Title: TMP Enterprise interior
Post by: baz1701 on May 22, 2008, 07:23:54 AM
Hi all,
I'm working in 3D max to create an interior (Bridge included) for the TMP re-fit Enterprise for another project. Only have corridors and Engine room done so far. But was wondering if it would be any use to BC. And if it is, does anybody want the MAX files to do the converstion?

I'm using the actual Studio layout to model the sets

Perhaps such a mod would have the best use in Excalibur, there are going to be some ships interiors ;) also TMP Enterprise bridge is in development already.

Could you show us some pics ?

Cool. I aggree with the Doc. I don't think it would be quite useful in BC but I can see it being of use for Excalibur. Try posting it in this section. These guys may be able to use it http://bc-central.net/forums/index.php?board=28.0 (http://bc-central.net/forums/index.php?board=28.0)

Yup, great work especially on engineering room :) It would look cool in Excalibur ;)

Hi I've moved this threat over to Excalibur Forum

I've moved your thread to graphics art as Excalibur is set post-nemesis.
I'll lock that one down and you can carry on using this thread.

Cheers.

Well it appears no body wants it so I'll let everyone be.

Just a side note it could have been used in Excalibur as one of the following: -

A, an old starfleet vessel (Such as the Hathaway was)

B, the TNG sets were the TMP sets redressed (only bridge and Engine Room built from scratch) would not take a lot convert to that era.

Just food for thought.

If I were you I wouldn't abandon this project as it looks very promising, after Excalibur is done this one could be used as a mod cuz one of the main goal of Excalibur is to make even more moddable game to us, so this will be most wanted in excalibut as an additional mod set ;)
Title: Re: TMP Enterprise interior
Post by: intrepid90 on May 22, 2008, 05:42:12 PM
its not that nobody wants it!
it looks great, but we cant use it in BC.
In which way you can use it excalibur, I dont know, maybe they dont plan making a starfleet museum or sth similar ;)

Post by: limey BSc. on May 22, 2008, 05:43:24 PM
It can very much still be used in BC, but you would only be able to walk around it. No interactions.
Title: Re: TMP Enterprise interior
Post by: ChronowerX_GT on May 22, 2008, 05:51:45 PM
Don't give up by all means. It's very promising. Why not build the Hathway interior and add more rooms and decks to it (or even make it a Galaxy interior). Then when Excal is released you can be one of the first to release a mod (and a very good one if you do it) for it.

hmm
what if brex would sit in machine room?
the camera would look against a wall. right?
so all the crew has to be on the bridge when you want to see them when you interact with them.
so, empty rooms dont make mcuh sense for me...
other question:
is it possible to add more than 1 viewscreen to a bridge???

Nope, BC only supports one viewscreen.

whos to say that this project couldnt be steered into a different direction. it could be used in excalibur as a spare set for some non-seen class of ship. a quality piece of work (and the time that went into it) like this shouldnt be put to waste just because of a pre-conception
Title: Re: TMP Enterprise interior

Rest assured this project will be finished as I'm using for fan film work.

Here is one of my earlier attempts
www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3TkU0gC_7M

As for switching the project to the Enterprise-D or TNG era I may do that after or anyone who wants the mesh is welcome to do with as they will.

The current status is:

Corridors - done
Engine room - main room and warp core done, with basic textures.
Transporter room - main room modeled

Cool stuff. Here's food for thought. I don't know what kind of stuff the Elite Force/EF2 community does, but maybe... just maybe... this could be of use there, too? I'd like to see this bridge make it into BC or Excalibur. And even if it doesn't, just hold onto it. Back it up when it's all done and save it for later. You never know, you might find a use for it elsewhere.
Title: Re: TMP Enterprise interior
Post by: baz1701 on May 28, 2008, 04:17:54 AM
Rest assured I'll be keeping hold of the model. I'm planning to use is it in a CGI Star Trek Movie.

I'm also planning to expand the set to include: -

Photon Torpedo bay
Rec-Deck
Officers Lounge
Air Lock (Spocks Walk TMP)

And any unseen sets they think would make a good addition.

Side note the Torpedo Bay from TWOK and TSFS was the Klingon Bridge from TMP so that could be redressed to create a new Klingon movie D7 bridge.

