout
Medical Ship
Boarder Patrol and defense
Transport

So when you're done you should add a few of those classes along the line of it. Variations of a ship is a good thing, most people don't implement a lot of them, but if you look at the Federation they take one ship and have multiple variants of it.

Yes, this vessel was intended as the workhorse of the 3rd fleet, but a specific one...any job that requires a quick ship instead of a powerful one. This ship is no slouch, but compared to other vessels in the fleet it is light on weaponry, favoring tactics and speed. I could see it filling deep space patrol and escort duties.

Much like its spirit brethren the Klingon BOP.

Definitely can picture a few of them around a bigger vessel. Mate, your works bring a unique approach to Fed designs I've never seen before, while retaining a strong feel of the latest fed design (I can definitely see the likeness in Sovereign design from the top), and you continue to amaze me. I agree.
Raven I have always liked your Post-TNG ships. What's the word on downloading them? I would love to add them to my fleet, once I get to that timeframe.

The Falcon? No it's not. I mean, in relation to humans, sure, but in relation to a Galaxy class or a Sovereign, nope.
