Sketchup can only import 3ds and ACAD files. to get ships from BC, you need Nifskope(export as .obj) Model program(I use MeshLab, convert to .3ds) Shetchup, import 3ds.

Export: Export model as Google Earth 4 model. Find file, rename .kmz to .zip, extract the .dae file from the models sub directory, convert to 3ds via model program(MeshLab)

noticed the name voter up there.  for pete's sake, don't put Enterprise H on that thing, you'll never hear the end of it from prequal haters :P

Markyd: if there was some way of designing nacelles that don't look sovvy, yet say 2400, I'd like to see it.  from what little bit I've seen of STO, the only really fresh design happens to be that little sphere headed ship (which I'm still dying to see someone convert).

Here are a few:

Rengers :- Archeron IMg provided
Megellan by Steve Davis IMg provided

Infact now im thinking about it there are plenty of ships with unique nacelle configurations.

Anyway.. nice progress.

If once you have finished and it is converted to 3DS I can help you get the model ready for the game if you like.

Drop me a PM if you do.

As I recommended try getting Gmax if you can it will export far smoother that Sketchup.

Don't get dis-heartened I spent nearly a month on my first ship only to throw it away and start again.

Yeah, but sketchup is far easier to use and has tutorials made by people who don't suffer from ADHD..

I agree with Lionus, I will try Gmax, but I know sketchup inside and out. I basically have to jump through hoops to get a model into 3ds format. :P

Alright I have made some progress, I sucsessfully converted the old model to .nif using the plugins for gmax. It displays in both Nifskope and in Model Proprty Editor, but not in game. Anyone here know why, or is it still a mesh issue. :idk: :idk: :help: :help:

USS Atlantis (NCC-05-A)
Calvin grows up to be Frazz. The logical continuation of this is, of course, that Frazz then grows up to be Edward Norton's character from Fight Club. And thus, all four of these characters are gods.Let's go one more step. Calvin grows up to be Jeremy, who grows up to be Frazz, who grows up to be "Tyler Durden," while Suzie grows up to be Haruhi Suzumiya; since Kyon becomes The Doctor, this leads to the inescapable conclusion that after the end of Fight Club, Calvin becomes Captain Jack.

Heres an update, just rebuilt the model, no bridge yet, that is coming. This model is much better in that it is all one mesh instead of individual parts:

Also, I like the name atlantis, but IF I do end up using that name, I will probably use a registry like this: NCC-05-C, seeing as this 25th century.

Heres a quick update, using the Paint-Can feature in Sketchup, I have been working on a base hull texture, so I have painted it on the hull and recolored it in various places. I may not be able to map textures in Gmax, but that doesn't mean I can't make them in photoshop.
