your mithra looks great, but i think and i may not be the only 1 that thinks this but some of that armoured look could have been achieved with some clever texturing, but still it does look mean  :D

Thanks, everyone! :D

This is my second, and last, update for the night. It's hella late, and i don't remember the last time I went to bed at this hour. X_X I've been working on the Mithra for at least 16 hours straight. And my brain needs a rest.

I've added more armor to better integrate the rest of the armor components... it's starting to look almost like Voyager's ablative armor in the last episode. lol. Mainly, there's a LOT of armor on the nacelle pylons now, and of primary note is the armor on the top portion of the saucer. I added a bit more on the secondary hull, too, since I figured I could get away with it. ;)

Unfortunately the poly count has gone up a bit once more, too, hitting 19.8k after optimizing. (it WAS 20.3k.) I'm trying to avoid hitting the 20k mark, though there are still a couple areas that need a little something... namely, the underside of the primary impulse engines need something to "cheer up" that dull, lifeless area. I'll think of something. :)

So here are a few more pics! My brain needs a rest, it's POUNDING, and who knows? Maybe I'll have some ingenius idea(s) when I wake up. :D

Edit: yeah, the armoring may be a bit much, but with Wiley's 'clever texturing', and a fancy ol' model in COMBINATION? :P I think it'll be well worth it in the long run.

thanks, guys!

very nice Aeries, this is far away from the first pic of the mythra you have posted :D!

I like the plating, but after my fancy it's a bit too much.

Anyway you have done an awsome job and I can't wait with what wiley and you will
do with the textures :D

At least have another cookie from me!

Wow, thank you guys so much! :) I had no idea people would like this as she is... I totally look forward to texturing this.

Wow, that is a lot of plating. :D  This could be anyone's ship.

Wooowwww, Wiley! I totally LOVE that preview of the Textures! O_O Mind if I steals it for my sig? Lol. I just hope the armor plating and copious amounts of detail won't be a problem texture-wise, particularly the mapping...

Anywho, with any luck I'll have the model (at least, the NX variant) done tonight. Please keep in mind that this is only ONE variant... I still have to make the science and weapons pod variants... I actually have some cool ideas for those.  8)

Thanks for all the cookies, guys! I'm certain Wiley's textures will make this into one heck of a beast. Ahh, I can smell Lint's Kvort's burning into oblivion already...

Lol, kidding. Thanks again, guys.

I've not posted on this thread before as to be honest I didn't really like your ship.

However she is now a thing of beauty and I'm head over heels in love!

I'm going to buy a cookie factory just for you guys and Aeries can have the first batch!

Well done mate!

Just a lil Tip from another Modeler, watch youre smoothing groups. i can spot a few areas where you missed to smooth areas, mostly the nacelles backarea.

Lol, yeah I noticed that. You should see the interrior of the deflector area. Wooooo boy, is it a tad messy. lol.

I'm still a novice with Max, so smoothing "groups" and the sort are somewhat of a mystery to me. ;)

Wow....she looks great but that polycount sounds monstrous.  I agree with some in that alot of the armor could be done with textures rather than modelled on details.  Remember, you don't always have to model every detail.  Still, you get a cookie for such a beautiful ship.  :D

Aeries, if the poly count isn't too stressful for BC, I make a motion to keep the modeled detail in. It makes the ship look vicious.

The details are staying... it's far more work to get rid of them at this point than it is to impliment them, and the backup I made of the Mithra prior to the armor is too outdated to do much with at this point in the game. Additionally, I personally think the added details are a compliment. Also consider that the Century's poly count is actually higher, so far as I know.

I do agree that the poly count is a tad high, though. In the past couple hours, it has in fact increased by 1 or 2k. I will be optimizing the mesh, somehow, to bring it back down to 18/19k. It's just a matter of how; the optimize tool actually made the secondary hull mesh into a nightmare. So I have to figure that bit out, still. Nevertheless, the model will *not* surpass 21.5k.  Such is my goal...

Thanks.
~Aeries.

Edit:
Quote
As promised, I got the poly count back down to 18k (18,793 to be exact). And I didn't even touch the armor plating! in fact, I even added some to complete the saucer.

It'll go up a tiny bit as I armor the warp nacelles, but otherwise I'm confident it'll stay below 20k. :D *beams proudly*

I know, I know, some of you think the armor isn't needed, but... still. I think this is totally different than what we'd normally see in BC. And for my very first 3d model, game mod, and team development project, I really feel the need to do something different, and make a statement. :) It's just who I am.

Once the nacelles are completed and I've thrown in a couple more little details to balance her out, I'll post a couple more pics of the (hopefully!) completed model. Then, it's off to figuring out why NIF tools doesn't love me. :/

Meanwhile, wiley's gotten hard at work on an NX Mithra MSD, similar to that of the Enterprise F, which will also be my signature when it's done. I'll post it when he gets back to me. :)

From the looks of it, this'll be one of the most detailed models in BC with a poly count this low. Needless to say, I'm proud of myself. My only hope is that you all enjoy this as much as I have enjoyed making it. :)

Pics will be uploaded soon.

Cheers,
~Aeries.

The model is FINALLY complete!

Here she is, folks! The fully modeled, armored, federation starship Mithra. She's one hell of a mean machine with a nasty bite! With a total of 14 torpedo bays, eight phaser arrays, and forward pulse phaser batteries, she's a force to be reckoned with! She's got heavy ablative armor plating all over the hull, and specially designed warp nacelles for navigating even the trickiest of nebulae, while she stalks her prey, readies a spectacular ambush or hunts down well-hidden outposts. She's only slightly smaller than the Century Class, standing at nineteen decks high. She has two large primary impulse engines, and four secondary. This brute could easily tear through enemy lines in a single, swift, well-planned assault, warping away afterwords and leaving nothing behind but ashes...

Ladies and gentlemen, I now present to you the completed USS-Mithra, Mithra Class, NX-81940. The first of her class.

Wiley, it's texture time.   8) Oh yeeeaaahhh....
