And no, it's not the Aurora Borealis.

AKA Northern Lights

Aurora tend to dance and undulate through the sky. These remained stock-still, and faded from view, only to re-appear in the same positions in the sky 3 hours later.

Jimmy, when you say storm, you mean, like, biblical, right? I hope it slides away south too, for your sake!

As for snow, all of Europe has been under kilotonnes of the stuff for the last month or so. It's getting old, tbh!

I'm thinking it's some weather condition that's reflecting the light from the ground up...

Northern Lights was just a random thought before looking at the pics closer lol

well the news just gets better and better!!!   :bitch:

Issued by The National Weather Service
Providence, RI
4:51 pm EST, Sat., Dec. 25, 2010

... BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON SUNDAY TO 6 PM EST MONDAY...

The National Weather Service in Providence has issued a Blizzard Warning which is in effect from noon Sunday to 6 PM EST Monday.  The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.

* Locations - all of Rhode Island except Block Island and all of eastern Massachusetts except Cape Cod and the Islands.

* Hazard Types - Heavy snow and potentially damaging winds with considerable blowing and drifting of snow and near zero visibilities.  Scattered thunderstorms with snow.

* Accumulations - 15 to 20 inches of snow.

* Timing - Light snow will start in the early afternoon and become heavy by evening.  Very heavy snow will fall throughout Sunday night with up to 2 to 4 inches per hour likely at times.  The snow will taper to flurries by Monday afternoon.  Winds will peak from late Sunday afternoon through much of Monday.

* Impacts - Extremely dangerous travel conditions will develop by Sunday evening.  Strong winds will combine with the snow to create blinding conditions with near zero visibility at times Sunday night.  Widespread power outages are expected during the height of the storm Sunday night from both the strong winds knocking down power lines and the weight of the heavy snow.  Shoveling should not be done by anyone with heart conditions.

* Winds - Northeast to North winds will increase to 25 to 35 MPH with gusts as high as 50 to 60 MPH especially along coastal Rhode Island and coastal Massachusetts from late Sunday afternoon through much of Monday.

* Temperatures - Range from mid 20s to lower 30s.

* Visibilities - One quarter mile or less at times.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Blizzard Warning is issued when sustained winds or frequent gusts over 35 MPH are expected with considerable falling and / or blowing snow.  Visibilities will become poor with whiteout conditions at times.  Those venturing outdoors may become lost or disoriented, so persons in the Warning area are advised to stay indoors.

More Information

... DANGEROUS WINTER STORM HEADED FOR SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY...

Low pressure over the southeastern United States will be intensifying off the North Carolina coast Sunday morning.  The storm will strengthen further into a major storm as it moves southeast of Nantucket and Cape Cod Monday morning.  Blizzard conditions will occur in eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.  The storm will pull away from the region Monday afternoon and night but strong winds will continue, especially along the coast.

looking outside where i am this morning, there is very light snow with a light coating on the streets already...
how i do wish i had a functioning camera where i could take pics of how things will look later on today...

a couple friends of mine are gonna be stopping by, in a few hours around noon, and camping out here at my pad until tomorrow afternoon...  i think it would be fun to have some beers for lunch and then when the weather starts getting really wild during the afternoon, we'll all walk downtown (it's only about a 10 or 15 minute walk downtown from here) and have a few more beers before stumbling back to my apt...  hope to not lose power...
ive already decided i wont be going to work tomorrow lol screw that...

it's a pretty intense storm - everywhere along the coast from Atlantic City, New York City, Boston, etc are expecting about a foot of snow, and here in Providence about a foot and a half of snow...  earlier, for here, they were saying 15 to 20 inches, but now theyre thinking more like 12 to 16 inches but that still is a pain in the ass lol

And they're invading Oslo? Is this another Ferengi invasion plan drawn up by Nog?

(Come to think of it! The Norwegian.com plane that flew me over here was named Nog!)

December 27, 1999 - an intense storm brought damaging winds to Western Europe; gusts up to 125 mph uprooted 10,000 trees around the Palace of Versailles near Paris, France...

Unless, like all other women on the internet, Mother Nature is actually a 40 year old guy from Texas. In which case, not so kinky.