I would love to see the cargo bay from TMP, it would be huge but boy it would be worth it. Also dont know about any of you guys but id love to see this in BC, it could be a kind of ship museum mod, i would quite happily spend hours wondering around the TMP enterprise going to the rec deck and seeing the aft part of the ship from the windows or going to the VIP lounge and seeing what it should of looked like.
Anyone with me?

First yes to the botanical Garden, But next will be the hanger deck.

I will see if I can show the aft section of the ship in the Rec deck windows.

As for the pictures of the Enterprises of the past i was thinking of taking out the ringed spaceship and replaceing it with the NX-01? I know it non-canon but it would make it more authentic?

Well I enjoy reading comments so what do you guys think?

Well it could very well be a different connie or the connie at a later date.

I'm curious, are you planning on doing the whole ship? and how many polygons is this at?
Title: Re: TMP Enterprise interior
Post by: baz1701 on May 30, 2008, 08:54:08 AM
not sure how many polys it at as I'm modelling each room seperatly at the mo, but generally thay are simple shapes so no one piece with high poly count

Cant wait to see all this together, i look forward to seeing the hanger deck and cargo bay. Gorgeous work mate. I have noticed on the sovvie bridge that you can see the aft of the ship, does anyone know how this is acumplished?

If you do have this as a museum ship will you have it sat in drydock?

no worries for the questions, and thanks for all the cookies.

Not thought to much about what we'll see out the windows. And to convert it for use within the game I would have to request a help on that front as would not have a clue where to start.

So if anyone is upto the challenge of converting it for BC use then please come forward.

The folks over at Elite Force Files could do several things with this. Create an actual mission level, or an RPG level, which means you can walk around and talk to various crewmembers, activate certain consoles, etc. Elite Force II has a large potrion of the Enterprise E interior that you walk around in between missions, it's where most of the main story unfolds. This would be an extremely well-received mod, or even just a set that someone over there can convert.

yes thanks have those, The only thing that was giving me grief was the colour scheme for the lower hanger. In the film it looks olive green, but in the instructions for the polar lights Enterprise and all the kits built by top modellers has the deck being silver/grey so trying to find a happy middle ground has been a little nuts. but I'm going with silver for now.

Thanks for your support

iv got the polar lights kit and i did mine olive green, it does suit it and i think it looks ok. That shuttle bay looks magnifisent mate it looks vast and you have given it scale which is one thing that always impressed me about the film, the sheer scale of things. cant wait to see it complete mate nice one  :)

Title: Re: TMP Enterprise interior
Post by: baz1701 on June 03, 2008, 06:08:15 PM
anyone who wants to do that is free to do so. I prefer the Kirk era that is why I'm making the original (And still the best) Enterprise.

I fail to see why the Excal community are so down on the 23rd Cent ships, after all there are some still around in the 24th. Perhaps a Constitution class refit brought out of retirement to fight the Dominion.

Are we going to see another shift after J J Adams's trek is released for the new look TOS ships?

Sorry about the rant just think people forget about the original 79 and 6 movies after being spoiled on TNG, DS9, Voy and Enterprise.

Long live Kirk and the boys and girls of USS Enterprise NCC-1701, Not A, B, C, D or bloddy E

I think it's just that they are setting Excal post Nemesis. I'm sure people will be making TOS and TMP era stuff for it as soon as it's released, and this will be a perfect addition.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of TOS and TMP though. I grew up with late TNG and Voy. Well, I say grew up, I mean watched occasionally :P!

Ok back to topic.

The officers lounge is the last room I need to model from scratch unless anyone has any ideas for rooms not yet featured.

Work that still needs to be done: -

Shuttle storage and control room. Also Fantail doors need remaking (currently see through)
More greenery in Botanical Garden
Captains cabin (might copy and re-texture to make Spocks as well)
Engineering needs consoles and might see if I can add Radiation chamber
Torpedo room needs a front wall and further texturing
Sick bay need structure detail and consoles added
Airlock needs consoles and final texture details
Transporter room just needs side utility corridor adding

Corridors done
Bridge done

Even though we never saw them in the original Enterprise refit, I think some of the rooms visited on the -A would conceivably been in the 1701.

