Thanks for all the suggestions guys.  I'll take them under advisement.

I've shaved off a few hundred polys.  Down to 20,716.  Still wanna get under 20k.

*edit: now 20,260.

What's the highest Poly ship you've made and released so far?  I mean as a comparison to the Sovereign.

I say your just fine.

Without looking at the wireframe, I'm surprised you got it that low with all that great detail.

My vote for what is on the list, though all sound great, The Neg'Var is one that really deserves it as far as a update. not many out there to choose from, and all are outdated.

Also, though not cannon, would be your Supremus. Like the styling of that ship. Think it would be a good one to revisit. :)

The Century Class is actually the re-visitation of the Supremus.  In fact, when I started it out, the Enterprise D was actually called Supremus.

As for the poly count, I'm done reducing it.  I'm happy with where it's at.  I'll look into what my highest poly ship is.

I don't know if this has laready been asked, but are you going to release a Sovereign (First Contact and Insurrection) as well as a Sovereign Refit (Nemesis)?
I see that your current version of the model is a Sovereign Refit, but I don't think that there is a high quality Un-Refitted Sovereign out there, since CG's model is also a refit version.

Of course it would be a big job, the two versions have a slightly different model and different textures.

or the deflector are for that matter...

I am making an Insurrection version and it is looking very good. I'll post pics in my thread when I have something good for posting. Plus, it will be less for DJ to build. :D

Actually this ship is going to be a hybrid of both Sovereigns.  Her physical design is clearly based on the Nemesis Sovereign, but textures should make her look more like the First Contact/Insurrection Sovereign.

This ship is going to take a lot of tenacity to texture.  Very tedious.  Every little panel is drawn by hand over top of the cgi renders.  I haven't entirely settled on a color scheme.  Though what I did was map the cgi texture onto my ship just to see how the Nemesis paint scheme would look.  Happily, the cgi texture was a perfect fit, but the colors are just so damn gloomy.  I think i will go with a lighter scheme for my ship.

I'm happy with it so far.  Had to break out my wired mouse, though.  The other one is just to heavy for this fine work.

One thing I won't be doing much of is fake bump mapping.  First of all, I don't see much need for it on this ship.  Second, I want the ability to create an actual bump or normal map once the textures are complete that I can use for renders or newer games.

I still can't get over how smooth that ship is for literally just under 20k... I like that you've chosen for it to have a proper bump map for outside of BC, makes me wonder what it is you have in mind  :funny

Nothing in mind in particular, just want the option.  The last couple ships I did with bumps I kind of regret in a way because they're useless outside BC.  Oh well.  This one will be different.

Did a bit more texturing to the saucer, but now it's time for bed.  This is without a doubt the most intricate texturing I've ever had to do.

For the record, I think the whole ship will be done on three 2048x2048 textures.

That looks really good so far.  The Nemesis Aztec pattern looks good when brightened up a bit.

I have a minor nitpick about a small section the upper command structure- mainly around the aft torpedo bay. The shape of the "ceiling" is sloped differently. This picture I attached can explain it. It is from Insurrection, but the Nemesis version of the Enterprise has the same shape.

Looking excellent so far!

I don't know, I like the lighter color of FC but I also for different reasons like the darker of Nemesis.

Maybe something in between??

For the moment, the coloring isn't settled in my mind.  I'm making the textures in max so changing them up is no problem.

Wiley, I want to make sure I'm seeing what you're seeing... the top rim around that area is more chamfered than further up, yes?

Again, this texture job is murder.  :hithead:

For the moment, here's where I'm at.  I'd keep working on the rim areas, but my wife wants me to play STO with her.  So I guess I'm taking a break.  :P
