Arsenal Class Bridge - Prometheus Bridge Retex
« on: September 12, 2009, 06:42:26 PM »
I love the Arsenal, personally i think its the best ship ive designed and made, and i feel she deserves to have a bridge of her own, so im re-texturing the Prometheus bridge for the new Arsenal class.

so for starters, heres the (semi) FINISHED MSD for the Arsenal.
(dont know what the heck else ima do with it, but you never know)
if ANYONE wants to give me a hand with this project, i welcome the help, theres alot of work to be done here, since i plan on re-doing all the consoles at least and probably the whole thing in general, maybe not ALL of it, but the biggest majority of it to make it its own :)

this is a new venture for me, so i will prolly be askin for help, and as with my ships, i ALWAYS appreciate the input and help

qustions, comments, cookies, "hell is wrong with you"s, all welcome :)

ok.... dumb question, since im mainly re-doing the displays i have 2 main questions.

1, do i have to do anything with the lightmapping at all?

2, what do i have to do to drop the animated displays?
i may or may not decide to do them, if i do more than likely theyll be the displays from the nemesis bridge plastered there.
(not to mention tracking down 3rd era(?) for the permissions to do so)

The answer is no, unless you want to brighten or darken the bridge.

2, what do i have to do to drop the animated displays?

If you dont want to use the animated displays, you can make it so each frame uses the same texture. ie Lcars_1.tga Lcars_2.tga Lcars_3.tga ect would be a simple copy and paste of Lcars_1.tga to each of the others in the sequence.

(not to mention tracking down 3rd era(?) for the permissions to do so)
Permission to retexture is fine so long as the original bridge readme is uploaded with the file.

Hope that makes sense. been a long day

Cheers.

BTW the MSD looks great. :)

thanks for the help and input sean, that clears everything up. :cookie:
and ill be sure to adhere to the guidelines   :whenitsdone

heres some screenies to update the work thus far... enjoy!

(i felt that the helm console looked good as it is, and simply needed a re colour)

not ALL the displays have been re made yet, its slow going as im running out of ideas other than recoloring some that are already there... not what i want to do with the whole thing, the ones that i feel fit with the ship will stay, the rest will go, but as for what im replacing them with im at a loss of ideas.

anyone got any ideas?

A couple weeks or so ago I spent some time fiddling with the Prometheus... the main thing I discovered is what a few relatively simple changes can do to the look of the bridge. The main idea I was kicking around was to give bridge stations a little more substance than the usual black Plexiglas with LCARS on it. . . and since its easier to show than explain:

http://www.28th-infantry-division.us/store/ScreenShot057.jpg
http://www.28th-infantry-division.us/store/ScreenShot058.jpg
http://www.28th-infantry-division.us/store/ScreenShot059.jpg

To me it just feels more durable.

Obviously I didn't get very far with this... but it might give you some ideas on the sort of things you can change to give your bridge a little more individuality. (including, perhaps, adding additional LCARS displays to other parts of the bridge)

that actually looks pretty nifty.

that gives me a few kickers for the remaining panels that have to be redone.

i got a question tho, does anyone know what needs to be changed to have this install as a separate bridge instead of overwriting the prommie bridge?

if its easier that way ill be more than happy to send it and whoever volunteers can make the changes

copy and paste the bridge nif and viewscreen along with textures into a new folder under data/models/sets/*Newbridge*

Then copy the scripts and auto load files for the bridge, rename them to *newbridge*

Then edit the scripts to point to your *newbridge*.nifs

alright, ill give that a shot when everythings done, right now i backed up the prommies textures and put the arsenals in its place for now for testing

do i have to rename the animations as well?

i.e. the only thing im gonna change in the file structure is change "prometheus" to "arsenal"

that would mean that i would have to do that as well in the scripts?
(wanna make sure i get this right)

Cool MSD tho one thing bothers me ... it's ther warp core... in Ent-E it's 4-6 decks in height (I cant's remember but it should be enough for comparision) same is on Galaxy and other big vessels and Arsenal has about 10 decks warp core whick would be pretty unhandy (dunno if this word is proper gramaticaly  :D ) when ejecting as minor bump would cause collision with hull and detonation so maybe you should invent multiple/dual core system for it ;)

As for texturing I can clearly see some sharp edges on LCARS bars around ships display, you might want to smooth them and streight them out a little... other than that I think it's a military ship then you could retextue it with more navy grey/blue colors and slight lighting edit would help a lot (this bridge always needed more depth to it, darkening it would help a lot ;)

noted, i REEEEALLY didnt want to ...... well actually to drop the lighting.. wouldnt i just need to drop the brightness on the lightmaps? sounds cheap but wouldnt it work?

as for the core.... yea i always thought it looked a bit cheesey being that big, but its still in works, and changes can be made.

i always thought that the colour scheme from the sovvy looked good, the blues, and oranges, so i thought it would fit with the ship in general. there are some spots where im runnin dry on ideas as to what displays to put in, im no good at making from scratch, kinda y i was askin for a bit of help on this one.

I DID MY BEST DAMMIT!!! I DID MY BEST!!!!!....... sorry..... dane cook in youtube :D

looking good!

btw - in the future, please upload the images instead of hotlinking them (even if you need to double-post); they are a little bit on the large side...
or please hotlink images that are a bit smaller in size...
thx :)

Why not download the ship and make them yourself?
