Doesn't Edit() work?
Code: [Select]
Edit()

 Makeing -TestMode

1. find your bridge commander icon , right click on it
2 go down to the Properties , left click on it
3 there should be a Field [where the exe line is] titled Target
4. go to the end of stbc.exe [ left click there]
5 type -TestMode {with a space in front, between the exe and the - }

and it Must be exact [TestMode , not, testmode ]

i thought Km had TestMode already built into it?

as far as using the Edit() code, you have to enter it into the console...  to bring down the console, hit the ~ key (next to the 1 key)...

KM allows to customize the console key, so it might be set to something else.

And yes, the TestMode option can be activated in Options (Unified Main Menu).

stick to the first editor options as playing with the other does guarantee to crash your game..lol.

What i usually do is before i go to edit mode I warp to whatever system i want to be first in game and go to add ships command(F3). then add what ships i want once I'm in a system.
After I've added ships I scan the area to show all ships on left menu then once there all there I order a fleet movement to stop....this stops them moving off after you have set position during edit mode.(Edit...beam across to each ship and power down engines through F5 console first)

Anyway back to edit....  start by select previous(usually clicks to the ship your in) and then click chase selected, that will snap you to view your ship....tip( use your ship as a reference point so dont move it just yet)

each click of choose previous cycles through each ship in system(dont click chase selected), what you want to do is( now assuming your still looking at the back of your own ship (and your ship is no longer highlighted in red) is click on "object to cam" on left of menu. This puts selected ship nearly on top of yours.

Now click "move object" on right side of editor menu....now on my layout so not sure if default in edit mode but arrow keys will move selected object forward,back,left and right.Home and page up will move object up/down, end and page down will roll left/righ respectively.....moving mouse will pitch/yaw/rotate object.

Now likewise if you click move object again you can now do same movement with camera instead.

If you click on "toggle placements" and click on select previous/next you will cycle all the ships and any other objects in the system...planets/asteroids/ and more importantly lighting direction/ambient light.From here you can click edit light,where you can change colour intensity...dont be afraid to experiment and if you click move object once more you can play with the lighting direction by right clicking on screen and moving mouse about.

It is a case of trial and error and playing around.  I am still learning and constantly fiddling about with it myself. Oh one more thing ,once you've been fiddling about with lighting though...make sure you click"toggle placements once more or when you go back to proper game you'll have huge arrows hanging in space...lol.Also another tip if you click "save" them settings will be set to that system perminently so will save you the hassle of setting up lighting again ...unless of course you want to.(Edit...learning to open and edit system py files in wordpad hard sets any changes...and worth taking the time to experiment in there also.)

Once your happy with how you have set up everything press ` once more and type Edit() again(or tap down arrow then enter) and that will take you back to game, from there I usually press F9 then F2 and zoom in/out as normal so i get position on my ship to how i had it through edit mode then press F5 to move my ship into a nice position...throw in some angles and rolls and hey presto hit your print screen.(Edit also if you press F2 in game not cinematic mode,and you can secondary select target/targets...when you break target lock you still fire on ships you targeted)

Edit...It is a case of trial and error and game still crashes occasionally at the most inopertune moment...usually when i press print screen...damn, but dont let it put you off using it. If I cant get the game to do something specific i try to think outside the box to get my desired result so suprise myself sometimes when it works like a charm

Hope this helps but most of all have fun
