DJ Curtis WIPs - New WIP Page 9 - 3 New Ships @ BCF
« on: February 21, 2012, 01:42:57 AM »
Seems the trend these days is to have one big thread for your work, so I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and put everything in this thread.

Item 1: A revamped Century Class.  I read in an interview linked from the STO main page that the lead ship artist for STO thought the Century was a cool design that he'd like to see in the game, and that kinda got me looking at the ship again, as I hadn't in quite some time.  So here's a list of the improvements and modifications:

-generally cleaned up mesh
-new bridge area
-new main impulse engine
-significant changes to the warp nacelles, including moving forward and lengthening, as well as the details
-widened the nacelle pylons
-widened the rear of the ship
-much larger aft shuttlebay
-new main deflector
-moved the main deflector further towards the back of the ship
-eliminated the "double barrel shotgun" in favor of a more understated launcher near the deflector
-brought in a uniform torpedo launcher style
-widened and reshaped the ship's spine
-added a phaser array to the spine
-modified nacelle/pylon connections to streamline and refine
-moved nacelle pylons forward
-bunch of other small stuff including modified smoothing groups, refining edges, etc.

Generally, I wanted the ship to appear more balanced and refined.  Probably the biggest change in this regard is the nacelles.  You can see in the comparison that they're a lot different.  I'll let the pix do the talking.  I'm planning to do new textures from scratch for this ship.  Overall, I'm really liking the changes, hope you guys do too!

I asked you about this one day, long ago, back when the Eclipse was in production.  Guess it finally happened.   :)  She's looking more beautiful than ever. ;)

was going to say the nacelles are the best change, but really I LOVE the new sensor array and the pylons look better now they are thicker - great job, will be watching this with great anticipation

Most impressive. And here I thought the BC "Enterprise-F" couldn't get any better. And then you go and prove me wrong :)

My only suggestion, would be to widen the aft end of the nacelles. Not as wide as the rest of the nacelles, but atleast 50% wider "nacelle tips" than they currently are.

I rather liked the original deflector, but the new one looks super cool as well.

no the real Ent F is hawling space garbage around in STO. This one that Dj's done isn't she's sleak clean and SEXY!! - we can't help the fact cryptic suck and chose a 5h1t design over something like this. i mean the real ent F just dont feel like it is honourable enough of holding the name ENTERPRISE but this - this not only looks the part feels the part i can imagine it too i love this design

(yer i know my so called use of sarcasum hasnt come across well)

I agree with Vortex, the rest of the ship is fine.. but I don't really like the deflector, looks like a giant Torpedo launcher.

This one came first. And ST:O ain't canon anyway, thank god. xD

Anywho, back to the topic;
Interesting idea having a phaser strip running down the spine.

Awesome changes.

I like the new deflector as much as the original, now it's just "different", but as nice.

Have to agree with Darkthunder, the aft part of the nacelles need to be fattened up a bit... too pointy.

As usual, outstanding work.

I always thought the ship needed more phasers. When you compareit to the number of arrays on a Sovereign, this just seems like it should have more.

She looks good. I will reserve judgment on the deflector till I see her skined.
