that sounds about right.  I think it may also be the level of detail on the mesh overall isn't carried consistently into the pylons.  It may be that they just look a little plain, and the textures would take care of that.

Thanks guys I'll give these ideas a go after work today. :] Note that the pylons are nowhere near complete at the moment. I really gotta clean them up a bit and mold them in with the secondary hull better.

I've also decided on a name for one of the Mithra Class ships... aside from the NX Mithra, she'll be one of the oldest varients and, I'm thinking, sister to the Mithra herself. Aeria Gloris is her name, translating from Latin meaning "Heavenly Glory" I believe. Somehow the name's been stuck in my head for months... being a Ghost In The Shell: SAC fan I guess that shouldn't shock me.

I have a really cool backstory for the Mithra and Aeria Gloris that I'm gonna type up soon. I think you'll all enjoy it, even if only the basic principle. :]

Thanks everyone!

So I'm kinda sick of playing with the pylons so I'm going to leave them alone for now and focus on the upper saucer. Here I've added a bit of the forward intakes I sketched earlier. Whatcha think? :]

Tbh I think you're obsessively trying to add detail where no (modeled) detail is necessary. I think it looked fine without those intakes.

I'm sorry, but making intakes like those with TEXTURES simply isn't possible if I want it to look any measure of decent.

btw, I happen to LIKE BMWs.  :arms:

Can ya give us a shot a bit further away from the ship so we can see the vents in context with the rest of the ship?  Also, what are they for?

They're intakes... you know, for taking in... stuff... Anything, really. Need some planetary gassy crap for fuel and don't wanna garble up the nacelles? No problem! Wanna dive underwater to gather a rare liquid mineral? No sweat! Wanna be more pimpin' than the rest of starfleet's rag-tag, wanna-be, crap brass dudes? Go for it!

Here's your freakin' pics. xD

edit: I'm really starting to hate this stupid frakin' saucer. x_x

Okay, maybe you should just try to create less eye-catching intakes. The current ones somehow make it look less streamlined (even though they're rounded, etc). Maybe you should place them below the saucer similar to the Sovereign torpedo launcher or these modules the Stargazer has:

Maybe you can also keep them where they are, but just make them a bit blocky and flatter. Like those lights (or whatever that is) on the Prometheus. You know what I mean? If not I'll post a pic trying to show what I mean.

Anyway, that's just my opinion, if you like it this way, I would keep it as it is.

Getting rid of them means rebuilding an entire new saucer as I totally forgot to save a separate copy before-hand. xD Lol. Epic fail on my part.

S.... I'd try changing them w/o redoing the saucer then...so keep them where they are and simply try a more integrated design. Maybe something less rounded and more simple than the current ones. Eg.: like the frontlights of this Ferrari (to get back to the cars again  8)) So basically it's a simple hatch that's always open and exposes the intakes.

Lol...I'm trying to give you hints, but I probably would have even got close to what you've achieved...

Actually, it looks like the front part of the hood off of a Pontiac Firehawk (WS-6 variant)

So the ship's a really really big flying car. I get the picture already lol. Idk what I'm gonna do with the intakes yet but they *WILL* be staying. Just a matter of tweaking to make them fit in better. Also keep in mind they look out of place atm as the rest of the details haven't been modeled in yet to mold it all together right. Mithra's supposed to be sleek, yes, but also bulky; she's a freaking battleship after all. :]

Anywho, update later if i get the time.

Peace,
-Aeries

This is primarily my CGI rendition of the Mithra, Revision 11. This one's here to stay, and will be ported to BC upon completion. These images are a few days old, as I've modeled most of the windows and hull armor already. Even with these extra details, the ship still stands at merely 50k, which for a CGI-level model, I must say is quite low.

I have not entirely decided what the BC release will encorporate, but with some optimization, it may include all the details. Just gotta wait and see what I can come up with to optimize the model further.