1. The officer's mess from Star Trek VI, perhaps retextured to fit the motif of the rest of the ship.

2. The observation lounge from Star Trek V, the one with the motto plaque, and the wooden ship's wheel.

3. A phaser or auxilary control room, such as we saw on the -B in Generations.

4. Use your imagination! What is the ship missing that the crew would need?

You are doing an excellent job, many accolades to you, friend!

There already is a bathroom in the captain's cabin. you can see the sonic shower in the pic, and the loo was going to be the next addition to the model.

The star trek V observation lounge is a nice idea but the TMP Enterprise showed it's own lounge in TMP. but since we only saw the back of it in TMP and in TFF the launge was at the front I'll see if the 2 rooms marry together.

I was never happy with the UDC's officers mess, it clearly the 1701-D's briefing room redressed, same with engineering.

I may use the 1701-A's junior crew cabin since this was not seen in the first 3 trek films.

Was also thinking of adding Jefferys tubes. Just concerned the model is getting big, and though still usable for my project.

Well keep the feedback coming

Ilia's quarters as with Spock's from TWOK is Kirk quarters redessed. Since that room is now complete it can be copied and customised for it crew member

Hehe it is, but didn't Captain Archer say that they recycled crap to use as energy for the ship. I can't see why they wouldn't do it in the 23rd century instead of lugging it about with them.

About the rooms, how about one of those rooms in the warp naccelles like we saw in TNG?

The buttons on the computer in the captain's cabin are monstrous... there should be a lot more, and they should be about 1/3rd the size. Additionally, there are some smoothing issues going on in the "Loo", as you call it. Otherwise, everything is looking amazing so far.

Just... Wow...

Sir, you are amazing. This is absolutely beautiful! Though, everybody says we -can't- use it for BC, this is not entirely true. The fate of Immersion for BC is still in the air, and if it's decided that the portion completed IS released to us for BC and not just Excal, I can't think of a better first addition than this. Right era, and very fitting that the origins of Trek would be the origins of Immersions expansion.

I do agree that many seem to prefer the newer series, I for one enjoy them all, each has their own aspects. The original and the movies treated spacefaring more like cowboys, in a sense (Heck, when they find Scotty, he tells the same story). But the newer series represent a different era in themselves, and I think this was kind of purposeful.

Either way, your work is utterly amazing, and if I were to say exactly how much I love this, I'd be in big trouble with the mods.  :funny I envy your ability, and hope that someday I'll be able to do something just as great! Keep it up!

After I have finished the shuttle I will add the control room to the shuttle bay and then that will be it.

I'll put the finishing touches to the rest of the models thus far and get it ready for release.

Any body who wishes the model to mod would they start to make themseleves known so we can sort out how to transfer the models.

I'm flattered that a few people would like to see this in Excal, but as I keep getting reminded Excal is post Nemesis only!!!! Lol feel that this is a little anal but hey it their game. Not sure I want them to use it now, after such a warm reception (joke). But Anyway  I thank you all who have commented (even the picky ones).

Not sure what my next project should be yet, might do a Nemesis era interior lol. Or just a bridge.

Of course, it would be very nice to see it in a mod for BC, but somehow i doubt, that it will be possible to leave the bridge in BC within the next time.

As for nemesis era interiors, do the whole interior of something that's your own design. I'd love to see what kind of ORIGINAL works you can come up with. :]

Excalibur will likely have modding capabilities, as it's being developed by people in this community. The game itself is set in the Post-nemesis era, thus, the stock bridges, interiors, ships, etc, are all post-Nemesis... why have TMP stuff when it's completely wrong for the storyline? Much like Bridge commander, as I already said, it'll likely be open to modders, and thus content of all eras will likely be developed. Just because it's not of immediate use doesn't mean it won't make an interesting contribution in the future. Just hang onto it, refine and improve upon it over time, texture it, etc... and just keep improving on it until Excalibur comes out and you have a better idea of what the game is all about and what it could handle. Then make your decision.

Fantastic mod! I have a doubt: BC actually hasn't a mod to go through the decks, Walk FX make you able to walk on a carpet but I don't think that with Walk FX you can take the turbolift and go to the deck 12... So You have to build all the rooms on a single deck or you could use the "free float" version of Walk FX. What do you think?

