Hi all, it's been a long road time!
I keep feeling the urge to get into bridge commander again after many years but things seem to have moved a long way since I was last in the loop and I am totally lost!

I’m hoping you guys might be able to answer some questions and help me get back up to speed… Plus help me decide between trying to resurrect my old custom install or start fresh with this newfangled ‘Remastered’ mod….

If you're old timer user then consider Remastered like having a bare bones install without any extra things. If I were you I'd use the custom install or start with KM based install.

GOG

I see Bridge Commander is now available from GOG, is this a legit disc-less version now? If so, is GOG the only place to get it?

My old custom install was built on the original CDrom version. I had the whole directory copied so that I could just copy the whole thing back over a fresh install from the disc. I’m assuming this wouldn’t work with a disc-less version?

Would I be able to just use the disc-less .exe file in my custom install or would it be more complicated to use my custom with it?

It's legit of course though technically I believe GOG applied the no-cd patch which is kinda hilarious in its own way. Other than that the games are the same just stock game + 1.1 patch + nocd patch inbuilt.

Remastered

Is ‘Remastered’ considered to be the best place to start with a new BC now?

In my build, I liked having specific ship ID’s for a Class (I think it was the skinning tool?). Does Remastered have this or will, for example, every instance of a Sov be the USS Sovereign or Ent-E?

Do the Dauntless and Sovereign have the correct registries in the single player?

Does Remastered require specific mod versions?

Think I covered that above.

Where best to download mods now

I'm back, I've been feeling all nostalgic and see Tiber MKII is still hosted, my other old meshes are long gone, I stopped when my mom got cancer, have popped back in from time to time but I've been really having a hankering to fire up an old XP system with gmax and make stuff again, I don't think I've touched it since 2011ish

Glad to see your back in the Community.

Darkthunder is right, head on over to our BCC Discord- it's more active.. A lot of advances have been made since 2011. New Bridges, Bots, even game dynamics.

yes I did, im going to try to remember, i intended to come back apparently in 2013, but don't remember what happened, but im all nostalgic now, also Tiber MKII wasn't much to look at but it was mine lol.

She holds up rather well, and is a nice early-TOS/Pre-TOS era design. :-)

yes I did, im going to try to remember, i intended to come back apparently in 2013, but don't remember what happened, but im all nostalgic now, also Tiber MKII wasn't much to look at but it was mine lol.

She is simple at a glance, but still fun to play and use!

Also, you have the talent n resources to make models, which is a valuable comoddity for BC Modding.  I am a very relative newcomer to BC and am attemptiny to learn the art of Virtual Machines so I can get Max running in some fashion to do some conversions/esports on several models I have permissions on (Arolm and Nebula for examples).

I would recommend the BCC Discord server (linked above I thibk?) as a good place to get info and see some new mods (Zambie Zan returned to modding recently, and a new Mega Mod in BC Maelstrom Mod is in development)
