I always thought of it as a interchangeable pod like the Nebula which is why it has a launcher in the main body of the ship

This makes a lot of sense actually.  Wasn't the Defiant Class supposed to be one of the first ships designed solely for combat the Federation has built in a long time?  Yet the amount of Torpedo launchers the Akira Class has makes her seem like she was a warship and her registry number implies she's older than the Defiant Class which would then mean the Akira was a Federation warship long before the Defiant Class was built.  Unless of course your theory is true and the Akira actually had some kind of sensor pod instead. Considering First Contact was the Akira's first appearance and the Dominion had already been encountered at that time, (which was the reason the Defiant was pulled out of storage to begin with), then the Akira could have simply been upgraded with a Torpedo platform to increase her combat rating.

Now I'd kind of like to see what kind of sensor pod the Akira Class might have been fitted with :)

The Akira is now ingame (fixed the torpedo area as well).  :D Enjoy.

I'm now taking a 1-month summer class, so there will be even less updates from me. But once I'm done, I'll resume.

That looks really nicely done, Wiley.  I'm glad we will finally have a really nice Akira to play with.

She looks excellent.  I'm curious about your thoughts while building her.  Have any comments/critiques of the design, newfound appreciation, anything like that?

Love it Wiley, I think your best work to date. However there seems to be an issue with the nav lights

I'll make those colored nav lights smaller. I'm using the JLS Akira hardpoint.

I've always liked the Akira- it has a balanced design. Plus, re-imagining the FC Borg battle as I was building her was fun too. :D Constructing the catamarans were probably the hardest part of the design. I also had to invent a way of filling areas of blank hull with something, rather than just plain color.

As usual, I try to make the ship look as close as possible as represented in the movies/shows. Other then that, I knew the ship looked cool, and my interpretation was going to look awesome...it was just a matter of time. Now I'll be able to build ships that also have catamarans...

Just a question what is this ship scaled to?

IIRC the Akira Saucer should be as wide as the Sovs.
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

You have really done her justice Wiley. Would love to see your take on the other FC designs. I think she is going to be a fav with me playing BC and making screenshots. Again good job!

Well, the Steamrunner was in Star Trek Invasion, so that's a possibility.

I just did a size comparison to my Nemesis Sovereign, and the Akira's saucer is just as wide as the Sovereign.

USS Discovery as I recall. It was the ship that was caught in the gravitational pull of a black hole, and you had to rescue its escape pods.

Yep.  Fun times.  I remembered mainly cause I booted up Invasion when you started this pack and took a look at all the models to see what exactly you were getting in to. :P

Outstanding job Wiley

One thing though, and I realize this may not be canon but, I think the phaser arrays look too "plain" - seems like they just have a greyish flat texture and that's it. It may be because the resolution of your screen shots are not close up enough to the ship to see any details but in case the arrays are actually plain, I feel a model of this high quality should have more detail on the them.

Just my opinion.

They weren't that detailed to begin with.

If anything I think they are the same style found on the Galaxy class.

Loving it!!!  Once again I only hope I can master ship-building as well as you have!!!

I see what you're talking about.

But what I was envisioning is something like what DJ does with his phaser strips: a kind of "ribbing" that I think gives them much more of a functional look.

In any case, it's a masterful work.

Spectacular job dude!

O.O They look awesome in-game Wiley! Are you sure you didn't just steal that from ILM, and they just blamed it on a "fire"? LMAO