Title: Re: TMP Enterprise interior

Um, let's see, Poser, and Max (or some other renderer) works in so called "offline" mode to do it's things. So no realtime stuff.

How long did it take to render those images? More than a second?
In that case, don't even think about it, by the time you have renderd it, and pressed PrintScreen, you will be way later than that moment. If the PrintScreen button even reacts.

And that's even considering BC won't commit suicide just by loading it. ;)
Title: Re: TMP Enterprise interior
Post by: baz1701 on June 25, 2008, 05:56:45 AM
Agreed the render time for the figures is a few seconds for basic rendering (over a minute in firefly). They could be stripped down alittle but not by much.

As for the shuttle I started I'm not happy with so may drop it from the project as USS Prime is making one also.

I'm planning to release the Bridge either today or tomorrow to anyone who wants it.
where is the best place to upload these models for easy access, I was going to list them free on turbosquid.

3D max should open 3DS as I created it in 3D Max. You have to import the file rather than open. As for the max file some texture redirection maybe required but all the textures were included with the max download

So when you load the max file it states missing textures if you browse to for where you put the textures they should then load up. If they don't then unfortunatly you will have to reassign them!!!

Title: Re: TMP Enterprise interior

Here's a question related to the sets: How/From where does the torpedo get loaded onto the launcher? If there are magazines, I'd like to see them.

And the same is certainly true of the Sovereign class- I don't think I've ever seen any close up views of the torpedo systems, inside or out.

Post by: baz1701 on July 09, 2008, 03:57:43 AM
That is the only part mising from the torp set. As seen in TWOK the torp is lowered on to the skid at the start of the track and then moved in to the loading hatch at the far end. Listerning to Nick Myers on the commentry it was not a pratical set but a dramatic one.
Title: Re: TMP Enterprise interior
Post by: Weasel on July 09, 2008, 04:07:02 AM
Well, actually that would be quite practical, if-

1. multiple rounds could be loaded on to the launch rails at a time, thereby increasing the launchers rate of fire, and/or-

2. various types of devices could be launched through this system, allowing mixed loadouts to be utilized to increase tactical flexibilty.

Why load them as one bridge? Couldn't they be loaded as needed ... you go from one room to another in the same manner as transporting from one bridge to another? Only, instead of being "transported" from the bridge, couldn't you step into the turbolift? Once there, you transition to a different bridge ... except that every room is defined as a " bridge"?

And ... about TOS ships v.s. TNG universe: where does it say that a mothball fleet doesn't exist? Why can't civilians or merchant marines buy up old, mothballed Starfleet vessels?

That's basically one of the many, many things Immersion was going to do, the thing is, on it's own, BC doesn't seem to have any triggers on the bridge to allow this.

I believe you could not simply buy an old starfleet ship, in the same way you can't just buy an old aircraft carrier. (Plus, it takes quite alot of manpower to operate an old craft like, say, a Constitution, or dare I say, Excelsior.)

We did see loads of 23 cent era ships in the battle scenes in DS9 so plenty of these ships still in the fleet. Some one could go to town with the LCARS textures on my models to make them more 24th Cent looking

Post by: CptBenSisko on July 15, 2008, 08:41:14 PM
Your sets are unbelievable..and astounding..but there is one mistake made with the Torpedo room...there is only one of them not two. In Star Trek II when the travel pod docks "portside torpedo bay" kirk walks right out of the airlock and into the room.  he then meets with Scotty and then procedes to the engine room for his inspection. Preparing for the battle in the Mutara Nebula, the Enterprise goes to full battle stations and the Photon Torpedo preload launch sequence is initiated so that the ship can simply fire her torpedos rapidly. The torpedo comes down from storage, travels down the ramp to the loading door, where it is then loaded to one of the two openings..as the Connie of course has two of them. the pre launch area can hold up to four torpedos for simaltaneous firing. I can see how this could be confusing because at the end of TWOK when the Enterprise fires spocks body into space he shoots from the portside tube. but he could just have easily fired from the starboard tube. There is an airlock on both sides of the torpedo bay. As referenced from the floor plans..

This picture shows the prelaunch sequence. Notice the hall way on each side that would lead to the airlocks

Hi, Normaly I'd agree with you but after pulling the deck plans for reference I discovered there are 2 bays in the torp room. Also one of the bloopers for TWOK has the bay 1 and 2 signs replaced for Bays 3 and 4!!!

