DJ, one thing to say: THANK YOU.  You've pretty much just saved me a year worth of work I think.   :funny

What was said earlier was right, real life hit in a huge nasty way last november: computer up and died.  Still had my laptop, and didn't lose any files (did a full external backup at the first sign of trouble), but it cut me down to my travel computer, which really isn't up to modeling/texturing.  I've got a new desktop now, but due to the situation below, I'm still getting things set up on it.

Now, for Real Life Part II: I moved across the country. :P Job stuff has me transferred temporarily to the east coast, so life has been a doozy.  I'm going back to California in July sometime.  Only a temp move, so got a furnished place, moved only the essentials, but still a massive undertaking.

And anyway, that thing looks GORGEOUS.  What you did was pretty much what I wanted to do when I started my CG Sov revisions last fall, rebuilding the model from the ground up with the hull details built in.  And I really need to adapt my texturing style to how you did it, it looks like it went EXTREMELY fast.  I like the details you picked out to model, it's a nice balance of detail, with a good polycount.

I'll probably nitpick a few things over time, but after seeing this, it makes me want to restart the CG Sov the same way.  Rebuilding everything from scratch has a nice effect of cleaning up the mess from years of tweaking the model.

DJ, I don't think you could ask for a better compliment than that one from the creator of the longest-lived Sovereign in BC.  You keep pushing out these top notch models, we'll keep drooling over them.

And good to see you around CG, good luck with the RL situation!

Ok, part two of the post, because every time I make long posts, the forum spazzes out and won't scroll correctly to let me see what I'm typing.

It was definitely mentioned before, the back edge of the first bridge tier is beveled further than the rest of that tier.  It starts just ahead of the docking rings, and continues around the back.

Second thing, and this might just be lighting, but you know that gap/crevice between the front edge of of the engineering hull and the inner edge of that level of the saucer?  That's always looked much deeper to me, as if the main hull doesnt flatten so much there, and makes a more pronounced valley.  You'd only be able to see this from pictures around the underside though, MAYBE from the deflector walk scene in First Contact.

Aside from that.. this kinda makes me want to just use this instead of finishing the CG v2 :D  Honestly, I just get too distracted by too many other things, and get too nitpicky.  I mean.. you built this in what, a week or two?  I'm really out of practice too, so that doesn't help any.

I dunno.  Much as I hate to give up finishing, seeing something of this quality makes it really tempting to do so.  Who knows.. maybe I just need the right motivation.

Haha awesome to see ya here CG :D

CG don't feel so discouraged, I'm sure you'll find motivation to finish yours at some point.
Also keep the hints coming for DJ ;)

Btw I just checked the long post issue again.... nothing wrong happens... though you have to be careful on what the window focus is.
Make sure you click the txt window with the mouse when you want to scroll (with the mouse) otherwise you'll scroll the whole page instead.

Well.. it's not that.. it's just that once I hit the bottom of the post window, the scroll bar completely goes berzerk.  If I hit enter a bunch of times to space things out, I'll hit the bottom of the window, and it won't let me type further down.  I'll try it here..

k, can still type here ok
still working
HERE->it dies on this line, the window will not let me scroll below this line while I'm typing.  Once I hit this particular line, anything I type immediately gets pushed below the bottom of the window.  I can drag it there manually and scroll just fine, but as soon as I hit a key, it pushes this line below the typing space.  It happens to whichever line I happen to type on.

if I hit enter again, it goes back up to above the previous line.  The Only time I can see what I'm typing is while a key is pressed, meaning the scroll bar snaps to the letter I've typed as I'm typing it, then immediately snaps back up to the line above.  Essentially, the window is jumping up and down every time I press and release a key, and it makes it completely impossible to read what I'm typing.

Also, past that point I cannot scroll the cursor down manually with the arrow keys.  They stop working correctly, and you get stuck at that line I indicated.

Oh, highlighting text below that line is out as well, I can't drag the cursor without it snapping up above that line.

Same thing happens when I try and edit the post.

It's not that it makes it impossible to post... but I have to post in snippets so I don't hit the limit.

You Might want to try Firefox.  Mine does the same thing CG

However you might want to try consulting the forum discussion LOL I Know Jimmy might get a bit upset if we even go the slightest off topic :P *ducks and runs from the wrath of Sam*

And DJ, Dude, high praise from CG doesn't get better than that!  LOL

Good point, sorry for the derailment there.

Back to drooling profusely.

The thing about this model I love is that it was built straight from the start as a high poly version, and kept a good amount of detail all the way.  The CG Sov is kind of a hacked job, because it started as a 6k polygon model for another game, and all that tweaking over time built up some nasty baggage.  I really DO need to rebuild it from scratch, but it might be a while before I get to it.

Personally though, my biggest problem is the mapping.  I can't wait to see how the textures fit on this thing.