At the moment this project is on hiatus, but I will revisit it at some point. All the original models featured are released.

As I said on my Sov thread I need to see a use for these models as I don't have time to do them for fun. If some can show me a use and are developing them for something then I'll happily model what they want.

sweetness, i hope if this one works out you might think of doing the reliant bridge too. They arent all that much different, just have to move some stuff around a little bit. I have a modified avenger doc mccoy did for me that i play with, so ive always hoped for an old style bridge.

I personally cant wait to see how it all turns out
Title: Re: TMP Enterprise interior
Post by: baz1701 on January 10, 2009, 05:45:16 PM
if it works it can be "redressed" to form any of these bridges: -
TMP - Enterprise
TWOK - Relient
TSFS - Enterprise or Grissom
TVH - Enterprise-A

TNG - Enterprise-C, Enterprise-D battle bridge, Stargazer.

So as you can see this set got arround.

Last night I exported to nifskope and the model held up at least 80%.

So the question is does a bridge mesh have to be attached together to maintain odject position?

Also why do I get arrow type shapes appear after I convert to 3ds?

Still have to convert the textures to glow maps so they did not export either.

I take it you're exporting from something other than Max 3? If so, yes, as far as I know, everything needs to be a solid mesh to export correctly.

What do you mean by arrows? Can you get a pic?

Have you tried opening it with NifSkope, and comparing it to a working bridge? Just to see if it follows a (slightly) similar structure.

Also, have you tried removing all the references to locations and perhaps animations from the script?

Yeah, I said "use them as a template" in the PM :P. Don't copy them, as the EntA scripts were designed purely for that bridge.

If it shows up in the Model Properties Editor, it will probably work ingame with a fully functional script. You might try that, it's in the Bridge Commander SDK.

ok found it

I fI try loading the nif without a script (clicking no when prompted) nothing happens

If I say yes to the script and choose the enterprise A script (having edited the file name to match nif) the editor crashes like the game.

You should load a properties file in MPE for the script, not the bridge script itself. For example dbridgeproperties and not galaxybridge

The bridge should display even if you don't load a script, if the .nif file is working. I use MPE all the time for looking at bridge textures without going ingame.

I exported from Max as a 3DS. Imported into Nifskope, and straigtened everything up that shifted and repointed the textures.

I then saved it as a NIF. Is there a step I'm missing in the conversion?

I've uploaded my Nif file here, http://files.filefront.com/13266075 If anyone wants to review it and point out whats wrong with it that would be grand.

it looks alright. I'd work on optimizing the chairs though. Particularly, I mean their flat surfaces. There's a *ton* of polies that can be gotten rid of. so long as you keep the edges nice and smooth with them as you have, i think they'd still look rather nice. there's a few issues here and there and one or two things i'd consider revising a little, but it doesn't look too bad. good work so far. :] keep on chugging along, dude.

I got some advise from Mark. He said that Nifskope does not work for bridges and you need to export via the official SDK exporter from Max 3.

I'm not sure I still have the CD for that as I've upgraded to Max 9.

Anyone with MAX 3 willing to convert to NIF for me?

if it works it can be "redressed" to form any of these bridges: -
TMP - Enterprise
TWOK - Relient
TSFS - Enterprise or Grissom
TVH - Enterprise-A

TNG - Enterprise-C, Enterprise-D battle bridge, Stargazer.

So as you can see this set got arround.
It would be nice to see the Enterprise A Bridge from Star Trek The Voyage Home as that is quiet a unique Bridge and would make a great addition to Bridge Commander of course if it works. :) But Nice work on your bridge, one quick question are your building your main model there to be a replica of the Enterprise Bridge in The Motion Picture or Wrath of Khan?

I think i know what that object that appeared is, it may be a root bone used for the scene, and exporing it as a nif from max 9 is never a good idea, as BC requires the bridge to be exported through 3ds Max 3.

also it generally isnt a good idea to res a thread Boulder if there isnt any relevant information or contribution to the topic, just bear that in mind for the future ok?

I suppose I could make ST4 displays in near future but I'll wait until I have more free time...
